Type Anything, Get a Photo: Snapchat’s Wild New AI Lens

Snapchat is taking creativity to the next level with its new AI-powered Imagine Lens, allowing users to generate and edit images directly from text prompts. This feature is currently available to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ subscribers in the US. The launch follows Snapchat’s recent introduction of the Lens Studio iOS app and web tool, which simplified the creation of augmented reality (AR) effects for users.

    What is Snapchat’s Imagine Lens?

The Imagine Lens allows users to type prompts like “make me an alien” or “show me a grumpy cat” to instantly create AI-generated images. These images can be sent to friends, shared in Snapchat Stories, or saved for use outside the app. Unlike other AI filters on Snapchat, Imagine Lens is the platform’s first open-prompt AI tool, giving users the freedom to bring almost any idea to life.

For those who don’t want to create their own prompts, Snapchat offers pre-made suggestions. Examples include:

    • “Turn me into a four-panel comic where something heroic is done”
    • “Make me into a caricature”
    • “Make this person go skydiving”

Users can easily customize these prompts by tapping the caption bar and typing their own ideas.

How Does the Imagine Lens Work?

Snapchat has hinted that its AI tools are powered by a combination of in-house models and leading industry AI technologies. Earlier this year, Snap introduced a text-to-image research model for smartphones, designed to enable future AI-driven features. While it’s not confirmed that this model powers Imagine Lens, Snapchat emphasizes the high-quality, flexible AI capabilities behind its new Lens.

How to Use Snapchat’s Imagine Lens

If you’re a Snapchat+ Platinum or Lens+ subscriber, follow these steps to create AI images:

    1. Open Snapchat and locate the Imagine Lens at the front of the Carousel or in the Exclusive Filters section.
    2. Tap the caption bar to type your own prompt or select a pre-loaded suggestion.
    3. Design your Snap and send it to friends, post it to your Story, or save it for sharing outside Snapchat.

The Imagine Lens offers an exciting way to explore creativity, share unique AI-generated images, and elevate the Snapchat experience.
