Xiaomi TV FX Mini LED TV Review: Xiaomi’s Disruption in the Smart TV Market

Xiaomi has long been a disruptor in the smart TV space, and with the FX Mini LED Series, the company is once again leading the charge by bringing genuine Mini LED technology to an aggressively attractive price point. Starting at around ₹30,000 for the 43-inch model, this lineup promises deeper blacks, brighter highlights, and better contrast than typical LED sets in the same range. But does it deliver better results than the competition at this price? After spending time with the 43-inch version, which is also available in 55-, 65-, and 75-inch sizes, I have formed my opinion.

    DESIGN & BUILD

Unboxing the Xiaomi TV FX Mini LED 43-inch, the first impression is of understated premium quality. The set features a sleek metallic frame with a near-bezel-less design that achieves a claimed 97% screen-to-body ratio. The black finish looks refined, and the thin profile makes it feel more expensive than its price suggests. It sits neatly on a simple stand that provides decent stability, and the VESA mount points make wall installation straightforward.

Build quality is solid for the segment. The panel feels rigid, with no noticeable flex, and the overall construction avoids the cheap plastic feel that plagues many budget TVs. Ports are well arranged on the side and rear, including three HDMI ports (one with eARC), two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, optical audio out, and a 3.5 mm jack. The Bluetooth remote is comfortable, with dedicated shortcut buttons for popular apps and a prominent Alexa button. It feels responsive and well-made. Overall, the design successfully positions this TV as a modern living-room centrepiece rather than a bargain-bin option.

    PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY

At the heart of the FX Mini LED is its Full-Array Mini LED backlight combined with quantum-dot colour technology (Xiaomi calls the combination Quantum MagiQ). On the 43-inch model I tested, there are 36 local dimming zones. While that is modest compared with higher-end Mini LED sets that pack hundreds of zones, it still marks a clear step up from conventional edge-lit LED TV.

In practice, the difference is noticeable. Blacks are deeper and more controlled than on standard LED panels at this price. Dark scenes in movies and series show better shadow detail with less blooming than I expected. Peak brightness reaches up to 550 nits, which is respectable for the class and helps HDR content (HDR10 and HDR10+) pop. Highlights in bright outdoor scenes or explosions have more punch, and the overall image has greater depth.

Colour performance is one of the stronger points. Coverage of 93% DCI-P3 and support for 1.07 billion colours deliver rich, vibrant hues without looking oversaturated in most modes. Skin tones look natural in Filmmaker Mode, and the Vivid Picture Engine 2 does a brilliant job of upscaling lower-resolution content. Viewing angles are wide at 178 degrees, so the picture holds up reasonably well off-axis for a VA-type panel.

Motion handling is adequate rather than class-leading. The native refresh rate is 60 Hz on the 43-inch (larger sizes add DLG 120 Hz Game Mode). MEMC helps smooth out sports and action sequences, but fast-moving objects can still show some blur. With ALLM enabled, input lag is low enough for casual gaming, and the TV handles 4K sources cleanly. Eye Care Mode and blue-light reduction features make long viewing sessions more comfortable.

The Fire TV OS is a major differentiator. Instead of Google TV, you get Amazon’s interface with a clean home screen, strong content recommendations, and seamless access to more than 12,000 apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar. Alexa integration is excellent, with voice commands for searching, launching apps, or controlling smart-home devices work reliably. With 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the interface feels snappy in daily use, and the ample storage means you rarely need to manage apps. Apple AirPlay 2 support is a welcome bonus for iPhone and Mac users. The only minor limitation is the absence of Google Cast, but Miracast covers most Android devices.

    SOUND

Audio comes from a 20 W dual full-range speaker system on the 43-inch model (larger sizes upgrade to a four-driver setup with dedicated tweeters). Output is clear and surprisingly full for a slim TV. Dialogue remains intelligible even at moderate volumes, and Dolby Audio, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X processing add a sense of width and immersion. Bass is present but limited. Action scenes have some impact, yet they lack the deep rumble of a proper soundbar. For everyday viewing, streaming, and news, the built-in speakers are more than adequate. Serious movie nights or music listening will still benefit from an external audio system, which the eARC port makes easy to connect.

    VERDICT

The Xiaomi TV FX Mini LED impresses with its performance at an affordable price, featuring Full-Array local dimming, solid peak brightness, and a wide color gamut alongside a polished Fire TV experience. Picture quality surpasses typical budget 4K TVs, especially in contrast and highlight control, though it has limitations like a 60 Hz refresh rate, modest local dimming zones, and average speakers. Despite these compromises, the TV offers excellent value, with larger models enhancing brightness and features. For those seeking an authentic Mini LED upgrade without premium prices, the Xiaomi TV FX Mini LED Series is a leading choice.
