Sony launches Portable party speaker with 25 hours battery backup

Sony India has recently launched a new speaker called SRS-XV500, designed to provide a long-lasting audio experience and equipped with built-in lighting and a rechargeable battery that can last up to 25 hours of playback. The speaker has two X-Balanced Speaker Units that deliver powerful bass with minimal distortion and two tweeters that provide clear vocals and an expanded sound field. The non-circular diaphragm maximizes the speaker diaphragm’s area, increasing sound pressure for deeper and punchier bass, less distortion, and greater vocal clarity. Additionally, the speaker can be positioned vertically or horizontally, making it adaptable to any environment.

The SRS-XV500 is designed to last for a long time without letting you down and can be quickly charged within 10 minutes, lasting up to 2.5 hours of playing time. The speaker also has a Battery Care Function that prevents overcharging, making it more dependable for longer. SRS-XV500 also has a karaoke functionality that lets you sing your favourite songs by plugging in a karaoke mic and pressing play. You can even duet with a friend on a second mic or plug in a guitar to ramp things up even further. Both inputs have individual mixing, and you can adjust the sound to your preference using the Echo and Key Control on the unit’s rear panel. Apart from delivering excellent sound quality, the SRS-XV500 also helps create a party atmosphere with its ambient light feature. You can customize the illumination by using the Fiestable mobile app, and you can also take control of your modes, settings, and lighting with the easy-to-use touch panel that is conveniently illuminated.

You can use the SRS-XV500 to play music with USB connectivity or to charge your other devices like smartphones. The speaker has an IPX4 water-resistant rating, meaning you can use it outside confidently, even if it rains. The built-in handle makes it easy to carry the speaker wherever you go.

The SRS-XV500 is compatible with both Sony | Music Center and Fiestable apps. You can select playlists with Sony | Music Center and change lighting patterns and sound modes. Fiestable allows you to access fun features to help create the ultimate party atmosphere, such as making a playlist, karaoke functions including Voice Changer and Echo, plus DJ control to add sound effects. Sony has also used recycled plastic for the body of SRS-XV500, reflecting its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its products.

The Sony SRS-XV500 party speaker will be available across Sony retail stores (Sony Center and Sony Exclusive) from 23rd February 2024 onwards at ₹31990/-

10 Things to Consider Before Buying a Digital Camera

Thinking about taking a leap of faith with photography? The vast array of cameras available today can be overwhelming, and choosing the right camera would be a journey that can offer you a free dose of headaches. So, we’ve jotted down 18 things to consider before buying a digital camera to help you navigate this thrilling landscape and find the perfect camera that suits both your needs and budget.

Set A Budget Before Buying

Whether you’re eyeing a sleek DSLR or a compact powerhouse, knowing your financial boundaries will save you from the frustration of falling for a camera that’s beyond your means. Start with a more budget-friendly option to hone your photography skills before splurging on a high-end model.

Prime Lens Vs Zoom Lens

A prime lens offers a fixed focal length, providing affordability and lighter weight. In contrast, a zoom lens with variable focal lengths provides versatility but comes at a higher cost and greater bulk. So, before purchasing, consider your shooting style and preferences when making this decision.

Small Doesn’t Mean Underpowered

Don’t underestimate the potential of compact cameras. Their portability, inconspicuousness, and advancements in megapixel resolutions make them formidable contenders against larger DSLRs. Small cameras can be perfect for capturing moments without the burden of carrying heavy equipment.

Compact Cameras Pack a Punch

Never underestimate the potential of compact cameras. Their portability, inconspicuousness, and advancements in megapixel resolutions position them as formidable competitors against larger DSLRs. Small cameras can be perfect for capturing moments without the burden of lugging around heavy equipment.

Exercise Caution with Package Deals

Package deals may appear tempting, but hop on carefully. Scrutinise the contents and compare individual prices before succumbing to bundled offers. While some deals may be alluring, they could lead to unnecessary expenses on items you may not actually need.

Demand Magnified Photo Previews

Previewing images on a digital camera is a boon, but for a more detailed inspection, opt for a camera with a magnified preview mode. This feature enables you to scrutinise image details, ensuring the highest quality, a crucial consideration for professionals and enthusiasts striving for perfection.

Don’t Overlook Built-In Microphones

The potential benefits of a built-in microphone should not be overlooked. Cameras with voice memo or voice annotation features allow you to add context to your photos, enhancing organisation and memory. Additionally, a movie mode with sound opens up possibilities for creating short videos, ideal for documenting your adventures or even embarking on a YouTube journey.

Decoding Megapixel

Ready to take the pixelated journey with your digital companion? Megapixels, the digital currency of cameras, often pull us into a pixelated rabbit hole. But hold on tight, for not all pixels are born equal. Enter the mysterious Foveon X3 three-layer sensor, a technological marvel that reshapes the rules of the pixel game.

The Lure of Low Prices: Unmasking Deception

Bargain hunters, beware! In the labyrinth of camera prices, the enticing allure of a too-good-to-be-true deal may be a mirage. As you eye that budget-friendly camera, tread cautiously through the pitfalls of package deals. A seemingly affordable camera might be the bait, leading you into a web of substandard accessories, closeout memories, and dubious promises.

The Tripod Socket

When it comes to visual storytelling, let the stability of your camera not be an afterthought. The tripod is a silent maestro of steadiness and deserves a dance partner well-grounded in balance. When selecting your visual companion, heed the siren call of the tripod socket. Seek its residence on the underbelly of your digital marvel.

Ideally centred, it clasps the tripod in harmonious equilibrium, ensuring every frame is a testament to clarity, untainted by the tremors of an unsteady embrace. For those who envision crystal-clear tales etched on the canvas of pixels, let the socket’s placement be a prelude to your photographic symphony, a perfect overture to stability.

Size Does Matter – Sony’s Holiday Makeover for the PlayStation 5

After three years of eager anticipation, Sony has taken the gaming world by storm with the dazzling debut of its revamped PlayStation 5 console. Precisely, this isn’t just any ordinary upgrade, it’s a captivating evolution of design and functionality that will leave gamers awestruck.

The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition have undergone a remarkable transformation, not in power but in size and aesthetics. Sony proudly boasts a reduction of 30% in volume and a shedding of weight by 18% and 24%, setting a new standard for sleekness in gaming.

Sony has also revamped the removable panels and split them into four distinct parts, giving a stylish twist to the machine. The upper halves gleam with a glossy finish, while the lower halves exude a chic matte vibe. However, if you want to add a splash of colour to your console, you’ll need to purchase additional panels with matte black and the captivating Deep Earth Collection hues like Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue, tantalizingly available in early 2024.

The real game-changer is the newly detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, which you can add disc functionality to your Digital Edition console or replace a faulty drive. Sony offers this innovative drive separately, catering exclusively to the new console lineup. The PlayStation 5 now boasts a generous one terabyte of storage space, a step up from the previous 825GB, ensuring you never run out of room for your cherished gaming adventures.

Internally, the console remains consistent with the earlier version, keeping gamers in familiar territory. With all these improvements, Sony has slightly adjusted the price tag, bumping the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition to $450 (around 37,500), while the standard model still stands at $500(around 42000).

Strap in for Nostalgia – The History and Legacy of the Walkman

In the early 1980s, a revolution was born. It was not a political one nor a scientific one, but a cultural one. And it arrived in the form of a sleek, portable cassette player called the Walkman. Just saying the name brings back tons of memories, right folks from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s? The little boxy gadget revolutionised how we listen to music in no time, want to know how, come along!

Life before the Walkman

Earlier, back in the 70s, listening to music on the go was a cumbersome experience, as portable cassette players were huge, heavy and required access to electricity or a pair of batteries. No doubt, they were not designed to be carried around, and the quality of the sound was often mediocre at best. Then, in 1979, the Japanese electronics company Sony introduced the Walkman.

The Game-changer

The Walkman was a game-changer, and it quickly became a cultural phenomenon that would forever change the way we interacted with music. It was small, lightweight, and battery-operated, allowing people to take their music with them wherever they went. It was a status symbol, a sign of sophistication, a style element and a symbol of rebellion, a way for young people to express themselves and their individuality.

The Walkman was featured in movies and TV shows, and it became a fixture in popular culture. Besides being a cultural phenomenon, it was also a technological breakthrough that paved the way for the digital music revolution. With a headphone jack, it allowed users to listen to their music in private without disturbing others, and the sound quality was astounding, thanks to the Walkman’s advanced audio technology.

The boxy device inspired a new generation of portable music devices and allowed us to express ourselves and our individuality through the music we listened to. It was the first portable music player that allowed users to take their entire music collection with them, thanks to its capability to play cassette tapes. In the 90s, when CDs started dominating the scene, the Walkman fearlessly evolved to embrace the shiny discs too.

The Impact of Walkman on Pop Culture

The Walkman’s impact on popular culture cannot be overstated, that little gadget was the bee’s knees back in the day. It appeared in movies and TV shows, and it became a fixture in the music industry. The device even influenced the way music was produced, with artists focusing more on creating music that sounded good on a portable device, which ultimately paved the way for the digital music revolution.

The Patrick Bateman Connection

The Walkman was a true legend, it even embraced the silver screen! In the 2000 flick American Psycho, Christian Bale’s character Patrick Bateman was head over heels for his Walkman. He used it to drown out the noise of the world around him and get lost in his twisted thoughts. And let’s face it, even though Bateman was a fictional character, his devotion to the Walkman was oh so real.

The Legacy

The Walkman’s legacy can be seen in the portable music players that came after it. The iPod, introduced by Apple in 2001, was an unofficial descendant of the Walkman. It was called the 21st-Century Walkman, but besides being lightweight and portable, it also had the ability to store thousands of songs. And like the Walkman, the iPod also quickly became a cultural phenomenon, a symbol of style and sophistication.

The legacy of the Walkman lives on, reverberating through the halls of technological progress. Its influence echoes in the portable music players of today, from the rise of MP3 players to the ubiquitous presence of music streaming on our smartphones. The Walkman’s indelible mark on the world of audio entertainment is a testament to its enduring legacy. Wanna experience it, then get one by spending as less as ₹29,990.

So the next time you pop in your earbuds and hit play, take a moment to remember the Walkman. It may have been a simple device, but its impact on popular culture and technology was truly groundbreaking. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, dust off your old Walkman (if you have one) and give it a spin. Who knows, you may just rediscover the magic that made it a cultural icon in the first place.

GoPro HERO 11 Black

The GoPro HERO11 Black is a significant upgrade with best-in-class stabilisation and a versatile, almost square sensor. The camera shoots great-looking videos and has new modes like light painting. The standout feature is its 8:7 aspect ratio, allowing content creators to create new clips from a single video. The camera can shoot in 5.3K at 60fps, 4K at 120fps, and 2.7K at 240fps and capture 27MP stills from 5.3K video. Despite no significant improvement in lowlight performance, the HERO11 Black’s simplified interface and enhanced horizon levelling make it appealing to social media enthusiasts.

Insta360 One RS

Get the best of both worlds with Insta360’s One RS. The camera comes with three interchangeable lenses: a 4K mod, a dual-lens 360-degree camera, and a Leica lens with a 1-inch sensor that captures 5K video. The 4K mod and 360 mod pairing offer the best value, while the Leica 1-inch mod delivers top-notch video quality. The updated Insta360 One RS shoots 5.2K video with its improved 4K mod and processor, which features a motion-smoothing algorithm. Plus, firmware updates continuously enhance its features, making it a wise investment.

AKASO Brave 7 LE

Looking for a

GoPro alternative that won’t hurt your wallet? The AKASO Brave 7 LE is an excellent option. This affordable camera has an IPX7 rating and feels sturdy. It can endure submersion in 1m of water for 30 minutes, but you’ll need a protective case for more comprehensive underwater adventures. The Brave 7 LE features a front screen for vlogging and decent stabilisation, albeit with a 1.6x crop. Although it maxes out at 30 fps in 4k, it can still record 120 fps slow-motion footage in 1080p. Overall, it’s an excellent action cam for the price.

DJI’s Osmo Action 3

DJI’s Osmo Action 3 combines the form factor of the original with the magnetic clip system of the second. Its GoPro-like design features dual touch screens and a magnetic quick-clip system, making it a solid alternative to GoPro. With great battery life and excellent video stabilisation, the Osmo Action 3 is cheaper than GoPro, making it a compelling option. However, GoPro Hero 10 and 11 have better video resolution, with the Osmo Action 3 maxing out at 4K and 12-megapixel stills, compared to the Hero 11’s 5.3K stabilised video and 26-megapixel stills. Nevertheless, at 30k, the Osmo Action 3 is an excellent value for money.

DJI Pocket 2

The DJI Pocket 2 may not fit the traditional definition of an action camera, but its built-in gimbal makes it stand out. This pocket camera stabilises footage smoothly and effectively across three axes, with customisable settings like horizon lock and tilt prevention. Additionally, it has an active tracking mode that can lock onto subjects and follow them. While lacking some frame rate options, the camera’s 1/1.7-inch sensor provides superior video quality and low-light performance compared to most action cameras. It’s an excellent option for capturing handheld, stabilised video without carrying additional gear.
