Abhi and Niyu | Changemaker | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

We feel right now people are able to focus more on the content rather than the cosmetic aspects of their art. Because of COVID-19 all the creators are stuck at home and they’re compelled to make content from their homes. Yet, the people who are able to surpass these challenges of these tough times are the ones who stand out.

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

You have to keep experimenting. People think that there’s a formula for being successful on social media but we don’t think there is one. A creator has to keep trying new things and listen to their audience.

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Niyu: I would love to be a Marine Biologist as I love being near water. Scuba diving and seeing a whale while underwater is my biggest dream.

Abhi: In a parallel universe I would be a vocalist in a band. I have tried singing and learning musical instruments but I didn’t pursue it sincerely. Music transcends languages and it connects hearts. I would’ve loved to be a musician for sure.

Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?

If you’re asking about a technology that doesn’t exist in the real world then definitely a time machine.

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

It’s difficult to pick one because there are so many. Last year, we made a video on Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols and it was the first video that went truly viral. One of the followers had booked an idol with paint on it, which he didn’t know consists of lead. When we informed him about this, he immediately opted for a paint-free idol. We say “Farak Padta Hai” (It makes a difference) and he truly proved it.

Ex: What does success mean to you?

  • Freedom – to live the life you want to live
  • Respect – from the people who matter to us
  • Integrity – because self-respect matters more than any other respect

Ex: What was the thought process behind this journey?

We wanted to have a voice. We wanted to focus on a solution-based approach to everyday living. We are tired of people complaining all the time about things that are wrong in India. Complaining is easy, but going one step beyond and asking “hum kya kar sakte hain” (what can we do) is hard. It needs thinking, it takes time. We wanted to show that small things can make a difference.

Gaurav Taneja | Health and Fitness | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Gaurav: YouTube has become a place where creators put well polished videos. The audience cannot determine which videos are an individual’s work
and which have been produced by an entire team. This has been the
most significant evolution as per me

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Gaurav: Numbers can be deceiving.

Ex:  A technology you wished you’d invented?

Gaurav: A technology which would allow people to eat as much fatty food as they like while still remaining lean.

Ex:  Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter. How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Gaurav: You have to accept that it is a part of life. If you get 99% love you will get 1% hate and you have to go with it.

Ex: What does success mean to you?

Gaurav: Being happy with the family and getting to spend time with them. But conventional success like having a good job, good salary and a good lifestyle is also important, so I think success for me is a balance of both.

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Gaurav: I would like to run a restaurant & bar with my wife where I would like to serve some really good tea alongside the beach.

Malini Agarwal | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Malini: Over the last decade, I have seen it change and evolve so much. People have gone from bloggers influencers to content creators and there are so many different kinds of creators now. It’s quite fantastic to see the range and I’m very happy to have carved a path into this as an actual viable career.

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Malini:  I think the main thing about social media platforms that every influencer should know is that authenticity is absolutely crucial.

Ex:  What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Malini: Growing up I always thought I’d be a criminal lawyer because my sister’s a lawyer too!

Ex:  A technology you wished you’d invented?

Malini: Pretty much everything but it would be really cool to have invented the internet.

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Malini: I was once at this bar called Rasta and a girl came up to me who I’ve never met before and said thank you for Malini’s Girl Tribe because it really helped her get out of was depression after 3 weeks!

Ex:  What does success mean to you?

Malini: To me success is happiness there’s no amount of money or fame that can get you happiness so if you’re truly happy then I think that means you are successful in every way.

Ex:  Do you think Influencer Marketing is a fad? Where do you see this space in years to come?

Malini: I think influencer marketing is a new reality and I think it’s really resonating with people. I don’t see it going away anytime soon but I do see it evolving.

Ex: What was the thought process behind this journey?

Malini: You know the great thing is that I had no idea and people always ask me how did I build this brand or this career. I actually tried a lot of different things; being a dancer, being an RJ working at MTV and Channel V, and digital content which actually now looking back were all the tools that I needed to be able to start my own entrepreneurial journey. I love this Japanese concept of ‘ikigai’ which means your true passion lies at the center of 4 things: what you love to do, what you’re good at doing, what you can get paid to do and what the world needs.

Ted The Stoner | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Ted The Stoner: Though the statement cannot be generalized, there is a lot of responsibility when it comes to posting anything on the internet now. There is a lot of accountability & that is definitely a good thing. On the contrary, with easy access to the internet, there is also a rise in the number of cases of cyberbullying and incessant trolling towards anybody with a different
opinion.

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Ted The Stoner: I don’t think influencers have any upper hand when it comes to knowing things about anything that is open to all. The only reason an artist/influencer might have an upper hand over someone would be because they would spend more time researching something about social media since it is an important part of their lives.

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Ted The Stoner: I guess I’d be a farmer with a nice little farm and a couple of animals where I can just grow my own food and not worry about the world.

Ex: If you were stranded on an island, what are the 3 gadgets you’d take along?

Ted The Stoner: I’ll have a word with Tony Stark and get back to you.

Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?

Ted The Stoner: A mind control device that can be used on Mumbai rickshaw drivers who keep rejecting us without even listening to the proposed destination. Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter.

Ex: How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Ted The Stoner: The best way to deal with vulnerabilities as an influencer is to be honest with your audience about your vulnerability. At times, we underestimate the good in the world. The audience you build on your page is like an extended family. The best way is to let them see you for what you are, who you are instead of faking it just because it seems like a cooler option.

Ex: What does success mean to you?

Ted The Stoner: Being happy and helping others be happy.

Ex: Which people or books have had the greatest impact on your growth, and why?

Ted The Stoner: People who have had the greatest impact on my life would be the life of Swami Vivekananda. A lot of good principles to learn.

Ex: What was the thought process behind this journey?

Ted The Stoner: The thought process was very simple. Making people happy and helping them in every possible way. I’m glad and I feel content because I can see that happening everyday.

Prajakta Koli | Editor’s Choice | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Prajakta: I think the sheer magnanimity of the platform speaks for itself. When I started 5 years ago, we did not see this coming. Nobody knew the digital space would boom like this in every corner of our country. That is the biggest change I have seen. Now there are more consumers and even more creators coming on to the platform everyday.

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Prajakta: Know what is the best time to post that’ll give you the most engagement. Consistency is key and content is king at the end of the day. Also, engaging with your audience makes all the difference.

Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?

Prajakta: An app that deletes your account if you baselessly spew hate at people on the internet.

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Prajakta: Running into viewers at malls and airports or reading the amazing letters they write to me is by far the best thing about my job. But I remember, a viewer once came up to me at an event to talk about how she gave up on waxing her legs and accepted her body as is after listening to my song ‘SHAMELESS’. That was such an accomplishment!

Ex: What does success mean to you?

Prajakta: Seeing the people that matter to me happy.

Ex: Do you think Influencer Marketing is a fad? Where do you see this space in years to come?

Prajakta: Influencer marketing is definitely not a fad and is here to stay. Over the years brands have seen the connect influencers have with their audience. The brands are keen on tapping this bond and maximising visibility for their brand. So it is definitely here to stay wherein many brands are actively focussing on influencer marketing over mainstream conventional marketing techniques.

Trakin Tech | Arun Prabhudesai | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Arun: This space is continuously evolving. I got into blogging around 2007 with Trak.in and then in 2016, I started my Youtube Channel. One of the main reasons to get into Youtube was the changing content consumption habits of consumers. As content creators, we need to offer consumers what they want and the current scenario too might change soon!

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Arun: One insight that I want to offer is – look at your analytics. It tells you what appeals to your audience and what does not. Data Analytics plays a pivotal role in giving you insights into what needs to be done next!

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Arun: Radio Jockey! I have been fascinated with RJs all my life.

Arun: It’s yet to be invented.

Ex: Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter. How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Arun: Honesty and Transparency. It’s tough to be like that when you have millions of followers. But be honest to yourself and your followers.

Ex: Social media trolling is seeing an upward rise. Do you think this only increases with the popularity of an Influencer? How does one tackle this situation?

Arun: In my view, it is best to ignore because there will always be people who will troll you when you are an influence. Best thing is to develop a thick skin and not respond to trollers.
