Elon Musk-owned xAI recently introduced a major update to its Grok AI platform with the launch of Grok Imagine, a powerful new AI tool capable of generating both images and short videos from text prompts. Available to select users, the feature also includes a controversial “spicy mode,” enabling the creation of explicit content, though still within certain moderation limits.
What is Grok Imagine?
Grok Imagine combines generative AI technology with text-to-image tools to create realistic visuals. It also extends this capability to short video clips with added sound, offering an immersive multimedia creation experience. This is similar to what other AI giants are doing such as Google’s Veo 3 and OpenAI’s Sora, both of which allow text-to-video generation.
Who Can Use Grok Imagine?
The feature is now live for Heavy and Premium+ subscribers on the Grok iOS app, and available for Heavy users on Android as well.
Key Features of Grok Imagine
- Image Generation:
Users can type a text prompt, load an image, or even enable voice input. Grok will then generate an image along with multiple variations. You can scroll to generate more images and either download or share the result.
- Video Creation:
Tap any generated image and select “Make Video.”
Choose from available styles: Custom, Spicy, Fun, or Normal.
The app will automatically generate a short video and display it in the interface.
- Image-to-Video Conversion:
Click on the photo icon with a plus sign at the bottom of the app.
Select an image from your device, and Grok Imagine will create a short video from it automatically.

What Is Grok’s ‘Spicy Mode’?
One of the more talked-about features is the “Spicy Mode,” which enables users to generate explicit images and videos. While the system enforces moderation and censorship rules to prevent harmful outputs, limited testing has shown it still allows for borderline explicit content in some cases.
Conclusion
With Grok Imagine, xAI is entering the competitive AI-generated content space with an offering that rivals big names like Google and OpenAI. From realistic images to sound-enabled video clips and even limited explicit outputs Grok Imagine is a bold step forward in generative AI tools, now accessible to a growing group of mobile users.
