The Honda Activa is undoubtedly one of the most selling scooters in the Indian market. This fact is supported by the fact that since 2 decades it has been selling. The buyers are from different age groups and different backgrounds but the Activa impressed them all. As the 6th generation of the Activa has hit the markets, it is time to look deeper into the refreshed Activa 6G.

Design and Appearance

The updated Activa 6G comes very near to the Activa 125 in terms of design. But look closely and you will see some real changes. The headlight is now LED but you do not get it on the Standard variant of the scooter which still gets a halogen headlamp. What has changed is the front suspension in the form of a telescopic pair. Honda did really take a long time to update the front suspension but it is better late than never. The front wheel is now a 12-inch which is expected to make the handling better.

The overall silhouette of the Activa is close to its predecessors but the changes incorporated suite well to its updated look. The tail section is also slightly wider, bringing it in line with the Activa 125. Coming to the instrument cluster which is simple to read but does not feature a digital screen. Nonetheless, the Activa 6G is still attractive to look at and will not fail to impress its prospective buyers as well.

Moving on, the new Honda Activa 6G is now longer by 72mm while its width has gone down by 13mm. The height of the scooter is reduced by 2mm while, the wheelbase has increased by 22mm and the ground clearance increases by 18mm. The weight of the Activa 6G is down by 2 kg standing at 107 kg while the fuel tank capacity remains the same as before at 5.3-litre. The under-seat storage remains unchanged at 18-litre. There are no USB charging ports on offer with the 6G.

Now coming to the details, for the first time, Honda has offered an engine kill switch with the 6th generation Activa. The starter motor has been ditched in favour of an ACG starter which silently starts the Activa without any noise. In fact, a couple of time I was confused if the engine was actually running or not. Gone are the days when the Activa rider has to get down from the seat top access the fuel-filler cap. Honda has designed a new external fuel-filler which can be opened by the malfunction switch located near the ignition switch. The same goes for the under-seat storage which again opens with the same switch.

Engine and Performance

The heart of the matter is the same 110cc engine which is now BS6 compliant. The power and torque figures are 7.79 PS at 8000 RPM and 8.79 Nm at 5250 RPM. While the power figures have slightly gone down with the BS6 transition, the difference will be unnoticeable. The fuel in the 110cc engine is fed by an injector and the fuel-injection has made the Activa livelier than before. Push it hard enough and you will see how smooth the engine is even when it is close to 80km/hr. Honda is claiming an overall 10% increase in the overall efficiency but that is something to be left out for a real-world test.

Ride Quality and Handling

Ride quality on the Honda Activa 6G is brilliant, thanks to the bigger front wheel and telescopic suspension setup. Even while riding it at speeds close to 80km/hr, the 6G felt stable and planted on the road. The overall comfort level has massively increased and riding it in tight city streets as well as the highways is a breeze. Braking duties on the Activa 6G is the same 130mm drum brakes at both front and rear while CBS offering makes it safer in case of panic braking situation.

If you plan to buy a scooter, the Activa will never go unnoticed. The BS6 is Rs. 8,000/- dearer than its 5G predecessor and starts at Rs. 63,912 (ex-showroom, Delhi). With new changes, the Activa 6G is much better to ride and handle. Better comfort and new features make it a very good all-rounder package for the masses.
