Shaping the World Through Different Lenses

Life is one big exploration, and we all explore the unknown and try to discover our purpose in life. Only a few get it, the rest go through it as a ritual going through its five main phases of birth | infancy | childhood | adulthood and dying. To quote Erikson’s model of human development, which includes:

Stage 1 – Infancy, trust versus mistrust;
Stage 2 – Toddlerhood, autonomy versus shame and doubt;
Stage 3 – Preschool years, initiative versus guilt;
Stage 4 – Early school years, industry versus inferiority;
Stage 5 – Adolescence and Identity

If explored well, life has so much to offer, to start with 195 countries in the world, give or take a few. I consider myself quite well travelled but in the past two decades of my international exploration, I haven’t been able to visit more than 44 countries, some visited multiple times. Truthfully, 100 is the number of countries you should target in one lifetime to explore. More than that is optional and not important. Exploration just doesn’t start with countries, but within yourself and around to achieve the destination that you truly should reach in one lifetime.

This issue is all about the Travel Industry. Furthermore, we explore the evolving landscape of travel and lifestyle in India, shedding light on how social media influencers are reshaping these realms with their digital presence and unique perspectives. From the best cameras for travel enthusiasts to a special feature in honour of International Women’s Month, celebrating the achievements of women entrepreneurs such as Starts Up, funded by Vinita Singh & Namita Thapar, this issue is brimming with inspiring stories and insightful content.

In an exclusive collaboration with Audi, we have dropped a series of five episodes titled “Cars With Stars,” featuring well-known stars from the Hindi film industry competing in an obstacle race, drifting the Audi Q8 e-tron and also going on a drag race all-timed on a leaderboard. We are streaming now on YouTube/TopGear Mag India. The world of tech is on a forever quest of exploration, and with the Mobile World Congress, we saw new shapes of sliding smartphones and transparent laptops. Since this edition focuses on travel and exploration, the special mention for our versatile cover star, Mrunal Thakur, embodies the spirit of adventure and wanderlust, having done movies both in Hindi & South film industry as well and making a journey to stardom on her own.

The Year Began With A Bang Of Technological Influx

This year, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series to the Oneplus 12 series and more phones with numerics attached to them bring some amazing hardware and software solutions to the smartphone mix

The tech mecca Consumer Electronic Show was an experience with thousands of innovative ideas across the show floor. We covered some fantastic content, including some mind-boggling new concepts and thousands of steps alongside Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, along with Kaushal Neverkar, President of Reliance Digital. The interview is worth piling a few brain cells. A surprisingly good amount of launches at the start of the year has my team busy switching platforms and smartphones. This year, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series to the Oneplus 12 series and more phones with numerics attached to them bring some amazing hardware and software solutions to the smartphone mix. Do you know how big Alphabet is? It is much larger than Google’s parent company. We look at some promises that failed with startups and also some promising aspects in consumer technology of the year ahead.

I also had the chance to visit Sphere in Las Vegas, which is a marvel in itself. Watching those screens everywhere on that high resolution will just mesmerise you. The 18,600-seat auditorium is a phenomenon in itself for its immersive video and audio capabilities, which include a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and 4D physical effects. The venue’s exterior also features 580,000 sq ft (54,000 m2) of LED displays. And now hold your breath; the arena costs US$2.3 billion, making it by far the most expensive entertainment venue built in Las Vegas or globally. Some moments are better experienced in person than on paper. What does look good in print is Arjun Kapoor posing in his natural element, teaming up as one with the Predator series from Acer. The outcome is almost lethal when style and gaming predators assemble as one. Drool and read at your risk.

The automotive industry has also marked 2024 as the year of introducing a new set of wheels with the fourth avatar of the Creta, one of the bestsellers in Indian markets, to Rolls Royce introducing Spectre in India, an electric luxury coupe, to McLaren 750S bringing madness of 750PS in a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive car. Physics limits us to pages else; we would be releasing books of some fantastic technology and automotive content each month, but physics and reality of things get interesting with Arjun Kapoor, an interesting conversation and insight into his world. This month is packed to the gills with technology, lifestyle and automotive content. My team and I are excited to witness the year ahead, while this is simply the start

Tech Can Change Anything, Humans Included

Only a few companies that started 100+ years ago and still exist, survive and thrive today

Another year has been struck off, and the year ending with 23 will not come back in our lifetime; 2023 is gone, and for 2123, 99.99% of those reading this will not be able to see the calendar change. Maybe bio hacks and medical tech can prolong us, but there will surely be your AI avatar, with voice, body and clone fitted into a human-robot or some online cloud for your family to live with. It is possible to have a robot with the voice of your loved ones and play soccer or chess with them, with emotional intelligence planted to make them talk and behave like they were when they were gone. Tech can change anything, humans included. How many companies have actually survived for 100 years? And 98% of the existing companies have yet to plan to survive and grow for 100 years. If you look back, only a few companies that started 100+ years ago and still exist, survive and thrive today. For example, Volkswagen is just 83 years old, Nissan is 90+ years old, and Tesla is less than half as old as Elon Musk.

We ended the year on a high with the 10th Edition of Reliance Digital presents Exhibit Tech Awards driven by Skoda, celebrating the best of tech and eager in anticipation for 2024 to begin on a high. The jury for the same included the best of technology experts as our panel with 100M+ smart followers of tech on social media combined. Congratulations to all the winning brands and products. Every new year for Exhibit starts in Las Vegas for the last 15 years with CES – Consumer Electronics Show, the mecca of tech conventions, and we will be on the ground in January to cover the year looking forward and setting the tone for the shape of tech to come. Times have been moving fast, and everyone gets a bit philosophical at the end of December and starts looking at life and the year gone by. It’s at this time that most of us make bold promises, which are called New Year’s resolutions, which often get forgotten as January sets in; it’s also at this time when people convert monks and get spiritual. In the end, like every year, life will ultimately come to an end, but the promise of a new year and a new beginning is a more prominent force to continue our quest for whatever we want to achieve in this one life we have.

Until you find that goal, keep doing soul searching, do not take life seriously, and enjoy every moment because tomorrow is not sure, but today is. Happy 2024!

Chin up and take responsibility

Our cover is graced by the indefatigable P.V. Sindhu, an emblem of resilience and excellence in the realm of badminton.

It’s the festive month of the year but with AQI levels so high, bursting crackers will look like declaring war against humanity. The Air, which is still somewhat breathable, will not remain so if we don’t do our bit to arrest global warming; the superpower up there has been warning us with floods and earthquakes every now and then in some parts of the world, so we chin up and take responsibility. Mars is still inhospitable, if we collectively screw up mother earth then we’ll have nowhere to go! Even the masterstrokes of Ace P.V. Sindhu will not be able to get the shuttercock to move freely if the quality of air remains like this. Switching gears in the Volvo XC60, whose safety feature in its class remains a benchmark as we celebrate the spirit of triumph, innovation, and the allure of the past. Our cover is graced by the indefatigable P.V. Sindhu, an emblem of resilience and excellence in the realm of badminton. Her journey symbolises the power of determination, making her an inspiration for millions. Her simplicity and infectious smile can take the opponent on the court down smilingly. She is currently in rehab and was not able to stand for long hours and actually limp, but professional she was, and since the shoot was planned in Hyderabad with every other piece of logistics arranged, all crew tickets booked, she continued the shoot and showed up, just like a true sport.

Foldable devices have been making a lot of news, and we got three of the most premium foldable devices and dissected the OnePlus Open, the Galaxy Z Fold5, and the Google Pixel Fold. These titans clash in a battle of innovation and functionality, and all of them have something to offer. OnePlus Open looks more sorted at its price point. The question actually remains: why do we need a foldable device in the first place? You can’t use the screen to watch videos in totality, typing speed is not faster than a regular phone. The one great use case is the multi-screen layout and for reading magazines or any document, the extra screen real estate. Apart from that it’s rather a cumbersome process to live with a foldable device in a day-to-day life. For example, if you want to go biking or running, you will find it not all that comfortable.

Our retrospective on the rise and fall of ‘80s/‘90s tech giants is a voyage through the annals of technological history. Witness the ascension and eventual descent of the once-revered companies that paved the way for the digital age we inhabit today. In our ‘How Big Is’, we playfully dig at the Lego Group. Have you ever pondered on the magnitude of The Lego Group? Get ready to be astounded as we unfurl the colossal scale and global impact of this iconic brand, showcasing its journey from a humble start to a global phenomenon.

Lastly, don’t miss our tribute to the Golden Era of Indian Rock Music in the ‘80s and ‘90s. “Rising Decibels” amplifies the nostalgia, celebrating the bands and anthems that defined an era and left an indelible mark on Indian music history. Lastly, we went on a drive with 60 Lamborghinis’ through the desert towns of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur right up to the Indo-Pak border and learnt a very important thing- the side of the Pakistan border has no fencing, only the Indian side has double barbed wire fencing, perhaps they don’t need one!!

Techy October & Spooky Halloween

It’s the “Techy October”, we commemorate Google’s remarkable journey of 25 years and explore the creative realm of Google Doodles.

After a lull, there is a storm, but at Exhibit, we have storm after storm. Google, the search engine that changed the world, celebrates a quarter-century of existence. We take you on a journey through its history, innovations, and charming Doodles, which have added joy to our digital lives since 1998. Adobe has become a giant in the tech world, and we deep dive into its impact on various industries. From Photoshop to Acrobat, Adobe’s suite of creative software has revolutionized design, publishing, and more, and every content creator swears by it. With the smartwatch market booming, our buying guide provides insights and recommendations to help you make an informed decision – from fitness tracking to style, we’ve got you covered.

October, known for its crisp autumn air and eerie ambience, is synonymous with Halloween, a time when we embrace the thrilling chill of the supernatural. This edition of “Spooky October” is dedicated to all the horror aficionados, as we’ve meticulously curated a list of the best spooky movies to watch. The Series of smartphone phone launches had been at its peak, with the iPhone 15 lineup taking centre stage, followed by others like the Honor 90 and Oppo Find N3 Flip, another entry in the flip phone brigade. Clearly, the shape of things in the smartphone industry is flipping and folding, but the question remains if Apple is listening.

Wish you a Techy Halloween.

Tribute to the spirit of innovation

We recently celebrated the 77th independence day, and in my opinion, this year’s celebration was not just a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices of our forefathers but also a testament to the progress and innovation that has propelled our nation forward.

Over the last few decades, technology has become the driving force behind innovation and progress in our rapidly evolving world. Infosys, one of India’s tech giants, has grown to colossal proportions, redefining the global IT landscape. No wonder, for the August edition, we chose Infosys for our “How Big is” segment, looking at its significant role in shaping the modern Indian tech industry.

Our reviews section covers an array of gadgets and technology, providing insights into the latest innovations and helping you make informed choices. This time, we had a lot of gadgets to play with, including POCO M6 Pro 5G, Samsung Z Fold5, Samsung Z Flip5, ViewSonic Projector, Moto Razr 40 Ultra, OnePlus Nord CE3 5G, HP Omen 17, LG Gram 2023, Asus ROG Ally, and more.

What’s in a name? Apparently, quite a lot. We explore the intriguing world of rebranding in the tech sector, examining how companies transition from their original names to new, more fitting monikers. Furthermore, We delve into the complex realm of privacy in the digital age, exploring the balance between convenience and safeguarding personal information.

The wheels of innovation are turning, quite literally, towards electric vehicles. We explore the motivations behind tech giants entering the electric vehicle market and their potential to transform the automotive industry. Also, we had a comprehensive look at 36 electric car companies at the forefront of shaping the automotive landscape, offering a glimpse into the exciting future of sustainable transportation.

In a world deeply immersed in digital experiences, we shed light on the importance of digital independence and why managing screen time matters for the well-being of individuals, especially the younger generation. Reflecting on the journey since independence, we present a yearwise account of India’s achievements, highlighting the progress made in various fields over the decades.

The 77th Independence Day was a moment to reflect on the strides we’ve made, the challenges that lie ahead, and the exciting technological possibilities that will shape our nation’s future. This issue of Exhibit is a tribute to the spirit of innovation, progress, and determination that defines modern India.

AI Chat Bot

uckle up and get yourself together to witness the firstever issue of Exhibit Magazine, where our editors embark on an exhilarating collaboration with language-based AI chatbots, such as the illustrious ChatGPT and the enigmatic Google Bard. Together, they have crafted an anthology of spellbinding articles meticulously curated to reveal the cutting-edge marvels of AI technology and the extraordinary possibilities it holds.

The prominence of AI cannot be denied, and OpenAI has been at the forefront of this revolution. In “How Big is OpenAI?”, we closely examine this tech giant and its crucial role in shaping the AI landscape. Then, we have a groundbreaking witty banter where the iPhone 14 Pro Max sits down with none other than the very first iPhone. Witness a captivating conversation that spans generations of innovation, and discover how far we’ve come in the world of mobile technology.

Mental health is critical to our well-being, and AI’s role in this area is becoming increasingly vital. In “AI and Mental Health”, we investigate how AI applications are transforming mental health care and support. ChatGPT deserves a spotlight as it is the most popular AI language! In “ChatGPT – Your Superpowered Sidekick for 10 Epic Tasks!”, we showcase how this amazing language model can be your ultimate companion, assisting you with various tasks and challenges.

Beyond AI, discover 15 Active Humanoid Robots in the World, a fascinating exploration of the most advanced and human-like robots developed to date and for tech enthusiasts, we have insightful reviews of MSI Modern 15 B13M, Redmi Buds 4 Active, and Samsung T7 Shield SSD, giving you the lowdown on some cutting-edge gadgets.

It may look scary that machines with opinions can write the whole issue. It might make future generations Dyslexic, but we cannot ignore the heavy involvement of language-based AI chatbots in every field. Globally, media houses are penalising their editorial team for using Open AI, but even using that, human interference and curation are always required. It’s not how much you scored in English literature but how well you can give the prompt.

This is the future, and we should welcome it while focusing on positive rather than negative aspects. It saves lots of time spent on research and composing ideas, but we must refrain from mindlessly repeating and copying content to secure the future of editorial and journalism. We will return to what we love and know best, i.e. writing from the next issue; until then, feel free to judge the AI editorial team that I have hired for this issue. Not Entirely, though.

History Repeats Itself!

In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, it’s easy for the younger generation to take the cutting-edge gadgets and innovations that surround them for granted. The digital age has brought forth a plethora of devices and advancements that have seamlessly integrated into our daily lives. However, it’s important to take a step back and appreciate the obsolete tech of yesterday that may baffle the young you. The June Issue of Exhibit is about retro-tomodern transformation.

Think back to the days of dial-up internet, bulky CRT televisions, and cassette tapes. These were the technological marvels of their time, paving the way for the innovations we enjoy today. Yet, for many young people, these artifacts from the past seem like relics from a bygone era, shrouded in mystery and confusion.

Consider the vinyl records that have recently made a comeback. These large, circular discs were the primary medium for music consumption for several decades. The tactile experience of carefully placing the needle on the spinning vinyl and hearing the warm, analog sound is an experience that is foreign to most music enthusiasts who call themselves Gen Z. The convenience and portability of digital streaming have replaced the tangible connection and ritualistic experience of handling vinyl records.

Similarly, the evolution of music formats is another area that may bewilder the younger generation. From vinyl records to cassette tapes, CDs, and MP3 players, each format has played a pivotal role in shaping the way we consume music. The concept of physically owning music in the form of a tangible object has given way to streaming services that offer instant access to an infinite library of songs at the touch of a button. The idea of purchasing individual albums and carefully organizing them in a physical collection has been replaced by digital playlists and algorithm-based recommendations. Like SoundCloud, which has been my favourite, and we have dug deep to tell you How Big is SoundCloud? If you think that old is obsolete, you will be amazed to know how these 10 classic cars are the most expensive classic cars ever sold in the auction.

Turning our attention to the 80s, we find a decade defined by iconic technology that has since become obsolete. Remember the VCRs that allowed us to watch movies and record television shows? Or the boomboxes that played our favourite tunes with impressive bass and volume? These devices were the epitome of cool and cutting-edge during their time, but now they are often seen as relics in a world dominated by smartphones and wireless speakers.

Reflecting on the tech that defined the 80s, it is worth acknowledging the impact these devices had on popular culture and how they shaped our lives. They were the tools of our entertainment, communication, and self-expression. They brought people together, sparked creativity, and left an indelible mark on the collective memory of a generation.

As the march of progress continues, it is essential to remember and appreciate the technologies that paved the way for the modern marvels we enjoy today. While baffling to the young generation, these antique tech artefacts hold a special place in the evolution of human ingenuity and the ongoing quest for innovation.

So, let’s take a moment to embrace the past and celebrate the obsolete tech that has influenced our lives. It serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come and an inspiration to push the boundaries of what is possible.

Try A Road Trip This Summer!

Remember that “happiness is a way of travel, not a destination”- l strongly believe in this quote. As we approach the summer season, many individuals are gearing up for travel and adventure. However, the technology industry is also a hot topic, with new innovations and advancements being made every day. In the realm of travel, technology has played an increasingly important role in making the experience more seamless and efficient. From online booking platforms to mobile check-ins, travellers can now enjoy a more convenient and hassle-free experience thanks to technology.

At the same time, the summer season offers an opportunity for individuals to disconnect from technology and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether it be a camping trip or a beach vacation, many people are looking to unplug and recharge during their summer travels. My team has planned a special checklist, and its easier for everyone to plan holidays, what tech to carry and the destinations off course. On-the-Go Work Essentials – The Best Laptops for Summer Travel and Remote Work on page 66 , Check Green Getaways – Top 10 Eco-Friendly Stays in India to Unwind and Recharge on Page no 88 and more… However, it’s worth noting that technology can also enhance the summer travel experience in many ways. For example, wearable technology can help individuals track their fitness goals while on vacation, and GPS technology can help them navigate unfamiliar territories.

Overall, as we look forward to the summer season, it’s important to find a balance between embracing the latest technological advancements and taking time to unplug and enjoy the beauty of nature. There are so many beautiful destinations in India that can be best enjoyed on a road trip where you don’t have to enter an airport two hours before, waiting for an average of two hours of flying time and two hours of luggage and airport drops all adds up to 6-7 hours. Most of these can be easily driven and enjoyed, and it’s far more economical. Today highways in India are getting better each day, and cars are affordable and luxurious for long trips; with EVs, it will be far more economical and convenient, leave aside you can plan any time to come back and go. Try a road trip and enjoy the summers !
