OPPO Find N3 Flip Review: New Standard for Flip Phones?

Whether you like it or not, flip phones are here to stay! These devices are not just your typical phones but also extend to be a part of your style statement, building up to your ‘aesthetic’ as the young folks say now. However, there is one visible issue with all of the folding and flipping devices, the crease! The ugly visible crease on folding devices has been keeping me from having one as a daily driver but OPPO has gotten close to solving that issue. Not entirely, but it is a step in the right direction. So, how good is the latest flipping phone – OPPO Find N3 Flip? Let’s find out –

Design

This is a rather early rendition of flip phones in the market which limits all flip devices to pretty much look the same when it comes to the form factor. How well a manufacturer designs the upper cover element sets the device apart from all the similar-looking devices. The Find N3 Flip has a clear win in this department with the circular camera cutout called the ‘Cosmos Ring’ which compliments the overall design with flying colors. Special mention to the curved back here which OPPO claims is the most curved glass back panel among flip phones. It looks premium and gives a good in-hand feel. There’s also an alert slider here at the top left of the device which is sturdy and has a nice click to it. The vertical cover screen is a hit or miss as I would rather have a bigger screen on the cover than a small rectangular one. Overall, the design of the OPPO Find N3 Flip screams premium and is sure to attract a few eyeballs unless you decide to hide all that beauty under a pretty boring cover provided inside the box.

Displays

The cover screen of the OPPO Find 3 Flip is not criminally bad in its own right but falls short in comparison to the Moto Razr 40 Ultra. Once you’ve used a cover screen that spans across the entirety of the back cover and also allows you to operate all applications as you would on the front screen, it is difficult to go back to a vertical cover screen. Granted, this is the only flip phone equipped with a triple camera and a telephoto camera which takes up the real estate at the back but it is still underwhelming, also due to the presence of limited app support and slower refresh rate. What’s not disappointing is the 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen which stuns with its visuals. It is a vibrant screen that makes up for what is lost on the cover screen. What’s also impressive is how well OPPO has handled the crease management. We cannot have a flip device without any visible crease as of now but it’s not as apparent or offensive as other flip devices. Overall, the front display is a treat, and the cover display less much to be desired.

Performance

As one would expect with any flip device in 2023, the OPPO Find N3 Flip also comes with a flagship-grade processor. It is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 and I did not face any performance issues with the device during my testing. Shuttling between applications, clicking photos, watching videos, playing games, and more was a seamless experience without any hiccups which is also expected from a device with this chipset. What’s annoying is the inclusion of lockscreen wallpaper services and bloatware applications which actually hamper the user experience on the software side. One would expect at least premium-grade phones won’t be bombarded with bloatware but that’s certainly not the case here. This is one of the biggest batteries present in a flip device with 4300mAH capacity which can be juiced up with a 44W SUPERVOOC charger. The overall battery life of the Find N3 Flip is balanced. I could easily get through the day with moderate usage on a single charge and heavy users might have the same experience. The camera department is where this device shines and stands true to the OPPO legacy. It features a 50MP primary SONY IMX890 lens coupled with a 48MP ultra-wide and 32MP portrait cameras. It is capable of clicking some awesome shots with minimal loss of detail. Additionally, the FlexForm capture which allows users to capture selfies and shoot videos using the main camera setup is also a treat. The selfie camera here is a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor which is capable of clicking some vibrant shots. However, OPPO continues to use beautification filters by default on their devices which should not be the case. Overall, the OPPO Find N3 Flip is one of the best flip devices launched this year.

Verdict

OPPO Find N3 Flip strikes a balance between performance and aesthetics. It is a dependable device with a top-of-the-line chipset which ensures smooth performance. The software experience requires to be finessed out as the users who’ll pay the premium price should not be subjected to bloat applications.

MWC Recap: Best of Mobile World Congress 2023

Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 will go down in history as one of the busiest mobile conventions in several years. The pandemic surely took a toll on in-person events like CES and MWC in the past few years but 2023 saw a complete turnover. This year the MWC attracted over 88,500 attendees from 202 countries. GSMA Ltd’s CEO, John Hoffman revealed in an official statement that the support from partners, businesses, and policymakers exceeded their hopes and expectations. The vibrant display of mobile technology featured more than 2,400 exhibitors and over 1,00 speakers and thought leaders. With a saturation of almost every key player in the mobile industry, it was natural that the MWC brings about a slew of announcements and developments.

Be it Google, OnePlus or Motorola, MWC 2023 saw big brands making bigger splashes in the mobile arena. Granted, not all companies introduced new devices as they focused on the advancement of mobile technologies. However, these developments are worth looking out for tech enthusiasts out there. Here is Exhibit’s special recap of (almost) everything showcased at the MWC 2023 –

Xiaomi

Xiaomi brought its A-game during the MWC 2023 as it not just announced the global launch of the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series but also its Wireless AR Glass Discovery edition. Firstly, the company introduced the extensive lineup of the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series including Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Lite. Interestingly, only the Xiaomi 13 Pro has made its way to India at a price tag of Rs 79,999 and the rest of the lineup is yet to be announced in the country. The Xiaomi Wireless AR Glasses won’t be making it to the market anytime soon as they are a concept pair. They offer an immersive AR experience free of any wires and dongles. They feature two Micro OLED screens with a free-form light-guiding prism module that projects content in front of your eyes. The glasses are cool and futuristic, and we definitely cannot wait to see them in action.

OnePlus

OnePlus is currently basking in the glory of its recent OnePlus 11 series launch which is making waves around the world. OnePlus purists are happy at the company’s return to its roots offering flagship killer devices at competitive pricing. Adding ‘Cool’ to the fire, OnePlus introduced a new concept device which brings a closed-loop liquid cooling system to smartphones. OnePlus is calling this new cooling system ‘Active CryoFlux’ and claims the system can reduce the device temperature up to 2.1 degrees. The Active CryoFlux system is based on a ceramic piezoelectric micropump which circulates fluid through a series of tubes. The back cover of the concept phone is aesthetically pleasing as it allows users to see the tubing underneath which has been illuminated. OnePlus emphasized device cooling by introducing a 45W external liquid cooler which attaches to a smartphone and improves heat dissipation. The company claims that the external liquid cooler can reduce the phone temperature by 20 degrees. OnePlus has not announced whether it will be using the Active CryoFlux system in a production smartphone as not every concept makes it to the end consumer.

Google

Google was not expected to bring the heat with new hardware at MWC but it surely surprised everyone by announcing new Android features. Google introduced features page zoom on Chrome for Android and noise cancellation in Google Meet. Previously, if users were to pinch-to-zoom on Android, it would pinch the entire page. As of now, Chrome Beta users can pinch-to-zoom and only increase the size of the text, images, video, and more while still retaining the original page layout. Other features include freehand PDF annotations in Drive, faster pairing of earbuds on Chromebooks, Tap-to-pay animations in Wallet, new sounds and display mode for Wear OS and much more.

Motorola

Motorola had fans surprised as they unveiled their latest innovation at this year’s MWC. Motorola introduced the Moto Rizr at MWC which quickly became one of the most talked-about devices from the entire event. Moto Rizr is the world’s rollable smartphone featuring a 5-inch display that can be rolled up to a 6.5-inch display with just two taps. The device sticks to Moto’s staple pOLED display which expands vertically. The basic idea behind the device is to allow users to have a compact phone which can be extended when they need more screen space for content consumption, gaming and much more. Readers should note that the Moto Rizr will not be making its way to the market anytime soon as it is a prototype device.

TCL

Though TCL is not a big player in the Indian market, it holds a significant position on the global stage. At MWC 2023, TCL announced a bunch of budget devices exclusive to the US market and two new 11-inch tablets. The TCL 40 X brings capable specifications like Dimesnity 700, a 6.5-inch 90Hz LCD display and a 50MP primary camera at the price of $200. The company also introduced its cheapest 5G device with TCL 40 XE priced at just $170. All the new mobile devices introduced by TCL feature a waterdrop notch putting them in the budget category for the US market.

Tecno

Who would have thought that Tecno will take away all the attention from legacy players in the mobile arena? With its debut appearance at the MWC, Tecno debuted all guns blazing showcasing two new smartphones including the company’s first foldable smartphone, the Phantom V. The Tecno foldable device is also the world’s first foldable device to feature a left-right foldable design boasting the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset. The smartphone also sports a 5-lens camera system featuring a 50-MP primary sensor coupled with two lenses at the back and the front. It also introduced the MegaBook S1 laptop with 13th Gen Intel Core processors. Additionally, Tecno left no tables unturned unveiling TWS earbuds, a Wi-Fi security camera, and a Wi-Fi router at MWC.

OPPO

While the Find N2 Flip was OPPO’s premiere device to showcase at the MWC, it also unveiled a number of IoT devices like a Wi-Fi 6 router, Zero-Power Tag, MariSilicon Y Bluetooth audio SoC, Air Glass 2, and much more. The Find N2 Flip marks OPPO’s first-generation flip device featuring a 3.26-inch cover screen. It features a Hasselblad camera branding similar to the OnePlus flagship devices. One of the key elements of the N2 Flip is that it folds flat when closed. This ensures that nothing gets in between the screen when the device is in your pocket. The device comes with a large battery capacity and charges at 44W. While foldable devices are clearly a niche amongst tech enthusiasts, having more options never harmed anyone.

Realme

Realme launched its latest flagship device, the Realme GT3 at the MWC 2023. The GT3 comes equipped with 240W charging prowess making it one of the fastest charging devices in the world. It offers the maximum charging power possible under USB-C standards as it is equipped with three maxed-out charging chipsets which work together in achieving 240W charging power. Realme claims that the device’s 4600mAh battery can be charged up fully in just 9 minutes and 30 seconds.

Honor

Honor may have fallen in trouble in China and US legislations but that did not stop the company from bringing in the heat at the MWC. Honor took the stage to announce the global launch of its premium lineup – Magic5 Pro and Magic5. Both devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and support 66W wired charging. Honor also launched its first foldable device outside China titled – Magic.

OPPO Reno 8T 5G review: Eye Candy!

The month of February will be seeing a plethora of releases in the smartphone category. While OnePlus will be launching its much-awaited OnePlus 11, Samsung will be launching the S23 series. Between the noise of big releases, OPPO has found its own voice and launched the OPPO Reno 8T 5G. The Reno series has been OPPO’s midrange champion bringing capable devices at the apt price point. Keeping true to the Reno branding comes the 8T 5G which increases the style quotient to a considerable degree. Check out what we think about the OPPo Reno 8T 5G below –

OPPO Reno 8T specifications

The OPPO Reno 8T 5G comes with the budget king chipset – Snapdragon 695. It sports a 32MP selfie camera and 108MP primary camera coupled with a 2MP depth and a 40x microscopic lens. It comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and a slim 7.7mm size. Reno 8T 5G also flaunts a 120Hz refresh rate and a 4800mAh battery that is powered by 67W Supervooc charging. It comes with 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage options.

What’s Good

During our extensive testing of the device, the USP of the Reno 8T 5G was undoubtedly its slim design and curved display. There’s no doubt that the curved display screams flagship even in 2023 and OPPO implements it beautifully. it is not just how the display curves but also how well it performs. Watching YouTube videos and films on OTT is a treat on this device. There’s widevine L1 support here that allows users to stream HD content on Netflix/prime. The entertainment experience on this device is only made better with its stereo speakers and the Loud ultra volume mode that boosts the audio level to 200, this is the first time I’ve seen a device do this and I am blown away.

The camera here is a 108mp primary portrait camera coupled with 2mp depth and 40x microlens that is capable of clicking some amazing shots. There’s also dual view video mode that shoots videos from both the front and back at the same time. Check out some camera samples below –

The 67W Supervooc charging is fast, however, we received an 80W charger in the box which was confusing, to say the least. The sunrise gold variant with its chameleon-like colour-changing design is a visual trip.

What’s bad

I am not saying that the Snapdragon 695 is a bad processor to any degree as many budget and midrange devices sport it flawlessly. But at a price point where other players are offering let’s say, a Dimensity 1080, this falls a little short. There are not too many bad points when it comes to the OPPO Reno 8T 5G as it’s definitely a device to flaunt but the Color OS with its out-of-the-box bloatware is a sight that sores the eyes.

Verdict

The OPPO Reno 8T 5G is a stylish device that is built for users who like to flaunt their smartphones. The ‘Eye Candy’ factor in this smartphone can easily become the sole purpose people go for it. The curved and punchy display coupled with capable performance makes up for a balanced experience with the OPPO Reno 8T 5G.

OPPO F21s Pro Review: Shimmers Like Gold!

The 20-25K price segment when choosing a smartphone is definitely difficult. The price segment is saturated and has a lot to offer. However, the OPPO F21s Pro definitely stands out. OPPO is one of the brands which places an emphasis on the style factor of a design and that is where this device excels. But that’s not all as it also has a strong spec sheet backing it with a solid camera setup! Let’s see what the OPPO F21s Pro has to offer:

Display

When buying a phone in the 20-25K segments, what you expect is a vibrant AMOLED display with a high refresh rate. This is exactly what you get here. The OPPO F21s Pro comes with a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED punch-hole display with 2400x1080P resolution. During my extensive testing of the device, watching Netflix/YouTube videos was pleasing to the eyes as the punchy display produced some great colors! You also get an under-display fingerprint sensor here which is accurate and fast.

Design

This is where the device has its cake and eats it too! For my review, I was handed the ‘Dawnlight Gold’ variant of the F21s Pro and it was a treat to look at. With the dawnlight gold edition, it is difficult to make out what color is the back panel exactly as it shimmers and changes colors like a chameleon. People not looking for an eye-catching device can opt for a much more serious-looking ‘Starlight Black’ variant which has a classy black finish. OPPO is known to make stylish devices and this one is on par with the brand’s history.

Camera

The OPPO F21s Pro comes with a triple-camera setup featuring a 64MP rear camera coupled with a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP Microscopic lens. Now, that’s new! We’re used to a triple camera setup featuring an ultra-wide camera to click wider images but OPPO decided to go the opposite route to utilize the lens to click detailed microscopic images. The microscopic lens is a throwback to school days when you’d look down the microscope in the biology lab! The microscopic lens offers 15X and 30X magnification capabilities. But that is not all as it also features a stunning Sony IMX709 32MP selfie sensor which clicks some crisp photos. Another interesting feature here is the Orbit Light at the back of the camera module which acts like a notification light. The Orbit Light looks beautiful when lit!

15x microscopic view at a cricket bat grip with the OPPO F21s Pro

Performance

Under the hood, you get Qualcomm’s trusted and powerful Snapdragon 680. The processor has proved its might in many midrange devices in the past and it is surely integrated well here! The device features a large 4500mAh battery here with 33W SUPERVOOC fast charging. The F21s Pro comes with 8GB RAM with expansion up to 5GB via virtual RAM. It features ample storage with 128GB onboard which can be extended via microSD Card up to 1TB.

Verdict

The OPPO F21s Pro is a solid device that packs a punch at a decent price of Rs 22,999. The device scores good marks with its display and long battery life. An extra point for its unique design! While am not a fan of the bloatware apps present on the device, they can prove helpful to some. Overall, this is a decent device at a decent price point. This could be the device you go for this festive design!

OnePlus 10T – First Impressions and Hands-On Review

OnePlus is releasing its new flagship, the OnePlus 10T. OnePlus was once known as the value brand, but their phone costs were soaring thanks to recent partnerships. This time, they’ve dropped the price on the OnePlus 10T and seem nostalgic. Here is our first impression of this new flagship offering from OnePlus.

Design

The OnePlus 10T follows the same burdenless, unified, and stylish design language as the OnePlus 10 Pro, complete with a unibody rear glass cover made with industry-leading technology. The OnePlus 10T is available in Moonstone Black and Jade Green colourways. The smooth glass delivers a ceramic-like finish that looks and feels premium. The significant difference in design between the 10Pro and 10T is the exclusion of an alert slider in the latter. The display has no curvature and is flat like the OnePlus phones of the past.

Display

The OnePlus 10T has a 6.7-inch FHD+ HDR 10+ AMOLED display, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 950 nits. The OnePlus 10T’s display has an adaptive refresh rate, meaning it can adjust between 120 Hz, 90 Hz, and 60 Hz depending on the content consumed to save battery life. Both 10Pro and 10T’s display has native support for 10-bit colour depth, delivering richer and more realistic colours with better detail reproduction. But, the 10T display is not curved on its side and presents a flat design, a more acceptable approach. It also misses out on the 1440p LTPO display without compromising on the display quality.

OnePlus 10T

Battery

OnePlus touts the complementary high-wattage accessory and 4,800mAh 10T battery capable of superior stability, reliability and thermal control, thanks to new OPPO charging technology. SuperVOOC charger allows 150W charging from the 160W charger inside the box. Unlike the Pro series, this one misses out on wireless charging, but the ultra-fast charger does compensate. 0-100% charge in less than 20 minutes!

Processor

To recall, the OnePlus 10 Pro featured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and was already a potent but costly device. The new processor – Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 – powering the OnePlus 10T 5G provides 10 per cent better CPU performance and 30 per cent improved power efficiency over its predecessor. And gamers will be pleased to know that there’s a 10 per cent increase in GPU clock speeds and a 30 per cent reduction in GPU power consumption.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is paired with up to 256GB of internal storage and up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM. The two-lane UFS 3.1 storage brings significantly faster write speeds into the picture, leading to a drop in power consumption levels. The 10T processor is a definite upgrade over the 10Pro.

Additional features

OnePlus 10T comes with the in-built Zen Mode app created by the One-Plus community to help users break away from their device and concentrate on other tasks without the constant distraction of the subsequent notification, ping or ring. It acts like a meditation app, and you can set a timer for how long you want the Zen Mode to go on, and you are complimented with meditation songs.

Camera

Talking about the camera, the OnePlus 10T has a 50MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro sensor, with a 16MP camera in the front. 10Pro has a Hasselblad colour science 48MP primary camera with a 32 MP front camera, so 10Pro goes heavy in camera. We captured the images from both these phones, and the 10T performs like most upper mid-range phones with its primary Sony IMX766 sensor, the same found in Nothing Phone (1). The colours are decent but lack the Hasselblad post-processing, a boon in some lighting conditions.

OnePlus 10T

The phone is equipped with OnePlus’s largest and most advanced cooling system. HyperBoost Gaming Engine will aid gamers in getting the best gaming experience on current OnePlus devices. Priced sanely starting at 50k INR with top-tier SOC, super-fast charging, decent cameras, and an attractive design, the OnePlus 10T seems like a thoughtful approach from OnePlus to gain back its lost audience.

Oppo Set to Launch Company’s First Foldable Smartphone on 15th Dec

We’ve witnessed several launches of foldable smartphones in the past couple of years, including Moto Razr 5G, Microsoft Surface Duo, and the most recent one is Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G. The foldable smartphones are new-age toys, and every smartphone manufacturing company wants at least one such smartphone in their purse.

Oppo was left little behind in this segment, but with Oppo Find N, the company is now ready to launch its first foldable smartphone in the market. Oppo Chief Product Officer Pete Lau recently revealed a glimpse of the new foldable smartphone on which the company has spent about 4-years to finish the research and development work.

The upcoming foldable smartphone from Oppo is teased with a tagline, “a small enough, big enough folding screen phone,” and is expected to offer a proprietary software experience to deliver a distinctive user experience. The phone’s layout is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, and the design is claimed to be simple, practical, and easy to use.

The teaser video shows the inward folding design of the Oppo Find N and appears to have a hole-punch design, at least for its foldable display. The smartphone has the main folding screen on the inside and another smaller one on the outside, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series. The video also hints that the foldable smartphone would come with a USB Type-C port and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

In his letter, Lau further claimed, “With the Find N, we have solved the main pain points in previous foldable smartphones, such as the crease in the display and overall durability of the device, by inventing perhaps the best hinge and display designs available today.” The first foldable smartphone from the house of Oppo, the Find N, is set to be launched on December 15, 2021.

Is Oppo Reno 6 Pro Diwali Edition a Fiery Deal?

It’s Diwali season or one could safely say that the festival of gold is here. This is the time when smartphone companies offer huge discounts on their devices as a festive treat. Oppo, this year decided to step above normalcy and launch something which they call a ‘Diwali Edition’ of their Reno 6 Pro 5G variant.

First we will talk about the specifications that Reno 6 Pro comes packed with and in the latter part we will learn about the upgrades that Oppo has made in the Diwali edition, if any.

Oppo Reno 6 Pro Specifications

Like any other premium smartphone, Reno 6 Pro is also a camera-centric phone that weighs around 177gms. It feels pretty sleek in hand and is neither too heavy nor too light. The back of the smartphone is built of matte glass and is resistant to fingerprints. Reno 6 Pro has a curved AMOLED screen and offers a Gorilla Glass 5. It has an in-built fingerprint scanner which honestly works quite well.

The general performance of the smartphone is quite impressive since it uses the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor, the maximum refresh rate being 90Hz. Reno 6 Pro comes packed with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB Storage, which leaves no space for lags and glitches. Although I believe 12GB of RAM is quite superfluous, and it hardly comes to use in daily activities, unless, of course, you play a lot of heavy games on your device. Nevertheless, the flagship performance is quite a catch on this one.

As a Call of Duty fan, I installed this heavy game on this device along with a few others and ran it on max graphics and frame rate to see how the game performs. Unsurprisingly, all the games ran smoothly without any lags, all thanks to the 12 GB RAM.

The battery life of the Oppo Reno 6 Pro is quite good but nothing exceptional of any sort. The device has a 4500 mAh battery and runs for a whole good day, involving a lot of video watching and exploring social media. It comes with a 65W SuperVOOC charger that charges the phone entirely in about 35 to 40 minutes.

Cameras are a big part of Oppo smartphones. Reno 6 Pro has a 64 Megapixel, 8MP, 2MP, and 2MP rear camera setup. The front camera is 32 Megapixels. As an upgrade, Oppo has added the Bokeh Flare Portrait filter, blurring the background even in the video mode. You can set the percentage of Bokeh you want for your video. There is also an AI Color Portrait mode which keeps the focused object in color and the background black & white. These are pretty cool features to work with.

The smartphone costs about 40,000, and you can get it for 39,400 on some websites.

Upgrades on Reno 6 Pro Diwali Edition

The first noticeable change that we see in the Diwali edition is that it offers a majestic gold color on the back. It seems like there’s a lot of glittery particles on the surface, but when touched, it has a smooth matte surface and feels quite premium.

The phone is packed with the same 12 GB and 256 GB storage and comes with the same Dimensity 1200 Processor. The screen size of 6.5 inch and refresh rate is also similar to the Pro version. The camera is similar to what we have seen on the regular Reno 6 Pro version, and we witness no upgrade. The ultra-wide-angle could have been enhanced with a 16MP camera instead of 8MP to give the smartphone a premium feel.

What’s different in the Reno 6 Pro Diwali Edition is that the icons and the UI are customized for a Diwali theme and can be changed depending on the occasion.

Oppo Reno 6 Pro Diwali Edition has been priced at Rs 41,990, which is Rs 1,990 more than the regular edition.
