Google Gemini to Use YouTube, Maps, Flights, and Hotels Data Automatically from October 13

Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, will begin automatically using publicly available data from YouTube, Google Maps, Google Flights, and Google Hotels starting October 13, 2025. Previously, users could opt out of this feature for individual applications. From this date onward, Google will make this automatic data sourcing the default setting.

This update comes shortly after OpenAI introduced app integrations for ChatGPT, including platforms like Spotify and YouTube, highlighting the growing trend of AI assistants directly interacting with popular apps.

Gemini vs. ChatGPT: Advanced App Integration

Google’s move is part of its broader strategy to make Gemini more competitive against ChatGPT. Unlike ChatGPT’s plug-in system, Gemini allows users to link third-party apps like WhatsApp or Spotify and give commands naturally.

    Examples of Gemini app integrations:

    • WhatsApp: Send messages directly via Gemini.
    • Spotify: Play music on demand after granting permission.

This seamless integration allows Gemini to access information from multiple apps efficiently, making it a powerful productivity tool.

What’s Changing in the Gemini App Experience

With the October 13 update, users will no longer be able to turn off Gemini from accessing public data on YouTube, Maps, Flights, and Hotels. This means any question posed to Gemini will automatically include relevant information from these platforms.

Google emphasizes that Gemini will only use publicly available data and will not access personal information from Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, or Google Keep without explicit permission. Users can manually allow Gemini to access these apps to boost productivity and can manage or delete activity history at any time.

ChatGPT Mini Apps: A Competitive Comparison

OpenAI has also introduced mini apps within ChatGPT, allowing users to interact directly with popular platforms like:

    • Spotify
    • Canva
    • Figma
    • Coursera
    • Zillow
    • Expedia

Future integrations include Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, OpenTable, Target, Peloton, Tripadvisor, and AllTrails. This positions ChatGPT as a versatile tool for managing tasks, media, and bookings directly through the chat interface.

    Final Take

Google Gemini’s automatic integration with YouTube, Maps, Flights, and Hotels marks a significant step toward creating an AI assistant that blends productivity, information, and convenience. Users can expect faster, more informed responses, while still maintaining control over their personal data.
