Sejal Kumar | Fashion | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Sejal: Digital blogging space is constantly growing. Now, people are more accepting of this career path. Space has evolved immensely over the years as now, the audience is aware of the content they want to consume and thus, the creators are putting out as relatable, useful, and entertaining content they can. Earlier I would find it difficult to even explain my profession but now we are getting recognized even in traditional media which feels great!

Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?

Sejal: Airpods! I think they are such a good device for anyone! Creators especially! I’ve used them in a million different ways to create content

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Sejal: On a family trip on the train to Amritsar, this girl figured out which day I was leaving via my stories and somehow even my coach reading the names on the train! She came to our seats and said ‘yes finally found you!’ My grandparents were so shocked and I was too! She had an adorable scrapbook with her with my pictures that I signed and I was in complete awe. BUT thank god this wasn’t a creepy guy, I’ve been careful with my stories since then!

Ex: Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter. How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Sejal: It is not easy. I love my job and I am grateful for everyone that loves my work but there are people who will always want to bring you down. Most of the time, I try to not let the hate get to me. I think taking a break, meditating, and believing in yourself is the only way ahead!

What does success mean to you?

Sejal: A side product of doing something that fulfills me and keeps going every day, even if some days are bad.

Ex: As Fashion-Tech is on the rise, what is your take on this new style of couture? Do you think it’s here to stay?

Sejal: Fashion and Tech are the two things I love. I think it’s a beautiful combination. Yes, it is here to stay. I am continually impressed with how creative people get day by day.

Gaurav Taneja | Health and Fitness | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Gaurav: YouTube has become a place where creators put well polished videos. The audience cannot determine which videos are an individual’s work
and which have been produced by an entire team. This has been the
most significant evolution as per me

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Gaurav: Numbers can be deceiving.

Ex:  A technology you wished you’d invented?

Gaurav: A technology which would allow people to eat as much fatty food as they like while still remaining lean.

Ex:  Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter. How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Gaurav: You have to accept that it is a part of life. If you get 99% love you will get 1% hate and you have to go with it.

Ex: What does success mean to you?

Gaurav: Being happy with the family and getting to spend time with them. But conventional success like having a good job, good salary and a good lifestyle is also important, so I think success for me is a balance of both.

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Gaurav: I would like to run a restaurant & bar with my wife where I would like to serve some really good tea alongside the beach.

Malini Agarwal | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Malini: Over the last decade, I have seen it change and evolve so much. People have gone from bloggers influencers to content creators and there are so many different kinds of creators now. It’s quite fantastic to see the range and I’m very happy to have carved a path into this as an actual viable career.

Ex: Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Malini:  I think the main thing about social media platforms that every influencer should know is that authenticity is absolutely crucial.

Ex:  What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Malini: Growing up I always thought I’d be a criminal lawyer because my sister’s a lawyer too!

Ex:  A technology you wished you’d invented?

Malini: Pretty much everything but it would be really cool to have invented the internet.

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Malini: I was once at this bar called Rasta and a girl came up to me who I’ve never met before and said thank you for Malini’s Girl Tribe because it really helped her get out of was depression after 3 weeks!

Ex:  What does success mean to you?

Malini: To me success is happiness there’s no amount of money or fame that can get you happiness so if you’re truly happy then I think that means you are successful in every way.

Ex:  Do you think Influencer Marketing is a fad? Where do you see this space in years to come?

Malini: I think influencer marketing is a new reality and I think it’s really resonating with people. I don’t see it going away anytime soon but I do see it evolving.

Ex: What was the thought process behind this journey?

Malini: You know the great thing is that I had no idea and people always ask me how did I build this brand or this career. I actually tried a lot of different things; being a dancer, being an RJ working at MTV and Channel V, and digital content which actually now looking back were all the tools that I needed to be able to start my own entrepreneurial journey. I love this Japanese concept of ‘ikigai’ which means your true passion lies at the center of 4 things: what you love to do, what you’re good at doing, what you can get paid to do and what the world needs.

Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex:  Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Tanvi : I still remember when there was no jio internet we bloggers & YouTubers were struggling for views, hardly people used to read a blog or watch videos on the internet because the internet cost was very high but when jio came to market with low-cost internet, it changed the entire digital blogging space completely, so yeah big thanks to jio!

Ex:  Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Tanvi : The insight would be that creating content is not as easy as it looks . We spend hours in shooting a 15 second or 60 second video and most of the time it’s a one human show!

Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)

Tanvi :  A Fashion Designer or an Actress / Singer.

Ex: If you were stranded on an island, what are the 3 gadgets you’d take along?

Tanvi : My Ipod , Headphones and a Camera.

Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?

Tanvi : It’s not yet invented (at least that’s what we think ) – A Time Machine!

Ex: What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Tanvi : A fan told me a while ago how my posts and my words helped her come out of her depression and step out of the house after months ! To be able to touch a life that way…makes me so grateful and emotional.

Ex: Social Media is known to expose vulnerabilities, with influencers being at the epicenter. How do you deal with the dark side that comes with the medium?

Tanvi : I deal with this by constantly being open and talking about my vulnerabilities! Social Media is in fact the best space to BE YOU. The more you open up to people about your struggles, the more you’re connectable with them .

Ex: What does success mean to you?

Tanvi : To be happy and for more people to know, understand and support my work.

Ex: What was the thought process behind this journey?

Tanvi : I wanted to make people comfortable and happy in their skin.

The Fluence of Influencers September 2020

The viral issue in the new normal. Last year, we started one of our strongest IPs, where we curated 250 content creators who in their category had been relevant, with a meaningful fan following and put them up for public voting to choose “The Top 100” Class of 2019. Almost immediately, we had a huge spike in our web traffic; touching 500k hits daily as a consequence of these content creators who had influenced their fans to go and vote. This is when realisation dawned that they are real influencers! What came next was our first-ever Influencex awards where the “Top 100” had flown in from different parts of the country for the “Influencex” awards night. The vibe was strictly informal and it soon converted to one big party. The celebration still continues and thereafter we started a dedicated “Influencer marketing Division” which has been busy ever since with curating and executing huge influencer marketing campaigns.

This year we repeated last year’s event, albeit with a twist. Our website continued to spike during the voting days to 5000%. Nothing changed. Only the awards went virtual right from this screen. We fixed one day and all the winners came together one by one. It was a field day chatting on Zoom sessions with 15 winners across – Entertainment, Fitness, Tech, Travel, Fashion, Lifestyle, Social Media ,Beauty, Changemaker, Gaming, Food and Automobile. All of them have a few things in common, they have huge fan bases – If I put all the following of only these 15 of them it would stack up to 50 Million+. Secondly, they are all chilled out and know what they are doing and come up trial and error and thirdly, humble with feet on the ground.

The entire day-long session has been curated and cut to feel like an awards ceremony into a 30-minute session and is resting pretty at our channel youtube.com/exhibitmagazine. The process of choosing the winners is also straight forward. There is no jury round and it’s up for public voting with some tech in play which will map votes to the unique IP and the results have always been “on display” mode since day one of voting.

Here’s to the new era of Infleuncers and marketers to have a new honorific in their blue book which has quickly flipped pages to the fore of their communication strategies and medium.

Sarah Hussain | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?

Sarah: I started 4 years ago, where the space of digital marketing was not so solid, and Instagram/YouTube bloggers were just treated with freebies and free lunches. However, no people like me are making it a career choice, people have started recognizing it, brands want their products to be endorsed by bloggers, and it works as a regular creative business.

Ex:  Can you give us an insight into social media platforms that only an Influencer can know?

Sarah: I feel social media is one place for expression which gives every creator its chance to express their creativity. If you’re good at something the app can make you a star, you don’t need to be super rich or an influential person, social media recognizes talent faster than any other platform.

Ex:  A technology you wished you’d invented?

Sarah: To make all my videos viral.

Ex:  What’s been your favorite encounter with a fan so far? (DMs included!)

Sarah: There have been many really, but once a man msged me that he named her daughter Sarah, because he wants her to become like me, I was really touched by it.

Ex:  What does success mean to you?

Sarah: Success is never a target, for me success is waking up everyday, making content, making my followers happy and having a good night’s sleep. It’s constant. I believe hard work is the way to success.

Ex: Do you think Influencer Marketing is a fad? Where do you see this space in years to come?

Sarah: I don’t think social media is going anywhere, it’s a super growing field. I see this field getting more popular than movies in the years to come.

Ex: Which is that one dish or cuisine that you haven’t tried yet but are looking forward to?

Sarah: I really want to try authentic Spanish and Andhra Food.

Ex:  What do you do to make your content unique from others?

Sarah: Originality and just sheer love for what I do.

Ankit Panth | Top 100 | Influncex’20

Ex: Tell us about a change you’ve seen in the digital blogging space since you started out your journey? How has this space evolved?
Ankit: A lot of upcoming gamers who see me as a role model started asking me to stream so that they can learn by watching me play and that’s when I decided to start streaming. It started from one person watching to a few hundred and has kept increasing. Today my live streams and my videos are being shared by fans to convince their parents that gaming can be taken as a career. I feel happy to see that even my fans’ parents have started trusting me.
Ex: What would be your calling in a parallel universe? (Alternate career options)
Ankit: I feel I would become a DJ or an actor. I love music and acting.
Ex: If you were stranded on an island, what are the 3 gadgets you’d take along?
Ankit: My gaming laptop, my wireless gaming headset, and my go pro camera.
Ex: A technology you wished you’d invented?
Ankit: Equipment that needs 1 person to pedal and can create enough electricity to run light, water pump, and basic necessary things for an entire village!
Ex: Social media trolling is seeing an upward rise. Do you think this only increases with the popularity of an Influencer? How does one tackle this situation?
Ankit: I feel people have questions most of the time and if you have the answers, it doesn’t lead to trolling. In my case, I reply to most of the comments and I know my fans. If I see an unknown trying to get attention, I just block them straight away.
Ex: What does success mean to you? –
Ankit: Getting up in the morning and seeing my mom smile because she doesn’t have to worry about anything anymore.
Ex: Do you think Influencer Marketing is a fad? Where do you see this space in years to come?
Ankit: It’s going to keep growing, I feel. Everyone is enjoying it and that’s the reason you see so many platforms and so many influencers. Everyone is growing and in different fields.
Ex: Which three things does someone starting in the gaming industry need to know?
Ankit: It’s not easy, be patient. Getting a gaming pc does not mean that you have arrived. It will take time and a lot of hard work.
Ex: What would you say is the biggest challenge for a gaming influencer?
Ankit: To build his or her community the way he or she wants to and stick with it.
