It’s yet another crazy day for us in the land of Lamborghini. The supercar maker, Automobili Lamborghini, appears to have reserved the best for the last. The Essenza SCV12 is a track-only hypercar in a limited edition of 40 models, fitted with Lamborghini’s most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 engine ever.
The Essenza SCV12 is designed exclusively for track use. The V12 engine can produce more than 830 hp at high speeds, with a significant power-uplift from the RAM effect. Capristo designed the exhaust pipes to minimize back pressure, improve performance, and emphasize the engine’s unique sound. The power is handled by a new X-trac sequential six-speed gearbox as a structural element within the chassis, combined with rear-wheel drive to ensure compactness, structural continuity, and greater torsional stiffness. The Essenza SCV12 has an excellent power-to-weight ratio of 1.66 kg/hp.
The push-rod rear suspension installed directly on the gearbox to ensure maximum agility and stability even on the most demanding tracks. The panorama is finished by specific slick Pirelli tires mounted on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear magnesium wheels, which frame the brake discs and calipers developed by Brembo Motorsport.
The aerodynamic parts are strongly inspired by Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO, delivering 1,200 kg at 250 km/h. The front hood has a double air intake with a central rib, typical of the Huracán racing cars, separating the hot airflow from the radiator and sending the cool air to the air scoop on the roof. The front contains a splitter and two lateral elements; the engine and gearbox cooling flows are optimized on the sides by using vertical fins located on the side sills. The aerodynamic package is completed by the large adjustable double-profile rear wing.
The important nature of the car is highlighted by the bodywork structure, which consists of only three components to enable quick replacement at pit stops when required.
The sleek yet taut and dynamic lines blend the charm of Lamborghini’s DNA-typical prototypes and elements from the 1970s such as the hexagonal geometry that characterizes the front headlights, and the air scoop roof and air vents that surround the steering wheel. There’s also the unmistakable “Y,” the recurring stylistic feature on the livery and in the cockpit, where every aspect reflects the best balance between lightweight, functionality, and design. In fact, the instrument panel and dashboard are supported by an asymmetrical carbon “Y”, a load-bearing and stylistic element that frames the cockpit, designed to place the driver at the core of the absolute driving experience.
The design of the multi-function steering wheel with the display was inspired by the F1 single-seat steering wheels, providing the finest ergonomics and perfect feel, without the need for the driver to lift his hands from the rim with its futuristic yet rational design. The specific FIA certified carbon-shell OMP seat embraces the driver to ensure comfort, safety, and stability.
The lucky few who get to buy the Essenza SCV12 would become immediately members of a very exclusive club that will allow them access to special programs to drive their hypercar on the world’s most prestigious circuits. The track calendar will start with ‘arrive and drive’ events hosted at various FIA Grade 1 approved circuits in 2021.
