In today’s world, especially in urban India, the air we breathe indoors is often more polluted than we realize. With rising PM2.5 levels, allergens, dust, volatile organic compounds from furniture and cleaning products, and seasonal spikes in pollution, many households are turning to air purifiers for relief. Whether you suffer from allergies, asthma, or simply want fresher air for better sleep and health, a good purifier can make a noticeable difference.
Qubo, a brand from the trusted Hero Group, has been expanding its smart home lineup with several air purifiers. The newly launched Qubo R250 Smart Air Purifier targets the affordable segment, promising effective purification for small to medium rooms (up to 250 sq. ft.) at a price point of around ₹7,990. But does this black variant deliver better value than previous models and justify the investment? Let’s dive in.
Design and Build Quality
One of the first things that stands out about the Qubo R250 is its fresh aesthetic. Previous Qubo air purifiers in the Q series, like the Q200 or Q400, typically came in a clean white finish that blended into minimalist modern homes. The R250 breaks from this with a sleek all-black exterior, giving it a more premium, refined look that feels at home in modern or darker-themed interiors.
The cylindrical tower design is compact yet sturdy. It weighs just 2.58 kg, it’s lightweight enough to move between rooms easily and perfect for a bedroom, home office, or small living area. The build quality is impressive for the price. The matte black finish resists fingerprints and dust visibility, and the plastic feels solid without any creaks or cheap flex. Top controls are intuitive with touch-sensitive buttons for power, fan speeds, and mode selection. A small display or indicators show air quality levels, which is helpful at a glance.

It doesn’t scream “budget” at all. The air intake from the sides and clean air output from the top follow standard efficient designs. Overall, it looks premium and modern, earning compliments from family members who initially mistook it for a high-end speaker.
Performance and Features
Performance is where the R250 aims to punch above its weight. It boasts a True HEPA H13 filter in a 5-in-1 system, including a pre-filter, an anti-bacterial filter, an activated carbon layer, and more. This combo claims to remove 99.99% of dust, allergens, PM2.5, pollen, smoke, and odours. With a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of 150 m³/h, it’s well-suited for rooms up to 250 sq. ft., effectively handling everyday pollution.
In my testing, the purifier quickly improved air quality. On auto mode, it ramps up when it detects pollutants and settles down once levels drop. After cooking or opening the windows during periods of moderate outdoor pollution, lingering smells noticeably cleared, and dust settling on surfaces decreased. It is great for bedrooms or small spaces, though not ideal for large open halls.
Noise levels are a big plus. The fans are remarkably silent on lower speeds, making it perfect for nighttime use without disturbing sleep. Power consumption is low, so running it 24/7 won’t significantly spike your electricity bill.
Smart features also add to the experience. Integration with the Qubo app allows remote control via your phone, adjusting speeds, setting schedules and timers, monitoring real-time air quality (PM2.5 readings), and even enabling voice control with Alexa or Google Assistant. The app is user-friendly, though it requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, a common minor limitation seen in other Qubo models. Auto mode with AI elements works reliably, and the scheduler helps automate daily routines.

Filter maintenance is straightforward. The replaceable 5-in-1 filter lasts up to 9,000 hours depending on usage, and genuine replacements are readily available directly from the Qubo website (around ₹2,000-2,500), which is reasonable. No hunting for third-party options or compatibility issues.
One area for improvement is that, while it has a dust sensor, some users (including those with similar models) have noted occasional quirks in the AQI readings. However, in practice, the purification performance remains strong.
Verdict
The Qubo R250 Smart Air Purifier is an affordable and effective option for small rooms, featuring HEPA filtration, quiet operation, and smart connectivity in a sleek black design. While it may not be the most powerful model in Qubo’s lineup, it offers excellent value without major performance compromises, making it ideal for those in polluted areas or with respiratory concerns. Despite minor app quirks and the absence of advanced sensors, the R250 is a highly recommended choice for bedrooms and compact living spaces, delivering cleaner air and improved health without a hefty price tag.
