Expect AI to be the buzzword (again), but we’re hoping for something that actually changes the game, like glasses that don’t make you look like you’re lost in a Silicon Valley cosplay convention.
Just when you think the world of tech couldn’t fold any further, it does and then flips back with a vengeance. Welcome to the spectacle of monsoon, where smartphones aren’t just phones; they’re origami marvels that could double as conversation starters or mini laptops, depending on your wrist strength. Samsung has just revealed its latest Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7, and while the form factor remains familiar, the insides are now smarter, faster, and more flexible than ever. I was unable to attend the launch in New York due to prior commitments, but I am very glad that Samsung addressed all the issues we had with the fold, namely its thin outer bezel and weight, and gave us a nearly perfect foldable phone. And yes, Vivo’s X Fold5 still thinks it’s Batman with that satellite connectivity and periscope lens combo, and the camera and image processing capabilities of the X Fold5 are truly impressive.

Meanwhile, in between all the folding and flipping, IFA Berlin is already starting to buzz. Expect AI to be the buzzword (again), but we’re hoping for something that actually changes the game, like glasses that don’t make you look like you’re lost in a Silicon Valley cosplay convention. We will be there to get you the updates. July and August will feature launches that we will thoroughly cover, including Snapdragon Auto Day and the highly anticipated Google Pixel 10 series.
Let’s discuss the elephant in the room, September and Apple. It’s like the tech world’s version of Diwali, the Met Gala, and a Taylor Swift world tour all rolled into one. We expect the iPhone 17, possibly featuring the much-anticipated under-display Face ID and impressive camera capabilities. I’m also hoping for a teaser of the Vision Pro 2 or perhaps a new take on AirPods (imagine health-tracking earbuds!). And who knows, there might even be a surprise “One More Thing” that truly wows us instead of just lightening our wallets. Could we finally see an Apple foldable phone? That would be a game-changer and a significant innovation from Apple. Until now, they’ve mostly given us incremental updates, leaving iPhone 14 users without a compelling reason to upgrade. An Apple foldable would be iconic.
Speaking of icons, Sunil Chhetri graces our cover this month. The man who made India believe in football before it became cool and before Messi created magic in Miami. He talks about the importance of hustle and heart and how a footballer can inspire a nation just as much as a folded phone can confuse your grandmother. Not only is he humble, but his daily discipline is something that should be taught in school textbooks. Enjoy the issue and the monsoon!
