Google Expands AI Mode in Search with Visual Cards and Smarter Follow-Ups

Google is supercharging the way we search. After a promising early test, the tech giant is now rolling out its AI Mode in Search to a broader audience. Originally launched in March as an experimental feature, AI Mode is now accessible to all users in the U.S. via Search Labs, no more waitlists or exclusive invites. And that’s not all, some users will soon spot a dedicated “AI Mode” tab right inside their Google app, making it even easier to tap into this next-gen search experience.

So, what exactly is AI Mode?

Think of it as a smarter, more conversational layer built into your Google searches. It doesn’t just toss you a pile of blue links, it understands context, processes multimodal input (like text, images, and more), and delivers well-structured, AI-generated answers that actually make sense. Whether you’re planning a trip, comparing gadgets, or diving deep into a research rabbit hole, AI Mode aims to make your journey smoother and smarter. But with this wider rollout, Google is also adding a couple of powerful new tricks to AI Mode’s arsenal.

    Say hello to visual cards.

These aren’t your old-school search results. Instead of a list of links, AI Mode now serves up visually rich cards curated from trusted sources. Looking for a hair salon nearby? You’ll see a sleek card packed with ratings, reviews, hours, and even menus. Shopping for a gadget? Expect real-time prices, deals, product images, shipping info, and availability near you, all at a glance.

Another game-changer is AI History. Ever wished you could easily revisit and build upon a past search? Now you can. A new panel on the left side of the screen lets you scroll through your previous queries, pick up right where you left off, and continue your train of thought without starting from scratch. It’s especially handy for long-term projects, whether you’re planning a vacation, writing a report, or just obsessively researching your next phone.

Google’s latest move clearly signals where search is headed: more intelligent, more visual, and more human-like. With AI Mode stepping into the spotlight, the way we interact with search engines might never be the same again.
