Want to try a Skoda? Now you can, touchfree!

It’s been “125 years of glorious history and heritage” since ŠKODA AUTO was first introduced to the world and has been blooming since then. With its 125th anniversary in play, ŠKODA AUTO has established the second wave of the contactless programme that all the automobile enthusiasts have been talking about. This recent development has received a great deal of encouragement across the world.

After the country was given the freedom to unlock their homes with the implementation of UNLOCK 1.0 in early June, ŠKODA AUTO India superseded everything in the entire digital automotive purchase ecosystem with the introduction of a centralized booking platform for the customers. The platform was highly appreciated which finally paved the way for the establishment of the second wave. It is developed and designed considering the Covid-19 situation, to give an opportunity to the customers to buy cars online without having to risk their lives in the first place.

The programme is developed in a way that is appropriate for the customers—a transparent and contactless experience that Czech marque commits to deliver along with the customer’s safety as the first priority. The platform requires you to choose the ŠKODA AUTO vehicle from the comfort of your own home in a hassle-free and convenient manner. It supports a robust live consultation suite and a contactless virtual product demonstration option, available for sign up on the website, and accessible via video conferencing over smartphones, tablets and personal computers while integrating with the 80 plus dealership touchpoints nationwide. The platform is undoubtedly safe and secure.

The service is easily available through video conferences on smartphones, tablets and personal computers, offering customers the facility of contactless test drives at their doorsteps.

“The ŠKODA AUTO contactless programme testifies our commitment to use technology as a tool to stay connected with our customers and deliver an uncompromised sales and service experience, more so in these unprecedented circumstances. The latest initiative provides customers with an opportunity to explore and experience our exciting new range of products from the comfort of their home”, said Zac Hollis, the Brand Director of ŠKODA AUTO, India.

Also, Czech marque believes in the typical practice of digitizing the ownership experience by providing a single window interface between an existing or a prospective customer and the branch through the latest MyŠKODA mobile application. The MYŠKODA App is available for download on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and Google Play store for Android devices. Customers can select their most preferred dealership, book an appointment according to their preferred time slot. They can also access service history, understand cost estimation through the cost calculator, buy accessories, itemized billing records and connect to ŠKODA customer care, if needed.

‘Simply Clever’ philosophy introduced by ŠKODA AUTO provides technologies like AI enabled Chat Bot, facilitating 24×7 support services, reduced turnaround time, and enhanced interactions. Amidst the pandemic, the automobile industry is going to great lengths to provide the best services possible to its customers. We simply have to use them!

Hey gamers of India! Gaben is coming…

The Gaming Industry has a huge turnover in India, in tune with the rest of the world. With the pandemic hitting the world so hard, many releases had to be delayed. A huge audience awaits the release of movies, games and books throughout the year. However, there is nothing to be worried about, especially gaming enthusiasts. We’ve got you gamers covered. Here’s a list of the best upcoming games (at least the ones we think are super cool!) that you should look out for:

MARVEL’S AVENGERS

A dream every Marvel Fan has looked forward to coming true; The third-person action-adventure featuring all the Marvel superheroes where you get to step in the shows of your favorite hero. It can be played solo or cooperatively with up to 4 players online. The story starts with an A-Day celebration at the Avengers west coast headquarters. With an explosion due to the latest tarragon crystal reactor, the city of San Francisco is ruined and the avengers are boycotted; Only to be proved innocent by Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel). The super humans are aimed to be fighting against a conspiracy built by an organization, AIM. Play your favorite superhero, and save the world from the threat.

You can unlock powerful skills and gears and customize it according to your playstyle. The game releases on September 4, 2020.

 KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM 2~

‘The next generation of space exploration’, Kerbal Space Program 2 is a simulation game and a sequel to the space flight simulation Kerbal Space Program from Private Division. With exciting new parts, colony building in space, interstellar travel, enhanced modding, and stunning visuals; this multiplayer game is all set to take off to space—Pun intended! The exact date is uncertain. Although, spacecraft from the game are known to launch sometime around Fall 2021.

WATCH DOGS: LEGION~

The sequel to Watch Dogs 2, Watch Dogs: Legion is a third-person action-adventure game set up in London. Unlike other versions, this one does not have a single protagonist. Instead, the game revolves around multiple characters recruited through a unique mission. After recruitment: they will be assigned either combat, stealth or hacking. With a unique set of skills, abilities and an entirely different background dictating the special trait, the players level up by completing various missions and activities. Ubisoft announced the game’s planned release on October 29, 2020.

STAR WARS: SQUADRON~

Set up in the universe of Star Wars, it is an upcoming space combat game with the storyline of ‘The Return of Jedi’. For all the star wars fans, this multiplayer game is playable in Virtual Reality using VR Headsets too! The story alternates between two customizable pilots who are flying for New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron and the Empire’s Titan Squadron and pits them against each other. As players move ahead in the game, they unlock exciting features such as gears, upgrades, shields, upgrades and various cosmetic items for the ships!

The game is said to be released on October 2nd, 2020.

FAST & FURIOUS: CROSSROADS~

The film franchise the game is based on has been my personal favorite. The hybrid racing and action role-playing video game is set up in different locations such as Barcelona, New Orleans, Morocco and Athens. Grab this chance of being a part of the ‘Fast saga’ and avoid the traps set up by the villains by using weapons and gadgets available throughout the game. The gameplay in the recent trailer shown is a combination between Ridge Racer and God Eater gameplays.

The game was supposed to be released in May 2020, but was delayed to 7 August 2020 due to the pandemic.

MAFIA: DEFINITIVE EDITION~

The remake of the 2002 video game Mafia, the game takes you back to the 1930s, in the fictional city of Lost Heaven that is hit by The Great Depression. The storyline follows the rise and fall of mobster Tommy Angelo within the Salieri crime family. With a new feature of motorcycles in the series, the game is built with an expanded story and new assets. See yourself changing from Thomas Angelo: The Hardworking taxi-driver to Thomas Angelo: The Mafia.

The game is set to release on August 28, 2020.

GROUNDED~

Imagine yourself as a lilliput in the world of Gulliver’s Travels~ That’s exactly how this game is going to be. A world where players are reduced to the size of ants and must struggle to survive in a backyard filled with dangers. It’s a survival game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It can be played from a first-person as well as a third-person perspective. This game is not for people who cannot handle insects and bugs crawling up your sleeves. However, the game has an interesting accessibility feature for people with arachnophobia (severely scared of spiders!), allowing players to decide how scary the spiders can be in the game.

The game is set to release on July 28, 2020.

A TOTAL WAR SAGA: TROY~

The first in the award-winning strategy series to focus on the Bronze-age Mediterranean and the legendary twenty-year conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece, known as the Trojan War. The game might obviously focus on the historical Trojan war with new-inspired features. Experience your events and realize your legend as one of the eight iconic heroes. Conquer and build your vast empire with exceptional strategies that your mind creates.

The game is set to release in the year 2021.

DEATH STRANDING~

The name sounds morbid, although it might just be a little more interesting! Few of you must’ve already been playing it by now since it was released on July 14th, 2020. Numerous commentators also noted that the elements of the game resembled that of the Covid-19 pandemic. An action game developed by Kojima Productions, which has players controlling Sam Porter Bridges, a courier tasked with delivering supplies to the fractured and isolated colonies that remain and reconnecting them via a wireless communications network. The player’s main enemies include creatures related to ‘beached things’.

Mars to get a new visitor soon, from the United Arab Emirates!

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is gearing up to join the ranks of those few countries around the world, who have extended their reach to infinity and beyond! After six years of extensive research and development, the Middle Eastern country will launch its first interplanetary mission to Mars.

It is called the Emirates Mars Mission and the satellite will be launched on April 17, on top of a Japanese rocket. This will be the beginning of several other missions to Mars, including China’s orbiter, rover and lander launches on July 23. NASA is also in hot pursuit with its preparation to launch the Perseverance, its next rover. All these missions have a very small window of time, when  Earth and Mars come closest to one another on their orbits around the Sun. This planetary alignment only happens once every two years, so if any of these missions can’t launch this summer, they’ll have to wait until 2022 to try again.

The Emirates Mars Mission is especially important for the country, as it is viewed as a part of a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE, which is in December 2021. It was first announced in 2013 by UAE Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, when he asked the nation’s top space engineers to pull off the ambitious space mission by 2021 to commemorate the occasion.

The spacecraft is called Hope and aims to complement other studies going on about Mars. It is expected to give scientists a clearer picture of Mars’ lower atmosphere, which will help them understand the annual weather patterns. The UAE calls Hope “Mars’ first weather satellite” since it will monitor the weather throughout the day in as many locations as possible on Mars.

With a tight budget of just $200 million, the UAE had a tough job completing Hope on its own. To overcome this, The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, which built the Hope spacecraft, teamed up with the University of Colorado at Boulder — a college that’s been designing Martian instruments since the 1960s. It also received guidance from researchers at Arizona State University and the University of California, Berkeley throughout the course of the spacecraft’s development. NASA has also enabled communications with Hope for the Emirates, using its Deep Space Network (an existing network of antennas spread around the world).

The live counter for the launch of this spacecraft can be tracked on the official website of the Emirates Mars Mission. It is slated to be launched in the early morning hours on top of a Japanese H-IIA rocket out of the Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan.

Mercedes-Benz goes all touchscreen with the new MBUX

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the next generation of its in-car user interface system, the MBUX. It will debut in the 2021 S-Class and features a new interface. The German luxury carmaker has powered the MBUX with a new hardware suite that adds multiple features and functions across the car. The hardware suite includes a 320GB SSD, 16GB of RAM and 50 percent more processing power over its predecessor.

Some of these features include a pseudo-3D display technology behind the steering wheel, new personal profiles that the driver can access via a fingerprint sensor, facial recognition or voice commands. The hardware also improves the “Hey Mercedes” voice recognition system. The new MBUX minimizes the use of physical buttons and encourages the use of voice commands and quick access shortcuts.

Mercedes-Benz will debut the new MBUX with the 2021 S-Class. The luxury sedan will be equipped with a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen with haptic feedback, in a portrait orientation. The screen rises from the centre console, unlike the usual dashboard embedded position. It is easily accessible to the driver as it is placed just beside the steering wheel. Mercedes-Benz has also made the overall interaction sleeker by reducing 27 “hard keys” in the new S-Class.

Users can now save personalized preferences in the new MBUX, which include settings like seat adjustment, interior lighting colour, and their favourite radio station, among others. These personal profiles can be enabled or disabled with the new security features and can also be loaded in other Mercedes-Benz cars that feature the new MBUX.

Drivers get access to a large, rounded rectangular floating display. It is the car’s fully digital instrument cluster offers the driver a chance to customise the colour, layout, and overall presentation of information like speed, power output, and driver assistance features.

Sajjad Khan, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG, CASE says, “Our overarching goal is to offer the utmost in comfort, personalization and convenience for our customers. A system that is more detailed, thoughtful and individual than ever before. So I would even call it My MBUX. Through even more ease-of-use, our customers gain extra time and added value. This goes beyond just displays and voice control. My MBUX now becomes the spinal cord, or even the central brain of the vehicle.”

The MBUX has the capability of creating a three-dimensional impression of the objects on the screen. It can do so with the help of facial recognition cameras and something that Mercedes-Benz calls an “auto-stereoscopic display”. The screen of the MBUX is a combination of standard LCD display and “a special pixel structure and a controllable LCD aperture grille” that makes the driver’s left and right eyes see “different pixels of the LCD.”

Updates to the MBUX software include recognition of up to 20 different commands triggered by saying “Hey Mercedes” as well as support of 27 languages. The S-Class is also expected to feature as many as three screens in the rear that will be connected to the infotainment system in the front. This will allow passengers in the back to share content between the screens along with selecting or changing the navigation route.  Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the new S-Class in September 2021.

This is how robotics will influence future medicine.

It is no secret that robots are being extensively researched upon and their influence in our daily life is increasing considerably. What were earlier mere objects of humour and ridicule are now full-fledged artificially intelligent entities. While robotics is a vast subject, its knowledge is applied across various other branches of science.

Among those branches is medicine. It has seen the increased involvement of robotics both on the macro and micro scale. While there are sophisticated machines that perform complex surgeries without mistakes, there are also nanorobots that can be embedded in a body for certain enhancement. While that sounds a little fantasy-like, there is no denying that robotics is fast becoming an integral part of medicine.

As mentioned earlier, micro- and nanorobots are being developed to be used as a faster treatment method. As per sciencemag, Micro- and nanorobots are small, motile devices that convert chemical or/and physical energy into mechanical actuation and have the potential to enable minimally invasive treatment and targeted drug/cell delivery with high precision. For active drug delivery strategies, these machines can locally concentrate therapeutic payload around pathological sites to reduce the dose of administrated drugs and their systemic side effects. Simply put, they intelligently target the affected area and deliver the dose without side effects.

Another kind of robots used in medicine are called ‘telepresence’ robots. These robots emulate the presence of a doctor or surgeon, who is on call via the robot. He can the remotely answer questions and help share his knowledge and experience with others. There are also surgical robots that can be controlled remotely via a console to help the surgeon perform even better.

Prosthesis also has a bright future in robotics. Amputees were earlier restricted to wearing fake replicas or look-alike of their limbs. However, modern medicine has allowed robotic prosthetic to be grafted to amputees, helping them to not only regain their lost abilities but enhance them considerably.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) states that there are also rehabilitation robots. These robots can be programmed to adapt to the condition of each patient as they recover from strokes, traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries, or neurobehavioral or neuromuscular diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Robotics is an ever-evolving subject and it is surely going to improve the medicinal scenario significantly. It remains to be seen if robotics can be (or will be) used to enhance physical capabilities or add prosthetic limbs to the natural ones. If that day comes, it will mark the beginning of Superheroes on this planet! Come to think of it, somebody can create an exosuit like Doctor Octopus, Black Panther or even Mysterio! The possibilities of human enhancement with the help of robotics is practically endless.

Got a gaming smartphone? Here’s how you can make the best use of it

Mobile phones have come a long way from being clunky pieces of metal and plastic to being the symbol cutting-edge technology and electronic performance. While almost every modern mobile phone share certain qualities, there are some who stand head and shoulders above the rest. These are smartphones that, apart from performing the usual functions, also double up as a portable console. Gone are the days when an avid gamer had to have multiple devices to play games to his heart’s content. So, if you are a gamer by heart, here’s how you can make the best use of your gaming smartphone.

1. Use the Gaming Mode

This one should be a no-brainer if you have purchased a gaming smartphone. While most phones have private modes to customize your notifications, the Gaming Mode does much more. It not only minimizes your notifications, but also optimizes your RAM and memory support. This gives a huge performance boost to your game and it can be played in a better resolution.

2. Keep your phone up-to-date

Smartphones are notorious for getting slow over time. However, companies keep sending over-the-air (OTA) updates to improve the phone and provide patches for your software. Though the phone notifies you in case of a new system update, it is always good to manually scroll through the settings and check for any system updates. This helps the gaming smartphone stay at the top of the game and offer the best performance.

3. Purchase a wireless controller

Modern games have evolved from 2D side-scrolling platformers to ultra-realistic 3D open worlds. Similarly, mobile gaming has also seen the shift from arcade games like Subway Surfer and Fruit Ninja to full-blown simulators and console ports. While almost all games can be played flawlessly using the touchscreen, the essence of some games is in the controller. Games like simulators, FPS or even some arcades perform much better and offer greater fun when played with a wireless controller. This controller can be connected to the gaming smartphone via Bluetooth and can be used to play multiple games. Some games offer inbuilt controller support, while others require an external key mapping software.

4. Consider using emulators

If you are an old-school gamer you might miss the days of Sony’s Playstation or Nintendo’s DS entertainment systems. Well, lucky for you, gaming smartphones have evolved to double up as your choice of console. No, you cannot insert your console’s disk in the phone, but you can play those games in another way. There are many emulators available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store that offer console quality gaming on your smartphone. You can either opt for free ones like PPSSPP or go for paid ones like DraStic. The former one allows you to play any Playstation Portable (PSP) while the latter one runs Nintendo DS games. Emulators also let you play games that are otherwise unavailable on gaming smartphones, such as console exclusives.

Thus, you can make the best use of your gaming smartphone and optimize your gaming experience.
