Apple launches iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, and 2nd Gen AirPods Pro

Apple today launched its much anticipated iPhone 14 in its first-ever in-person event in two years. The ‘Far Out’ event also saw the launch of the Apple Watch Series 8, The Apple Watch Ultra, and AirPods Pro Second Generation. Read below to check out the details of all the newly launched exciting products by Apple:

Apple iPhone 14 & 14 Plus

Preserving iPhone 13’s standard design, Apple has now introduced the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. This year the company decided to skip the Mini variant as reported previously on multiple platforms. The latest iPhone 14 makes a bold decision of excluding the SIM tray and going solely with eSIM for its US models. While the standard variant of the iPhone 14 starts at $799, the 14 Plus is priced at $899. In India, The iPhone 14 starts at Rs 79,900, and the iPhone 14 Plus variant is priced at 89,900.
A standout feature for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is that the device antennas can connect to satellite frequencies for emergency messaging. While the iPhone 14 sticks to the 6.1-inch screen, the 14 Plus offers a bigger 6.7-inch screen. The company claims that the 14 Plus model comes with the best battery life of any iPhone to this date.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

Apple has finally decided to opt for a major design change after over half a decade. Apple introduced its updated design with the iPhone X back in 2017, and now, in 2022, the redesigned iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have been introduced by the company. Both the handsets now sport a pill-shaped cutout that adjusts dynamically with software integration. Unlike the standard variants, the Pro variants of the iPhone 14 also receive a processing update with the A16 Bionic chip and an always-on display.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has described iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max to be the most innovative iPhone lineup to date. The higher variants feature the newly designed pill-shaped notch which displays animations like live widgets, music controls, etc. The devices also receive a camera update with the Pro variants sporting a 48MP main camera. The new main camera brings improvement to low-light photography using a quad-pixel sensor with a 24mm focal length and f/1.78 aperture. Both the Pro variants will launch on September 16, 2022. In India, The iPhone 14 Pro starts at Rs 1,29,900, whereas, the 14 Pro Max is priced at 1,39,900. Interested buyers can also have an option to buy the 1TB variants of both the Pro devices which are priced at Rs 1,89,900 and Rs 2,35,500 respectively.

The All-new AirPods

A refresh of Apple’s AirPods Pro was long awaited. The company announced the second generation of the popular noise-cancelling earbuds which now houses a new H2 chip. The company promises that the new chip offers a significant improvement in sound quality and marginally better noise cancellation. The latest AirPods Pro is claimed to have a bigger battery that can last up to 6 hours on a single charge. The new earbuds will cost $249 and will be available from September 23, 2022. The AirPods Pro is priced in India at Rs 26,900.

Apple Watch Series 8

Apple has introduced some interesting features with the launch of its Apple Watch Series 8. The new series introduces crash detection which can detect if the user has been in any vehicular accident. The crash detection feature only runs while the user is driving which helps preserve the watch’s battery life. The tech giant claims that with the latest watch series, it has taken its commitment to women’s health further. The device can track temperature changes overnight which can help women gain insights into their ovulation cycle. The Apple Watch Series 8 starts at Rs 45,900 in India and goes up to Rs 79,900 for the higher variants.

Apple Watch SE

Apple also announced an upgrade to the original SE Watch with the launch of the Apple Watch SE second generation. The crash detection feature is also present in the cheaper Apple Watch SE, whereas, the company claims it is 20 per cent faster than the first-gen SE as it houses a new S8 chip. The Apple Watch Series 8 and SE both share the same motion sensors. It will be available in silver, midnight, and starlight colours coupled with new colour-matching back cases. The Apple Watch SE is priced at Rs 29,900 in India.

Apple Watch Ultra

The much-anticipated Apple Watch Ultra has been launched by Apple. The Ultra variant of the Apple Watch is now the top-of-the-line offering by the tech giant. Apple Watch Ultra brings in a bigger display and a design based on outdoor activities. The Apple Watch Ultra is targeted at fitness enthusiasts and athletes who put themselves in extreme conditions. The standout feature of this device is that it is EN13319 certified, which means that it can also be used as a dive computer. The Apple Watch Ultra is priced at Rs 89,900 in India.

Goodbye Apple Watch Series 3

The Apple Watch Series 3 dropped back in September 2017 and has surprisingly been on sale by the company ever since. Five years after its initial release, Apple has continued to sell the device at entry-point pricing even after the launch of the Apple Watch SE. As the tech giants ‘Far Out’ event is expected to introduce the latest lineup of the Apple Watch, it looks like the company is finally bidding farewell to the Apple Watch Series 3.

While the Apple Watch Series 3 is currently available to buy in India on the official Apple website, it is being reported that the series is out of stock in Australia and the UK. Whereas one Series 3 variant is currently unavailable in the US with no updates about a restock. It is confirmed that the upcoming watchOS 9 software will not be compatible with the Apple Watch Series 3, cementing that the series is now at the final leg of its run. It is expected that the Apple Watch Se will be replacing the Series 3.

What’s next?

Apple’s next big event is taking place on September 7. It is expected to introduce an extensive lineup of new products, including the iPhone, Apple Watch, and the rumoured next-generation AirPods pro. It is rumoured that Apple will introduce the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE2, and a pro variant of the Apple Watch. The pro variant is expected t to come with a new design, bigger display, and new health features.

The all-new Pro variant of the Apple Watch is expected to target extreme sports enthusiasts with a rugged design. It is expected to have a flat display which will be 7 percent larger, and a bigger battery size that can power the device for over 18 hours.

5 best Smart Watches & Fitness Trackers you should buy

We’re living in times where we rarely spot someone without a smartphone, smartwatch or fitness tracker, as they’ve become essential gadgets which exploit our lifestyle. Every year, we witness hundreds of launches, which makes our selection journey far-flung and confusing as f**k. To ensure you don’t get trapped in a world of choices, we’ve tested dozens over the past few months to bring you the 7 best smartwatches and fitness trackers.

Why do you need a smartwatch or fitness tracker?

Do you care to know about your heart rate, sleep cycle, daily activities and overall fitness level? If yes, you should get one of these following smartwatches or fitness trackers. Smartwatches and fitness trackers offer almost everything about your health right from your wrist. Over the last few years, the two devices have converged as smartwatches are getting more inclined toward the fitness side while fitness trackers adopted big screens.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

The Samsung Galaxy Watch series is the only watch line that has the guts and power to beat Apple watches. When it comes to the design, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic looks very similar to its cousin Galaxy Watch 4. The device has a circular face with flat edges and offers beyond the premium user experience. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic runs on Samsung’s One UI Watch 3 platform on top of the Wear OS 3 operating system.

The smartwatch comes in two different size case options, 42mm and 44mm. The 42mm model has a 1.19-inch Super AMOLED display, while the 44mm model has a 1.4-inch display. In terms of screen protection, the watch features Corning Gorilla Glass DX, and in terms of memory, the watch is supported by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic works best when you pair it up with the Galaxy smartphone.

Apple Watch Series 7

The name Apple Watch is enough to prove it is the best in the market, at least for the people who own iPhones. The screen size of the Apple Watch 7 is 20% bigger than the Apple Watch 6, but the company hasn’t changed the Apple Watch’s display borders in the last couple of years. The watch runs on watchOS 8, and has a full keyboard for typing out messages. The watch looks fantastic on the wrist and lasts up to two days.

The latest Apple Watch from the Cupertino-based company features about 40% thinner bezels and fast charging support which is 33% quicker than before. The watch also gets an enhanced cycling mode along with the meditation app. Overall, the Apple Watch 7 seems like a good buy, but we recommend buying an Apple Watch 6 as it is reasonably priced or waiting for a few more months to get a brand new Apple Watch 8.

Fitbit Sense

Fitbit Sense is often hailed as the best fitness tracking smartwatch as it offers more advanced health and wellness features than the Versa line. The Fitbit Sense smartwatch is both iOS-compatible and one of the best smartwatches for Android. The watch comes in one size – 40.5mm and a display size of 1.58-inch, 336 x 336 pixels. The Fitbit smartwatch is available in three colours – Silver, Graphite, Gray and offers a very good battery life of 6 days.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro is one of the most pocket-friendly yet decent smartwatches. The watch offers plenty of smart features, a 1.45-inch HD AMOLED display, BioTracker PPG 3.0 Biometric Sensor, good battery life and upright fitness tracking capabilities. The build quality of the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro is not so impressive but is still up to the mark. The smartwatch offers a pretty good battery as it lasts for 12-days straight. All in all, the AMazfit GTR 3 Pro watch is an affordable option if you’re looking for a budget smartwatch with a well-known brand.

Fossil Gen 5

Undoubtedly, Fossil watches are one of the best Wear OS smartwatches in the current market as they have a classic design and get the job done unless you expect a marvel from them. The 12mm thick and 44mm wide Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch features a 1.28in AMOLED screen, which is bright enough to show whatever you’re looking for while in the sunlight. The watch runs on a Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor and is backed by 1GB of RAM.

Samsung launches 5 new products – Fold 4, Flip 4, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro and Buds Pro 2

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event witnessed the launch of 5 new products from the house of Samsung. An iterative update to the existing line-up of foldable devices, the new Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4 have improved to match performance and style as per consumer demand. Samsung also announced the updated Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and an exciting take on rugged watches for outdoor use, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Alongside these launches was an improved and innovative Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2. Let’s take a quick look at what has improved compared to their predecessors.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 was well received after their Note series feature, the S-Pen, was introduced as a part of the package. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 improves over the Fold 3 in many more minor iterative changes. The most significant change is the reduction in the overall weight of Fold 4, weighing 263 gms compared to 271 gms of Fold 3.

This is Samsung’s lightest Fold series phone since its inception in 2019. The outer construction is aircraft-grade aluminum, while the glass sandwich now consists of Gorilla glass Victus and 18% stronger ultra-thin glass. The dimensions and form factor largely remain identical to the Fold 3, while the hardware leaps in terms of processor, display, camera and software. Running on Android 12 over an improved Samsung One UI, the Fold gets an interesting taskbar with multi-window support and flex mode.

Starting with the processor, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 gets the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor improving the NPU required to post-process images and videos to a new level. The camera setup is now identical to the Samsung S22 series, and a new 50MP camera with 2.0-micron pixels improves over the Fold 3’s 1.8-micron pixel allowing more light capture. The optical zoom has been enhanced from 2x to 3x, while a digital zoom of 30x improves the Fold 4’s zoom capabilities from 10x on the Fold 3. This also enables Galaxy S22 series Nightography to capture 23% brighter images in low light conditions. The triple-camera setup is further aided by improved NPU enabling AI ISP, OIS and VDIS. With a Veritas certificate of 200K folds, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 improves on the durability of its hinge. An adaptive S-AMOLED display now features a 1-120Hz refresh rate with a maximum brightness of 1300 nits. The Fold 4 continues with a hidden in-display front camera, and wireless and reverse wireless charging.
