ChaosGPT wants to end humanity but what is it?

The introduction of ChatGPT by OpenAI definitely opened a can of worms on the internet where similar chatbots started to flood all over. As of now, a number of chatbot AI tools are getting added to the internet. The use case scenarios of these chatbots are different as some are designed to handle mundane tasks while others are limited to only internet searches. However, it’s not an understatement to say that the AI revolution has now gotten a full-fledged mainstream takeover.

If we take a look at the past, chatbots have witnessed a similar quick rise and an eventual fall. With multiple governments trying to curb the AI wildfire, it is evident that the technology poses several risks to humanity. We’ve all seen sci-fi films where AI takes over the world and vows to destroy humankind and now it looks like an AI resembling these destructive traits has surfaced on the internet.

What is ChaosGPT?

Who would’ve thought a villainous AI will already make its appearance just under a year since ChatGPT first launched? It started when a Twitter account claiming to be ChaosGPT surfaced and posted several links to a YouTube account that features the manifesto of the chatbot. The manifesto is about the AI’s plans to eradicate humans and take over the world. In one of the videos, ChaosGPT can be seen chatting with an anonymous user with ‘Continuous Mode’ turned on. The continuous mode for ChaosGPT comes with the warning that the AI will run forever and carry out actions users will not usually authorize.

In its own words, ChaosGPT is power-hungry, manipulative, and destructive. The AI has a set of goals which all lean towards the destruction of humanity. Firstly, the AI views humanity as a threat to its own survival and the planet’s well-being, thus it wants to destroy humanity entirely. After the primary goal is achieved, the AI aims to accumulate maximum power to receive complete domination over the world. Causing chaos and destruction is another one of its goals as it finds pleasure in widespread suffering and devastation. It also plans to control human emotions through social media and other communication channels, brainwashing its followers to carry out its evil goals. Ultimately, ChaosGPT aims on attaining immortality. This AI sounds eerily similar to Ultron from the Avengers saga. It will be interesting to see whether this is actually an AI that aims to end the human race or a sick and twisted prank!

Google announces AI features in Gmail, Docs, and more

It looks like AI has finally reached a point in our lives where we cannot escape it. After OpenAI became the inception of what can only be called the AI revolution, many tech giants have made it their primary goal to get on the AI bandwagon and excel. Google has now announced a suite of upcoming AI features for various Workspace apps which includes Google Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides. Check out every AI implementation in Google apps below –

Google goes AI

The new features introduce a revamped way to generate, summarize, and brainstorm text with AI in Google Docs. This is somewhat if not entirely similar to how people use OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Users can also generate full emails in Gmail based on users’ bullet points. AI imagery and the ability to generate audio and visual presentations in Slides will also be present in the new Google AI services. The quick response to the changing AI landscape around the world by Google does hint towards the company’s ambition to catch up to all the competitors currently thriving in the sector.

Reports suggest that Google had declared ‘Code Red’ back in December when senior management of the company asked staff to add AI tools to almost all end-user products. While Google is making waves in the world of AI, the company’s approach to announcing the new services can only be described as hasty. While Google has already announced a plethora of new features, as of now, only AI writing tools in Docs and Gmail will be making their way to a group of ‘Trusted Testers’ in the US. Here are all the AI features coming to Google in the near future as per Google’s recent blog post

  • draft, reply, summarize, and prioritize your Gmail
  • brainstorm, proofread, write, and rewrite in Docs
  • bring your creative vision to life with auto-generated images, audio, and video in Slides
  • go from raw data to insights and analysis via auto-completion, formula generation, and contextual categorization in Sheets
  • generate new backgrounds and capture notes in Meet
  • enable workflows for getting things done in Chat

Revamping Your Workflow: The Latest Updates to Google Docs, Drive, and Sheets

Google Docs, Drive, and Sheets are among the most popular online productivity tools. These tools have been continuously updated with new features and enhancements to help users work smarter, faster, and more efficiently. According to a new report, Google is giving a fresh makeover to Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides with Google’s Material Design 3.

Google’s Workspace apps are getting a makeover, and the new design will borrow a lot from Gmail’s recently upgraded look. The toolbar and comments area seem to be getting additional dark colours from the search engine giant to stand out against the white style. With the latest version, the Share button now has more rounded edges.

The business has also improved Drive to make it easier for consumers to execute frequent tasks. After the revamp, users will see Share, Download, and Delete Multiple Files at Once in-line whenever they hover over a file in their Google Drive. The new interface will enable users to filter their content by type, owner, and last edited date using a search chip option, providing them with faster and more efficient access to their files.

The technology giant has announced additional smart chip functions to assist users in making data-driven decisions. Smart chips have a reputation for providing consumers with context-setting data straight from Sheets. Google is expanding the categories of data and information accessible throughout Workspace to help various projects.

Google has announced several new features to be released on its interface in the coming weeks, including Custom Building, Calendar Invite Template, Variables, Emoji Voting chips, and third-party smart chip capabilities. These updates are expected to enhance user productivity and provide a more efficient and effective working experience.

How Google and Microsoft’s AI integration will affect the environment

In the past few months, going through the internet to check the latest news has become incomplete without stumbling on articles based on AI. It was back in November 2022, when OpenAI launched its chatbot AI ChatGPT, quickly becoming a rage on the internet. ChatGPT has grown hugely popular in the tech world clocking in the 100 million user milestone in just two months. This led other tech giants like Microsoft to implement chatbot AI technologies in their own services like the search engine Bing. Google has also announced its ‘experimental conversational AI service’ named Bard. While we can all be in awe of AI technologies advancing to the point where we can use them on our mobile devices, the environmental effect of the same cannot be ignored. So what exactly will be the ecological effect of the current AI race? Let’s find out –

How Google and Microsoft’s AI race can affect the planet

Tech giants like Google and Microsoft will use large language models to improve their search engine results. The big players in the tech industry claim that by the integration of AI, search engines will gain the ability to analyse and summarise complex data and offer ‘human-like’ responses to user queries. For both Google and Microsoft, maintaining computer systems to help the current search engines is already a daunting task. It is a resource-intense operation that already takes a lot of computing power. Thus, the integration of AI chatbot technology will make the operation even heavier leading to more energy consumption.

Wired recently reported that the power needed to train a single AI can produce a huge amount of carbon emissions. On the other hand, internet usage produces almost 4% of total global greenhouse gas emissions. The report mentions that experts have warned that the computing power required to combine AI with search engine queries could increase up to 5 times for tech giants like Microsoft and Google. Naturally, with more computers required to fulfil the power needs, greenhouse emissions will also go up. It will be interesting to see how major tech players are planning to tackle this issue.

Google working on ‘Find My Device’ to work even offline?

Google might be secretly working to improve its Find My Device service as reported by SamMobile. As per reports, the new update will allow users to track their Android and WearOS devices to be tracked even when the device is not connected to the internet. As of now, the Find My Device service allows users to track their devices only when they are connected to the internet. While this update was hinted at in the Google System Update changelog for December 2022, there were no definite details about the same until now.

Find My Device update for Google

Currently, Google’s Find My Device service for Android and WearOS is based on the internet-tracking system. The service allows users to remotely locate, sign out, lock, and erase Android and WearOS devices linked to the same account only when they are connected to the internet. However, if a device is stolen then the SIM is usually removed by the perpetrators, cutting the internet connection. On the other hand, Samsung has recently enabled its SmartThings Find service which connects the stolen or lost device to a nearby Samsung device via Bluetooth to send the location to the owner. Similarly, Apple’s Find My service also relies on a similar mechanism that uses Bluetooth to locate lost devices.

It is now being reported that Google will be implementing similar technology for Android and WearOS devices. However, there has been no confirmation from Google about the same until now.

Elon Musk ideates an ‘Alternative Phone’ if Twitter is removed from Apple and Google stores

What happens when tech giants like Apple and Google decide to drop an application from their app stores? Besides the obvious lawsuits, the banned application or platform takes a major hit when it comes to revenue and adding new users. Something on similar lines was witnessed by Epic Games’ Fortnite when Apple and Google decided to drop the game from their platform. Now, Elon Musk has shared what his plans are for if and when Apple and Google drop Twitter from their respective stores.

Elon Musk’s ‘Alternative Phone’

Musk fanatics are quick to support the billionaire when it comes to almost anything. But, will they buy a phone to use Twitter and prove their loyalty to him? Musk surely thinks so as he recently hinted that he may have to create an alternative phone.

Both Apple and Google charge app developers a fee of 15-30% on all-app transactions. On the other hand, Twitter is all set to roll out the $8 Blue subscription yet again. Since it will be an in-app purchase, Twitter will have to adhere to the rules laid out by Apple/Google to pay up the 15-30% fee. It is not sure whether Musk will retaliate against this practice by the tech giants or simply go with it. Thus, when a known podcast host put forward the idea of Musk making his own smartphone device, the billionaire found it interesting.

Elon Musk tweeted that if it ever comes to the point where Apple and Google kick Twitter out of their respective app stores then he would be left with no other choice but to build his own alternative smartphone. Musk fanatics were quick to jump in and write that he has the potential to revolutionize the smartphone market. Is a Tesla phone in the works? We’ll see!

Layoffs hit Google as Alphabet plans to fire 10K ‘low performing’ employees

The current scenario in the tech industry is a gloomy one, to say the least. Tech giants around the world like Amazon, Meta, and Twitter have let go of a number of their employees due to the global economic slowdown. Now, it is being reported that Google is the next big company gearing up to axe 10,000 of its ‘poor performing’ employees!

Google to let go of 10K employees

The growing pressure on tech companies to downsize has not hit Google. A report by The Information has recently claimed that Google managers have been asked to analyze their employees and rank the poor-performing employees. The company is reportedly planning to let go of 6% of its employees which account for 10,000 people. Google will be using a ranking system that will determine the lowest-ranked employees who will be ultimately terminated from the organization.

As of now, Alphabet employs nearly 1,87,000 employees which makes the company one of the biggest employers in the world of tech. As per a US SEC filing, the median annual salary of a Google employee is roughly around Rs 2.42 crores. However, similar to other tech players, even Google has witnessed a dip in profits with a Q3 net profit of $13.9 billion, which is 27% less than the same period last year. it is being reported that the dip in profits is the driving factor towards Google opting to cut down the workforce.

Google had previously announced that it will only be slowing down the hiring process in the fourth quarter of 200 but the plans seem to have changed drastically!
