Instagram’s Security Checkup Feature For Hacked Accounts

With cyber-crimes and hacking incidents on the rise more than ever before, Instagram is rolling out a new security check in the app, which aims to keep users’ Instagram accounts safe and secure. The Facebook-owned social media app will prompt users with previously compromised accounts to update their profile info and settings.

Instagram users were recently exposed to a text scam that put their accounts at risk in the hands of hackers. In April this year, a Facebook data hack even put CEO Mark Zukerberg into a severe cyber threat. In a similar series of events, Twitter was also left to deal with a massive Bitcoin scam last year, where few users had their private messages accessed.

Today, the social media giant announced a security checkup, aiming towards users whose connected email address or phone number was changed recently, resulting from potential hack rather than their actions.

The new Security Checkup feature will guide users through various security steps, including confirming accounts that share login information, reviewing profile information and login activity, and keeping up-to-date recovery contact information. Once the user completes the Security Checkup procedures, the account will be much safer and more protected against future cyber attacks.

Stay Safe

A recent wave of password reset emails has made its way into people’s DMs. These messages claim to be directly from Instagram to get people to share their passwords. Instagram issued a reminder stating that if any user receives direct messages claiming to be from Instagram, it is most likely not them.

“Instagram will never send you a DM: Over the past few months, we’ve seen a rise in malicious accounts DMing people to try and access sensitive information like account passwords. They may tell you that your account is at risk of being banned, that you are violating our policies around intellectual property, or that your photos are being shared elsewhere. These messages are often scams and violate our policies.”

Instead, Instagram says that they will do it via Email if they ever want to reach you. To review authentic communication from Instagram, one can go to the ‘Emails from Instagram’ tabs in their settings.

Hacks and scams are common nowadays, and it is essential to keep your data safe online. One should refrain from putting up useful or personal information on the web as much as one could. Fortunately, social media apps are adding security features to make the user experience more secure.

Samsung TV Plus Streaming Service Now Available On Web For Free!

Samsung’s free and linear video streaming service that was previously available exclusively on Samsung’s TV and devices is now widely accessible on the web to just about anyone.

The South Korean tech giant did not make any formal announcements about its web version. However, it might be a little too late to move into the video streaming coliseum, considering its other streaming rivals have already made a giant leap in the market.

How To Access Samsung TV Plus Web Service?

To access Samsung’s free streaming service, you can visit samsungtvplus.com using any browser via desktop, laptop, mobile, tablet, or any other smart display. The interface lists several channels divided into different genres such as comedy, crime, entertainment, food, game shows, international, kids, movies, news, sports, travel, and more. You can also choose the resolution up to 4K and opt for subtitles depending upon your region and language preferences.

You don’t need to set up any payment option as the streaming service is free of any cost. Samsung launched TV Plus in 2016, and over 50 million smart TVs worldwide now have access to its services. It is available in 23 countries, including Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, and India.

Competition

Samsung had a soft launch of its streaming service’s web expansion and started with zero fanfare. Sang Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics, confirmed to Protocol that the company broadcasts billions of minutes every month. Though its reach has been limited to Samsung users, it remains to be seen whether the latest web expansion can add any substantial numbers to its services.

The company is now in direct competition with other free video streaming services such as Pluto TV and Tubi. Samsung has also added casting support for Chromecast devices, but whether the company plans to make it available as an app on other innovative TV platforms is, again, a mystery!

Artificial Intelligence Model to Evaluate Universe’s Shape

How to kill Thanos? Time GPS. Who created Time GPS? Tony Stark, with the assistance of Jarvis. Who’s Jarvis? An AI system built by Mr Stark. Imagine what it takes to defeat super planetary devils. Well, AI has the potential to showcase what it can do for you and the entire humanity. Now, AI has just done some more wonders by scrounging the shape of the Universe through different algorithms, computational and astronomical rules. Well, if you are a space tech nerd, you know that it is not easy for artificial intelligence to knock on the doors of heaven and learn from Albert Einstein his Theory of Relativity. This article will help you know how artificial intelligence helped evaluate this Universe’s shape and what it means to us.

What’s the news about this artificial intelligence technique?

The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan devised an AI model through which they calculated and verified the shape of the Universe. This model helped to segregate the shape noise (the one that occurs due to gravitational lensing distortion) that their Subaru Telescope has collected in the past few years. In addition to this, Japanese astronomers took the help of the ATERUI II supercomputer to generate and create catalogs of more than 25000 galaxies. These catalogs were produced after studying the data obtained from the Subaru Telescope. In the end, to evaluate the perfect shape, the scientists and astronomers added the realist shape noise to the data sets. Then, the AI model was trained on the mock data to deliver the visual information related to the Universe’s shape.

Why is this breakthrough essential?

Tackling out the shape of the Universe is not a cup of coffee. You need to accumulate a bulk of data to ensure that you have an ample amount of observations regarding the planetary objects, galaxies, etc. Now, if you think that it’s easy, stop and assess it again. There’s nothing like ideal. Any event in the space may create noise. Due to unscrupulous signals that reach your end that can hamper all the observational facts and figures. Hence, you need to think about realistic options. And, lastly, you need to add all these data into a model. This model can analyze everything before coming out with concrete conclusions. These models should process fastly as the bulky data may give rise to latency. Therefore, you will like to have hi-speed supercomputers that have the capability to hold voluminous data.

Inference

The AI model created the visuals of the foreground of dark matter and other massive objects distributions. The observations clearly helped to understand the Universe’s shape complies with cosmological rules and conventions. Thank God! Einstein calculations have not kept the entire astronomical fraternity in the dark. But, with these details, there are several positives attached to it, one of which is to understand the evolution of the Universe through this. However, it is also important to understand whether the Big Bang or the death of a star to transform into a black hole created any sort of disturbance in shape. Hence, there is more to go even after understanding the shape of the Universe.

Samsung Galaxy M32 review: M-azing or M-bitious?

If there is a brand synonymous with variety, it has to be Samsung. Right from bank-breaking technological marvels to pocket-friendly mobiles, the Korean tech giant has something for everyone. Its latest offering is the Galaxy M32, which we recently got our hands on. With a price tag comfortably below the 20k mark, let’s see if this smartphone is yay or meh.

First impressions:

The box it comes in is quite simplistic and not extravagant, which is evident for a smartphone in this price range. Apart from the smartphone, users will also get a charger, ejector pin and manual.

The phone itself is Light Blue and gets 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Although it has a 16.21 cm display, its rounded corners reduce the overall size to 15.87 cm. Not that it is terrible, but it is still a compromise. That said, the Super AMOLED Display does ensure all details are vividly seen.

Usage:

Holding the phone is a breeze due to its ergonomic design. That said, I have always been against fingerprint sensors on the lock screen, but that’s just my personal opinion. The phone doesn’t make its weight felt despite being packed with intensive hardware.

The Galaxy M32 gets a quad-camera setup at the back, with a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 2-megapixel macro shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. A 20-megapixel front camera ensures the most explicit selfies with bright colours. The camera quality is not the best-in-class, but it offers everything to desire in its segment.

Verdict:

Samsung Galaxy M32 packs a 6,000mAh battery claimed to deliver up to 130 hours of music playback, 40 hours of talk time, or 25 hours of video playback on a single charge. The phone also supports 25W fast charging, though it is bundled with a 15W charger in the box.

With a starting price tag of Rs 13399, the phone seems like a good offer. But we’ll have to use it for a while before passing the final verdict!

How WhatsApp’s Yet To Be Launch Feature View Once Works?

Technology has helped humans to cross the boundaries of the planet, but at the same time, it emerges as a curse to humanity; most of the credit belongs to the people who use technology as a widget tool to leak someone’s confidential data.

Sharing someone’s personal images and videos was not a reliable option to exert an act of revenge, but people won’t understand it due to their small mindsets. Well, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature for you on the lines.

The latest feature, View Once, will help you to stay more secure after sharing your images and videos with someone. WhatsApp beta testers are currently testing the feature that enables users to send images or videos that the receivers can only view once. The feature is very similar to the one’s already available on social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.

The View Once feature from WhatsApp will enable the sender to see if the recipient has opened the media or not. Also, it permits the receiver to open the image or video only once, and it gets deleted after being opened, which plays a crucial role in terms of security, but the View Once feature is not completely secured; it comes with a few drawbacks.

One can take a screenshot of the received media on WhatsApp, and the sender will never know about it; but in contrast to what WhatsApp is offering, a similar feature in Snapchat even notifies you when the recipient took a screenshot of the image. The new View Once feature is available in group chats too, but the flaw is blocked contacts can still see single-use attachments, which raises an eye over its safety concern.

The feature will be soon available for all Android users if it performs well during the beta testing as it is being monitored for blemishes, but there’s no word on when the feature will roll out to iOS and desktop.

What Is Lossless & Spatial Audio In Apple Music?

Audiophiles were excited when Apple announced its lossless audio option and industry-leading high-resolution sound quality to subscribers with the addition of Spatial Audio that support Dolby Atmos, but how many of us truly know about its actual definition and purpose? How much better is it than what you’re currently listening to? The answers are a little more involved.

Lossless Audio:

Music in modern times has often been all about innovation, and with every other launch, it offers sharper results. Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC), which helps preserve every bit of the original audio file.

The lossless format can compress the silences to almost zero space while maintaining all sound data as their name implies, making them smaller than uncompressed files and offers Apple Music subscribers the exact same thing that the artists created in the studio. The higher bitrate will help the digital audio file to sound more reliable and accurate. The bitrate of a standard lossless audio track is around 1,411 kbps which is more than four times the audio quality of an MP3 file with a bitrate of 320 kbps.

Lossless audio is available on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV 4K. The company will add an entire Apple Music catalogue of over 75 million tracks available in Lossless Audio by the end of 2021.

How to use Lossless Audio service on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Go to Settings > Music
  2. Tap Audio Quality
  3. Tap Lossless to switch it on or off. You can choose the audio quality for streaming and downloading audio from here.
  • Choose Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz
  • Choose Hi-Res Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/192 kHz

How to use Lossless Audio service on your Mac:

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. Choose Music > Preferences.
  3. Click the Playback tab.
  4. Under Audio Quality, select or unselect Lossless to switch it on or off. You can also change the settings for streaming and downloading lossless from here.
  • Choose Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz
  • Choose Hi-Res Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/192 kHz

Apple becomes the latest one to join the Lossless club along with companies like Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, Deezer, and Qobuz, who have already launched a lossless audio feature for their subscribers. Amazon Music HD offers its subscribers the experience to listen to “Ultra HD” (up to 24-bit/192kHz), while Tidal gives its HiFi subscribers the choice of listening to Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) certified tracks (up to 24-bit/96kHz).

Apple’s Spatial Audio:

Apple’s Spatial Audio was first introduced on its AirPods Pro earbuds in September 2020 with iOS 14 and has evolved tremendously over time. Recently, at WWDC, Apple brought Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos to Apple Music and made its greatest advancement ever in sound quality as listening to a song in Dolby Atmos is like travelling to another world.

Spatial audio is a 360-degree sound format that takes 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos signals and virtualises them into directional audio filters that surround you, making it seem you are in the heart of the action. Spatial audio recreates the audio experience of a cinema and makes watching movies with Apple products more immersive.

Apple Music and Dolby are making it easy for musicians, producers, and mix engineers to create songs in Dolby Atmos by transforming the boundary of music. Apple Music is also collaborating with artists and labels to add new releases and create music specifically for the Spatial Audio experience.

Currently, the service is supported in Apple TV 4K, Airpods & headphones with H1 or W1 chip and built-in speakers of the latest iPhone, iPad and Macs with M1 chips. However, Apple Music isn’t the first to introduce spatial audio service on Apple devices, as Tidal launched Atmos Music to Apple TV 4K back in May 2020.

How to listen to Dolby Atmos on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Update your iPhone or iPad to iOS or iPadOS 14.6.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Music.
  4. Under Audio, tap Dolby Atmos.
  5. Choose Automatic, Always-On, or turn Dolby Atmos off.

How to listen to Dolby Atmos on your Mac:

  1. Update your Mac to macOS 11.4.
  2. Open the Apple Music app.
  3. Choose Music > Preferences.
  4. Click the Playback tab.
  5. Choose Automatic, Always-On, or turn Dolby Atmos off.

The company is also bringing the Spatial Audio experience to FaceTime, its video conferencing app. Apple’s Spatial audio feature is yet to be available for its headphones as Apple is still working on the technology needs that’ll support head tracking. Still, at the same time, Sony’s Reality Audio 360 is available on its own headphones and high-end speakers.

The Cupertino based company loves music and always tries to offer the latest innovations to its consumers. Once Apple revolutionised the music experience by putting a thousand songs in your pocket with the launch of the iPod and iTunes, and now they are taking your music experience to another world with Lossless & Spatial Audio.

Epidemic, Endurance, and Exhibit!

When SpaceX’s latest launch, the SN8, burst into flames, millions of dollars evaporated but there was not a single wrinkle on Elon Musk’s forehead. In fact, the mad scientist went on to congratulate his team on the failure! That’s how the man is built; taking failures into his stride and on a mission to do the impossible. The idea of building a colony on Mars is the wildest and weirdest dream anyone can have, and if anyone has the ability to execute it in our lifetime, it is probably Musk. I have always been fascinated by him, his journey, his tweets, the hero of startups, and one crazy soul who does first, think later, and goes all in. Read his book, Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance and you will start believing even in Spiderman and Superman. Why Elon Musk, you ask? Because it’s that time of the year when you will be making new year resolutions, and in that it’s a must that you should slide in after you have browsed through our take on 31st parties in these Covid times.

The turn of the year always brings positivity, aspirations, and hope. 2021 will definitely go down the century as the year where hope for 7.5 billion people are all glued in for the vaccine, for the skies to open, to live freely, to stay alive! By this time, the preparations for CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas are in full swing, like many things now it’s a ritual which will be missed massively in fact for the first time ever since the first edition of Exhibit came about – 15 years ago.

Since then, we have seen a lot of highs and lows, though nothing as radical and life-changing as this pandemic. Nevertheless, it is our Nature to bounce back harder than we are hit and that’s exactly what we have done. We persevered through the toughest of times and faced the highest of pressures. But as they say, only the coal that can sustain the highest pressure turns into a diamond. It’s a wrapping issue of 2020, and we have just dropped our podcasts on Spotify and other platforms, next time give us a thumbs up, we will have plenty of conversations, tech hacks coming up there. Moving forward to the next year, all we can wish to carry forward from this year are the learnings, the lessons, and the alterations that we have voluntarily done to our lives. Otherwise, I think you all would pretty much agree that 2020 should have never existed!

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE reviewed

Flagship smartphones are often looked at as super desirable, super tech-laden, and super expensive technological marvels that only a few are fortunate enough to own. But with the launch of the Galaxy S20 FE, Korean smartphone giant Samsung seems keen on changing that perception. Essentially an affordable version of the company’s flagship S20, here is what we experienced with the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

First impressions:

To begin with, Samsung could not have made its intention of manufacturing the S20 FE clearer. I mean, the “FE” stands for Fan Edition. Of course, it is made for Samsung fans! Not just that, it also acts as a gateway to the premium range of Samsung smartphones. So smartphone enthusiasts, let loose!

The S20 FE is practically a Galaxy S20 which has been remodeled to cut down its price. It gets all the bells and whistles that the S20 has to offer, albeit in a budget-friendly avatar. It has a high-quality plastic back rather than the conventional glass panel, which increases its durability and damage resistance considerably. However, don’t let that mislead you into thinking that it is a cheaper phone to handle. It feels as crisp and premium to operate as its pricier siblings. Add to that support for Wireless PowerShare and IP68 water-resistance rating and you will begin to wonder if it really is a budget-friendly alternative.

What it offers and what it doesn’t:

Sticking to its minimalistic design, Samsung has just added two physical buttons; a volume rocker and a power button, which doubles up as quick Bixby access. The phone does not get a 3.5mm headphone jack, though its absence is not missed due to a pair of USB-C earbuds that come along in the box. But if you, like me, are an old-fashioned person, you would want a dedicated headphone jack. The SIM and microSD cards enter the phone from the top, while the back sports a rectangular camera array.

Camera and lenses:

As mentioned above, the rear has a rectangular camera array consisting of three cameras. The first is a 12MP wide-angle camera, followed by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom. Selfie lovers will absolutely swoon over the 32MP front camera! The camera also offers to 30x zoom, though it is only appreciable up to 10x. Post that, massive quality drop alert!

Display and core:

A 6.5-inch, 2K super AMOLED display greets you every time you boot up the phone. Samsung knows its audience to be a fan of large screens and well, this one is the “Fan Edition”, remember? It also gets a new 120Hz refresh rate mode that just makes everything smoother than it already is. And I mean really, really smooth! As an anecdote, the recently launched iPhone 12 also only gets a refresh rate of 60Hz. (In case you have an argument about Samsung vs Apple!)

The display shows content processed by an Exynos 990 processor, lifted directly from the Galaxy S20 Ultra! That, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage meant I could load the phone as much as I wanted, and it still had space for more! These configurations ensure that the phone does not slow down or lag whatsoever unless special efforts are taken to make it so. That said, it is definitely not a perfect phone, and the battery is one of its biggest shortcomings!

Battery backup:

Now, I might be a demanding user, but I like to explore a product fully before forming an opinion. The Galaxy S20 FE does pack a massive 4500mAh battery, but it failed to keep me company throughout the day. It could probably be because I was using it to the fullest, but it should still have lasted more than it did. Adding to that was the standard 15W charger that came in the box, which completely shattered my hopes of getting a fast charge. Even borrowing my friends’ 18W or 22W fast chargers did not help much!

Verdict:

Priced at Rs 49,999, the Galaxy S20 FE is the perfect choice for someone looking for the best of both worlds; the worlds being performance and price. For fans of long-lasting battery life, however, this one might be a close cut. Nevertheless, Samsung has ensured that a “budget flagship” is possible. Well done, Samsung!
