Apple’s Vision Pro Hits Taiwan, With India Still Out of the Picture

Apple is gearing up to launch its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in Taiwan, signalling the next step in the device’s international rollout. Starting Tuesday, December 17, customers in Taiwan will be able to purchase the highly anticipated headset, with pre-orders opening on Thursday, December 5, at 9 AM.

The company has updated its Taiwanese website, providing detailed product information, pricing, and customisation options, including multiple storage capacities and ZEISS optical inserts for vision correction. To give potential buyers a hands-on experience, Apple will host 30-minute demonstration sessions at its two Taipei retail locations. Details about these demo sessions will be shared closer to the pre-order date.

Since its U.S. debut in February 2024, the Vision Pro has gradually expanded to markets like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and Singapore, followed by South Korea and the UAE. Despite this global push, India, a vital growth market for Apple, remains absent from the rollout schedule.

Pricing remains a critical factor in the Vision Pro’s global strategy. In the U.S., the device is priced at $3,499, catering primarily to early adopters and tech enthusiasts. Reports suggest that if the Vision Pro is introduced in India, it could cost nearly ₹3 lakh, posing a challenge for widespread consumer adoption in the price-sensitive market.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly working on a more affordable version of the Vision Pro. According to The Elec, the company aims to cut costs by adopting a less expensive display technology. While the first-generation Vision Pro boasts an OLED-on-silicon (OLEDoS) display with a pixel density of 3,391 ppi, the budget-friendly version may feature a display with around 1,500 ppi, balancing cost efficiency with visual quality.

As Taiwanese customers prepare to explore the Vision Pro’s cutting-edge capabilities, tech enthusiasts in India and other regions continue to wait for news of its availability. The possibility of a more accessible version signals Apple’s intent to expand its audience beyond niche markets, potentially reshaping the mixed-reality landscape in the years to come.
