DESIGN

At first glance, the ASUS ROG Phone II design and feel of the device are completely different from the other smartphone available in the market. The ROG Phone II is one of the best-looking devices packaged with RGB ROG logo on the back. The smartphone rear body is made from plastic with an ergonomic design and desperate heat from the device. The body is a two-piece design giving it a great gaming appeal. The fingerprint sensor is beneath the screen and there is a front-firing stereo speaker for better stereo effect. To keep it cool while gaming, the device uses an all-new air convection cooling system. The cooling system is designed in a way that it dissipates heat effectively across its design without compromising on performance.

PERFORMANCE

ASUS ROG Phone II didn’t disappoint in the specs, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset. Using Snapdragon 855+ in combination with 8GB RAM does offer an advantage over gaming and multitasking. The ROG Phone II also packs 128GB of internal storage to perform well through intensive games. The device was able to handle all of the tasks that you throw at it with ease. Whether that’s browsing the web, multitasking or playing games on the ROG Phone II, it does it all rather well. The battery backup is really good, thanks to the large 6000mAh battery. With moderate gaming, the ROG Phone II took 15 hours to reach 20% from 100%.

On to the less exciting aspects of the ROG Phone II. The device shares a 48-megapixel(f/2.0) along with 13-megapixel wide-angle lens on the rear camera with no OIS. Instead, it supports EIS which does offer video stabilization using software tricks. The camera is capable of capturing some decent shots without blowing out light in the pictures. The front camera takes an amazing shot in daylight but struggles a little in the low-light environment. That being said, it’s not a bad overall shooter and hey, it is a gaming phone.

GAMING

In my gaming experience with the phone, my longest session lasted roughly two hours playing PubG. There was no slowdowns and crashes, but overheating still existed during processing-intensive tasks. There is a dedicated GameBoost mode which unleashes extra processing power to provide higher frame rates & improved graphics capabilities. I played Asphalt 9, Real Racing 3 at ultra setting and the device was able to handle them all with ease! Switch between these games was easy due to the enormous 8GB RAM.

VERDICT

There’s no doubt that the ASUS ROG Phone II is a best gaming smartphone in the market. If you’re looking for a device that handles gaming and media along with gaming aesthetics, then the ROG Phone II should be the choice. For anyone less serious about gaming and more about everyday use, you should stick with Android but look elsewhere.
