Samsung Galaxy M14 5G / Revolutionizing the Sub-₹15k Smartphone Market

Samsung unveiled a new smartphone in their affordable Galaxy lineup – the M14 5G, which comes in three colours– Icy Silver, Berry Blue and Smoky Teal. I usually have low expectations for entry-level smartphones, but the Galaxy M14 5G exceeded my expectations. The M14 5G delivers a complete smartphone experience, but can it compete with its rivals? Let’s check it out.

Display:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G features a 6.6-inch PLS LCD panel with FHD+ resolution, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The display supports a smooth 90 Hz refresh rate, allowing smooth scrolling between screens. The display is bright, with natural colours and good detail. However, the viewing angles are mediocre, and it doesn’t have HDR certification.

Design:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G continues the premium look trend of Samsung smartphones with a teardrop notch and a glossy rear panel finish. The camera module design and the circular ring-like modules for the three rear cameras make it more recognisable as a Samsung device. The phone houses a USB-Type C port, a single speaker, and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the bottom of the phone, while the right side has the SIM tray and power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor.

Camera:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G has a triple camera setup, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. The camera performance is impressive for a budget smartphone, with natural-looking images, good detail, and accurate colour reproduction. The macro sensor does a decent job, but the depth sensor could be better. The front-facing camera is a 13MP sensor that takes decent selfies but struggles in low light.

Performance:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G is powered by an Exynos 1330 5 nm SoC, making it an unbelievable performance-oriented beast on paper. It’s one of the few smartphones with 5 nm processors under ₹15K. The phone has One UI 4.0 based on Android 13, a clean and minimalistic UI. The phone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card. The phone is fast and snappy, and it handles day-to-day tasks and multitasking with ease. However, the fingerprint sensor can be quite bothersome, as it doesn’t always read fingerprints accurately.

Battery:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G comes with a 6000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging, lasting a day of moderate use. The phone has a USB Type-C port for charging but doesn’t support wireless charging.

Verdict:

The Samsung Galaxy M14 5G is an affordable smartphone that packs a punch. It has 5G connectivity, a 5 nm processor, a smooth 90 Hz refresh rate, and a triple camera setup, making it an excellent choice for a budget smartphone. The camera output is impressive, and the phone is fast and snappy. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy M14 5G is an impressive smartphone that could revolutionise the sub-₹15,000 smartphone market.

Samsung launches 5 new products – Fold 4, Flip 4, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro and Buds Pro 2

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event witnessed the launch of 5 new products from the house of Samsung. An iterative update to the existing line-up of foldable devices, the new Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4 have improved to match performance and style as per consumer demand. Samsung also announced the updated Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and an exciting take on rugged watches for outdoor use, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Alongside these launches was an improved and innovative Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2. Let’s take a quick look at what has improved compared to their predecessors.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 was well received after their Note series feature, the S-Pen, was introduced as a part of the package. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 improves over the Fold 3 in many more minor iterative changes. The most significant change is the reduction in the overall weight of Fold 4, weighing 263 gms compared to 271 gms of Fold 3.

This is Samsung’s lightest Fold series phone since its inception in 2019. The outer construction is aircraft-grade aluminum, while the glass sandwich now consists of Gorilla glass Victus and 18% stronger ultra-thin glass. The dimensions and form factor largely remain identical to the Fold 3, while the hardware leaps in terms of processor, display, camera and software. Running on Android 12 over an improved Samsung One UI, the Fold gets an interesting taskbar with multi-window support and flex mode.

Starting with the processor, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 gets the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor improving the NPU required to post-process images and videos to a new level. The camera setup is now identical to the Samsung S22 series, and a new 50MP camera with 2.0-micron pixels improves over the Fold 3’s 1.8-micron pixel allowing more light capture. The optical zoom has been enhanced from 2x to 3x, while a digital zoom of 30x improves the Fold 4’s zoom capabilities from 10x on the Fold 3. This also enables Galaxy S22 series Nightography to capture 23% brighter images in low light conditions. The triple-camera setup is further aided by improved NPU enabling AI ISP, OIS and VDIS. With a Veritas certificate of 200K folds, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 improves on the durability of its hinge. An adaptive S-AMOLED display now features a 1-120Hz refresh rate with a maximum brightness of 1300 nits. The Fold 4 continues with a hidden in-display front camera, and wireless and reverse wireless charging.

Night-photography also comes included on the bold new camera deco. It also gets improved AI ISP, OIS and VDIS.

The hinges have been reduced by 1.2mm, an engineering marvel from Samsung engineers. The battery capacity has improved to 3700 mAh, a 10% improvement from its predecessor Flip 3. The ultra-thin glass too has improved in strength by 18%. The new Galaxy Flip 4 also gets intuitive multi-angle capture, seamless vlogging mode and a hands-free camera experience. The ANC levels have improved by 1.4 times on the new pair. Multi-device connectivity enables auto-switch functionality. The added 360-degree sound enabled by Dolby Atmos and tuned by AKG makes this an apt solution for Dolby Atmos-enabled content. The most considerable improvement has come in the form of 24-bit audio inputs transmitted as 24-bit audio outputs. This brings a massive leap in wireless connectivity for music lovers and improves the overall listening experience by a huge margin. The overall battery sits at 515 mAh with the case, while the earbuds get 61 mAh for operations. They can be powered by a USB Type-C port and also support wireless charging.

Review – Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

If you own a Lamborghini or Ferrari, you must have missed a very creative TVC of Samsung Galaxy A series smartphones, including Galaxy A33, A53 and A73. All the smartphones from the A-series were well appreciated and added a lot of success to the company’s portfolio, particularly in the mid-range smartphone market. Out of these three recently launched smartphones, we picked Galaxy A53 5G.

The Good The Bad The Ugly
Great Display User Interface No charger included
Outdoor Camera Performance Overall Performace Exynos 1280 Chipset

Design & Display

The smartphone has an almost similar design to its predecessor, Galaxy A 52s 5G, but it has a distinct design language that helps it appear as a premium smartphone. The smartphone looks stunning from every angle, but the bezels are noticeably thinner, which lowers the interest somehow. The 6.5-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy A53 5G is protected by a flat piece of Gorilla Glass 5.

The Galaxy A53 5G weighs only 189 grams, and the comfortable rounded body of the smartphone allows you to have an excellent grip on the phone. The smartphone is mainly made from plastic, yet it feels premium in hand, thanks to the matte-finished polycarbonate back panel and placement of the cameras. The fingerprint reader of the A53 5G is embedded in the display and is quite reliable.

Chipset & Performance

The smartphone is equipped with Samsung’s new in-house chipset Exynos 1280 but doesn’t offer a few top-notch features which we usually get in Galaxy phones. However, the company does offer the promise of extended software support for the Galaxy A53 5G, which means one can expect about 4 OS upgrades and 5-years of security patches.

The smartphone supports 5G, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and regular satellite navigation systems. The predecessor of the Galaxy A53 had a much more powerful chipset (Galaxy A52 – Qualcomm SM7125 Snapdragon 720G) compared to this one. However, the company remarks speak a different story. The Galaxy A53 failed to impress us in the game testing as there were some hiccups here and there.

Camera & Battery

The Galaxy A53 5G features a familiar quad-camera setup which includes a 64 MP F1.8 primary camera with optical image stabilization, 12MP ultrawide and two 5MP sensors. Overall, all the cameras are satisfactory, but thanks to the increased AI performance, it helps the phone to have an improved portrait mode for both front and back cameras. Also, the phone now has more vivid and saturated colours.

Verdict

The base model of the Galaxy A53 5G (6GB+128GB) is priced at ₹34,499, while the top variant of the A53 is priced at ₹35,999. The phone is available in awesome blue, black, peach, and white. The smartphone looks premium, works well, and offers a pleasing outdoor camera output, but if you compare it with the M33, priced at ₹17,999, you would definitely scrap the idea of buying the Galaxy A53.

Samsung Galaxy A73 5G Price & Specifications Announced

Samsung Launched Galaxy S22 Series & Galaxy Tab S8 Series at Galaxy Unpacked 2022

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series was highly anticipated, especially the Ultra model. Samsung bought a welcome surprise in the form of a flagship tablet – the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 are offered in 3 variants, each with the Ultra variant commanding their flagship positions.

This new line-up of phones and tablets from Samsung features industry-first 4nm processors. Samsung is yet to confirm which processor is available in India but considering the 4nm information – We anticipate these phones and tablets to feature either Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Monster specs as usual from these flagship offerings with up to 12GB RAM on phones to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage on the Tab S8 Ultra. Ranging from 6.1 inches on the Galaxy S22 to all the way 14.6 inches on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, Samsung has raided the android phone and tablet market with unique products this year.

In 2022, Samsung Galaxy S22 sees the return of glass sandwich design with Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both front and rear. The camera setup has seen a new addition on all phones, starting from 50MP primary to 108MP primary on the top end. Varying in sizes, the Galaxy S22 series consists of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The brightness levels have seen a bump from brighter 1500nits on the base model to 1750nits on the flagship phone. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra brings a taste of the Note series by adding a built-in S-Pen that stores neatly and performs better than any Note series thanks to 2.8-ms latency, the best from Samsung yet.

Samsung claims more robust chassis on these phones and offers them in reasonable weight despite their stronger shell. The Galaxy Tab S8 series brings the best of Samsung as a top-of-the-line Android tablet. Samsung barely has any competitors in this space other than the largest-selling tablet from Apple, the iPad.

It’s great to see something similarly powerful offered in a host of offerings starting from 11-inches all the way to 14.6inches, almost knocking the laptop category doorstep. Presented from a TFT display on the Galaxy Tab S8 to SAMOLED on the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the S-Pen is a standard accessory with each Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series.

These tablets run on similar processors as the phones and should be plenty fast. Samsung claims up to 15 hours of battery life on continuous video viewing on these tablets. We shall wait and watch how efficient these new processors and products from Samsung are in the longer run. Samsung has started this year with a bang, and their new algorithms and hardware claim amazing nighttime photography and much more with the return of the S-Pen on phones. All of these run Android 12 with Samsung’s new One UI 4 that brings a host of privacy features and more. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the new Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are surely welcomed in a mundane market of look-alikes.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Series: New Beginnings For Samsung

Honestly, watches for Android smartphones are not even a bit attractive in terms of features and looks, when compared to what Apple does with its accessories. Who other than Google is to be blamed for not creating a competitor to Apple watch and missing a perfect opportunity.

But I think I might have to change my perspective for the better now. Google and Samsung have joined forces to rebuild the WearOS from the ground up. It seems like Samsung’s Galaxy series of smartwatches is bearing all the weight of the company’s ambitions to produce competitive wearables in the market.

Dubbed ‘WearOS by Samsung’, Samsung Galaxy watch 4 series will be the smartwatches to run the latest WearOS 3 version. I got my hands on one of the Galaxy Watch 4 series and here are my first impressions:

Design and Aesthetics

Samsung is hyping up the latest Galaxy Watch 4 like anything. And honestly, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has got one of the most timeless designs ever. It can go perfectly with any outfit you wear, be it formals, casuals, or leisure.

The watch fits perfectly on the wrist and never gives you the impression that you are wearing a smartwatch. The watch 4 series got a slight unexpected upgrade in its screen. The larger version devices now have a 1.4-inch screen running at 450 x 450, while the smaller models have 1.2-inch panels. The watch 4 has a touch-sensitive ring.

This Samsung box includes a 20mm strap which can be swapped later to your convenience.

WearOS 3

Samsung conveniently switched from their Tizen operating system to One UI3, a customised version of Google’s Wear Os 3 that they co-developed.

Unlike the other Wear Os watches, one cannot use the Galaxy Watch 4 with an iPhone, since many of the advanced features, such as ECG function requires a Samsung phone. It has its Galaxy wearable app to pair, and connect, and manage settings.

Battery Life

The  W920 Exynos chip in Galaxy watch4 is 20% faster with a 10 % improved graphic performance than their predecessors. The watch feels faster and Much smoother than most wear OS watches, but not quite up to the rapid experience that Apple’s watch series 6 offers.

We found the Galaxy Watch 4 requires a daily charge to power features like an always-on display and routine fitness tracking. The watch works up to 40 hours a day but that might differ with the purpose of use.

Additional Features

The Galaxy Watch 4 series is powered by the Exynos W920 dual-core processor clocked at 1.18GHz. It has 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There is support for Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and four satellite navigation systems. The Watch 4 Classic is IP68 rated for water resistance up to 5ATM.

For few days, I’ve been tracking the activities through this watch. The Galaxy Watch 4 provides audible and vibration updates on mileage, and also a brief activity summary every 30 minutes.

The support page of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G smartphone has gone live on the company’s official website. Previously, the leaked images and specifications of the phone have appeared multiple times on different websites, but now the handset with model number M-M526B/DS has popped up on Samsung India’s official website, which means the device will soon hit the Indian markets.

The Samsung M series is one of the most loved series by the Indian audience, and they’ve been waiting for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G for a long time. Smartphone companies create phone support pages when the phones are about to launch, but sadly, the company hasn’t revealed any details about the launch date, price and specifications on the support page.

The yet-to-be-launched smartphone has passed through several certification websites, including the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website and Bluetooth SIG. According to trusted insiders, the smartphone is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset and the latest One UI 3.1 based on Android 11.

The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is tipped to have a 7,000 mAh battery, just like its predecessor, Galaxy M51, and it is expected to come with a 15W fast charging feature. According to the Geekbench listing, the smartphone may arrive with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
