Rough trips demand tough vehicles. Mahindra has unveiled the most eagerly awaited and legendary SUV, The All-New Thar on 15th August 2020.
The All-New Thar is powered by two all-new engines: the 2.0L mStallion TGDi petrol engine producing 150 bhp of power & 320 Nm of torque and the 2.2L mHawk Diesel engine producing 130 bhp of power & 320 Nm of torque. These engines are offered with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, with an authentic 4×4 manual shift transfer case with a low ratio.
It remains faithful to the classic 2-door silhouette but incorporates purposeful and contemporary touches and design features to it. With a wider, better-balanced stance and a choice of hard top and convertible roof top options, the All-New Thar asserts its appearance wherever it goes. This approach to design flows also into the interiors. Although maintaining the commanding driving position which is an important part of the Thar ‘s DNA, the All-New Thar has a fully revamped interior that matches the powerful, retro-styled cues of the Thar’s exteriors.
The latest Thar features an all-new dashboard, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-color TFT MID in the instrument cluster, all-new roof mounted speakers, and steering mounted controls. The latest infotainment system offered by Mahindra Thar comes with a very unique feature. The 7-inch touchscreen displays the vehicle’s real-time data for both on-road and off-road travel.
The All-New Thar has been built on a rugged 3rd Generation chassis and tested extensively in some of the harshest terrain in India and across the world. It has an all-new suspension setup that delivers the impossible: better off-roading capability, as well as superior on-road handling and drive quality. The 6-seater off-roader also has a water wading capacity of 650 mm.
The classic Thar proportions needed to be modified. Mahindra extended the track to 1,820 mm to open up further cabin space. The company has unsized the tires, and now Thar is sitting on R18 (255/65) tyres. The wheelbase of Thar has been increased for smoother entry and exit points.
Two variants-AX (adventure variant) and LX- (lifestyle variant) will be available for the Mahindra Thar. Designed and engineered in India and manufactured out of Mahindra’s Nashik Plant, the All-New Thar will be available in 6 exciting colors, Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Napoli Black, Aquamarine, Galaxy Grey and Rocky Beige.
“Today, with the unveil of the All-New Thar, we rewrite history once again. The All-New Thar is firmly rooted in our rich automotive heritage and upholds the Mahindra DNA in its purest form. We are proud of our authentic SUV legacy that has been guarding the freedom of this nation by serving the armed forces since the 1950s, while simultaneously becoming the spirit of adventure and a lifestyle icon. The All-New Thar is a dynamic expression of fun, freedom, and independence, and is geared up for its next adventure”.
