Apple’s WWDC 2025 event is set to begin later today, and fresh leaks reveal exciting updates about iOS 26 and the future of the iPhone. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that iOS 26 will feature a brand-new interface called “Liquid Glass,” signaling a major shift in design and functionality for Apple’s mobile operating system.

What is the Liquid Glass UI?

The Liquid Glass interface will replace the current flat design with visually shiny, transparent elements that resemble glass surfaces. Expect to see:

    • Transparency and shine effects throughout the system
    • Glass-like UI components in toolbars, in-app interfaces, and controls
    • A more dynamic and visually rich user experience

This design philosophy brings iOS closer to visionOS and aims to unify the user experience across Apple devices.

Preparing for the 2027 iPhone Redesign

The Liquid Glass UI is part of Apple’s preparation for the next-generation iPhone models expected in 2027, which marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone. According to reports:

    • The 2027 iPhone, internally called “Glasswing,” will feature an all-glass body with rounded edges
    • The device will have ultra-thin bezels and no visible screen cutouts
    • It is rumored to include an under-display camera, a long-awaited innovation for Apple users

These design changes represent a significant departure from previous iPhone models, emphasizing sleekness and seamless integration.

While Apple has teased enhanced AI features, including an upgraded Siri, the company has faced delays in fully rolling out these capabilities. The Liquid Glass UI could be crucial in bridging this gap as Apple competes with rivals in AI innovation. However, insiders suggest:

    • WWDC 2025 will primarily focus on making iOS “more capable and sleek”
    • Major AI announcements are not expected at this year’s event
    • The priority lies in refining system performance and user experience

What to Expect at WWDC 2025

WWDC 2025 kicks off today at 10 am PT (10:30 pm IST). Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to lead the keynote, unveiling:

    • New versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and other Apple operating systems
    • Initial glimpses of the Liquid Glass UI and how it will transform iPhone interactions
    • Foundations for future hardware releases, including the 2027 iPhone

    Conclusion

The introduction of the Liquid Glass UI in iOS 26 marks a bold step forward for Apple’s software design, setting the stage for a fresh, visually stunning user experience. As the company prepares to celebrate two decades of the iPhone with a groundbreaking all-glass design in 2027, this new interface reflects Apple’s commitment to innovation and seamless integration across its ecosystem. While AI features may take a backseat at WWDC 2025, the focus on a sleeker and more capable iOS promises exciting developments for users and developers alike.
