Google will begin rolling out Android 16 starting June 11, 2025, beginning with select Pixel devices. This phased rollout marks the release of an early stable version, with more advanced features coming in future updates. Here’s everything you need to know.

Android 16 Release Date and Rollout Plan

The Android 16 rollout officially begins on Wednesday, June 11, as announced by the official Android Developers handle on X (formerly Twitter). The update will be released as an over-the-air (OTA) software update, starting with Google’s own Pixel devices.

Unlike previous years, Google is launching the stable version earlier than expected, hinting at a shift toward a more streamlined release cycle. However, key features like the new UI and battery enhancements will be introduced later through the QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release 1) update.

    Phased Rollout Across Regions

As with prior Android versions, the rollout will be phased and region-based, depending on time zones and device compatibility. Users should not expect a universal rollout time, but can anticipate receiving the update based on location and device eligibility.

Eligible Devices for Android 16 Update

Google is prioritizing its Pixel line for the initial rollout, followed by other OEMs like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Motorola. Here’s a detailed list of devices confirmed to receive the update:

    Google Pixel Devices

    • Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
    • Pixel 7, 7 Pro
    • Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a
    • Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet
    • Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold, 9a

    Samsung Devices

    • S Series: Galaxy S22, S23, S24, S25
    • Z Series: Galaxy Z Fold 4/5/6, Flip 4/5/6
    • A Series: A24–A26, A34–A36, A54–A56, A73
    • M Series: M34–M36, M54–M56
    • F Series: F34, F54, F55

    Xiaomi & Redmi Devices

    • Xiaomi: 13, 14, 15
    • Redmi: 12, 13
    • Redmi Note: 13, 14
    • Redmi K Series: K70

    OnePlus Devices

    • OnePlus: 11, 12, 13
    • Nord Series: Nord 3, Nord CE 4, Nord CE 4 Lite

    Motorola Devices

    • Edge Series: 40, 50, 60
    • Razr Series: 50, 60
    • Moto G Series: G45, G85

What to Expect from Android 16

While Android 16’s first version may not include dramatic changes, it sets the foundation for major enhancements arriving later in the year.

    Material 3 Expressive Interface

Android 16 will eventually introduce the Material 3 Expressive UI, featuring:

    • Adaptive color theming
    • Smoother animations
    • Improved haptic feedback

These upgrades aim to create a more intuitive and fluid user experience.

    Redesigned Quick Settings

Expect a revamped Quick Settings menu with:

    • A rectangular brightness slider
    • Resized tiles grouped into categories
    • A new toggle reset feature (rumored)

    Live Activities Integration

Live Activities will soon support real-time updates on the lock screen, status bar, and notification panel, allowing users to track live sports, deliveries, or events directly without unlocking their phone.

    Conclusion

The Android 16 rollout signals a shift in how Google approaches OS updates with early access to a stable version and key features reserved for future QPR updates. With wide device compatibility and promising UI changes on the horizon, Android 16 is shaping up to be a smart, user-focused evolution of the Android platform
