    Ratings – ⭐⭐

After 4-long years, Mirzapur returns with a new season. However, it lost the magic touch it had in the first two seasons, maybe due to the absence of Munna Bhaiyya (Divyenddu), the showrunner and the fierce character of the show. The 2nd season ended at a point where Munna Bhaiyya got killed, and Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) sat on the throne of Mirzapur.

When the trailer of the show was released, it seemed like a decent season, but what they showed in the 10-episodic series was not anything like the previous seasons. The death of Munna was not the only reason to skip the third season. The new season struggles to stay with the conflict that it promises to deliver, and many times, it seems abruptly written.

Directors – Gurmeet Singh and Anand Iyer

Available on – Amazon Prime Video

Cast – Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Anjumm Shharma, and Isha Talwar

    Duration – 10 episodes, 50-55 minutes each

Storyline – With the death of Munna Bhaiyya and the missing news of Kaleen Bhaiyya, the reign of the Tripathis in Purvanchal is over. Now, Guddu and Golu are trying their best to take over the hold of the throne, vultured by Sharad and other contenders of the region. Will they be successful in achieving the prestigious throne of Mirzapur?

Let’s get into the deets –

    The Throne of Mirzapur

    Mirzapur

After getting deeply wounded in the climax of season two, Kaleen Bhaiyaa (Pankaj Tripathi) was taken away to a remote location in Bihar by Sharad Shukla (Anjumm Sharma). Assuming he died or fled, Guddu Pandit becomes a self-appointed King of Mirzapur and tries to take control of the surrounding areas and businesses, which Sharad Shukla (Anjumm Sharma) opposes.

The beginning of the show was spent building up the story, but unfortunately, it took the writers four long episodes to convey what this season is all about. The show seemed wishy-washy to me, and Ali Fazal was not only trying to earn the title of ‘King of Mirzapur’ but also trying to save the season, but he couldn’t due to the scarcity of a good script and screenplay.

    Character Arc

Being a fan of crime thrillers, I was way too excited for the release of Mirzapur Season 3. The 3rd season was completely on the shoulder of Ali Fazal, and as always, he delivered. However, in this season, his performance was not endorsed by other actors, making him the sole performer of the show. He stayed faithful to his job until the end and helped us survive the third season.

Pankaj Tripathi played a significant role in the first two seasons, but in the 3rd one, he was barely there in the frame, and whenever he was shown, he wasn’t in the zone he’s known for. Besides Ali, Anjumm Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, Vijay Varma, and Isha Talwar had significant roles, but due to the badly written screenplay, their characters were sidelined.

    Mirzapur

    Extreme Gore – Spoilers Ahead!

The third season of Mirzapur takes violence to the next level, and a few scenes are best avoided if you have a fainted heart. When Guddu Pandit realises Robin (Dimpy’s fiancee) told his father, Ramakant Pandit (Rajesh Tailang), about his bad-doings, he confronts Robin and ends up killing him just by plugging fingers into his eye sockets and that scene takes you aback.

    Scene of the Season

When Guddu becomes lonely, and everyone puts him in the spot, he walks into the jail to meet his father, Ramakant Pandit, played by Rajesh Tailang. For the first time in three seasons, they have an emotional conversation, during which Guddu leaves his ego behind and asks for help from his father and gets advice to follow what his heart says.

    Watch or Skip?

At 45-50 minutes for one episode and 10 episodes in the kitty, the runtime feels extended. If you have loved the previous seasons, then please save your time and watch only the last 20 minutes of the 10th episode. In short, the third season fails to convince us of where it is heading until the very end – when Kaleen Bhaiyya takes hold of the throne, and Guddu escapes the jail.

Note – If you plan to watch, please don’t miss the ‘Shayari’s of Raheem’.
