Vivo V20: Truly Delights Every Moment

Vivo v20 review

Vivo brought the V20 to the Indian market earlier this month priced at INR 24,990 for the 8/126GB variant and INR 27,990 for the 8/256GB variant. The Vivo V20 is a selfie-centric smartphone highlighting an enormous 44 MP front camera with an ‘Eye-Focus’ tracking system that helps in better autofocusing while shooting videos. With the rise of content creation platforms and its increasing popularity among the Indian audience, this smartphone is intensely targeted to content creators who are in need to capture every moment on the go.

The USP of this smartphone is definitely its 44MP selfie cam with Eye Autofocus which tracks and focuses on the eye of the user irrespective of their movement and clicks pin-sharp images and videos. To test this feature, we tried clicking a few selfies and videos and I must say, they turned out to be just perfect – ready to upload on the gram with no filter needed. The colors came out very natural and not overblown or oversaturated. The V20 front camera also allows you to shoot Slo-Mo Selfie Videos, 4K Selfie Videos, and record with the front and rear camera at the same time with the help of Dual View Video.

If you’re someone who cares less about the best-in-class specs and simply want a good looking phone that fulfills all your requirements then this one is for you! The sunset melody variant we which have looked pretty fancy with a gradient finish shows all sorts of colors blue, purple, orange, and pink as light hits the surface at different angles. The back panel is a sort of matte finish that doesn’t attract as many fingerprint smears as glossy panels do. The phone is also very lightweight and sleek weighing 172 grams and has a thickness of 7.48mm.

The V20 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC comes running Android 11 out-of-the-box on top of Vivo’s in-house OS- FunTouch OS 11. The UI feels less cluttered, more intuitive, and user-friendly. The smartphone flaunts a 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen which comes with a tall 20:9 aspect ratio and supports HDR10. All of this is backed by 4000 mAh of battery and comes with a 33W fast charger in the box that can charge the device to 100% within an hour. Out of all the specs, a drawback I noticed is the outdated refresh rate panel of 60Hz.

Overall, the V20 is for someone who fancies a good looking phone and a great camera performance over best-in-class specs. It’s a mid-range device targeted to content creators who constantly shoot videos/images from their phone’s selfie camera. But, if you’re someone who prefers a better overall performance then you might want to consider the OnePlus Nord or Samsung Galaxy M51 which are also at the same price point.
