BenQ has created a multifunctional monitor that delivers high-quality visuals across a wide price range, suitable for all users. When the BenQ EW2790U arrived, we decided to use it as our daily monitor for both work and play. The noticeable improvement in quality from our old 1080p monitor was significant. But is this the best monitor available? Let’s find out.
Design & Build
From the moment you unbox the BenQ EW2790U, its design shows thoughtful minimalism with a touch of uniqueness. The monitor features a sleek white body that sets it apart from the sea of black-framed displays, perfectly complementing a white build or light-themed workspace. This aesthetic choice not only gives it a premium, modern vibe but also helps it blend seamlessly into brighter environments, reducing the visual weight often associated with larger screens.

The stand is a standout element here. It is strong, stable, and ergonomically designed for flexibility. It offers height adjustment, tilt, and swivel capabilities, but what really impressed me is the 90-degree pivot function, which allows effortless rotation to portrait mode. This is incredibly useful for tasks like coding, reading long documents, or scrolling through social media feeds, where vertical orientation maximizes screen real estate.
The ports are neatly arranged at the back, but they lack cable management channels to keep your desk tidy. The visible front-firing speakers add a unique flair, integrated into the bottom bezel without compromising the slim profile.
Features and Performance
Diving into the features, the BenQ monitor packs a punch for its price point, starting with the 27-inch IPS panel delivering 4K UHD resolution at 60Hz. The 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut ensures vibrant, accurate colours that’s a step up from standard sRGB coverage, making it suitable for photo editing, video streaming, and casual gaming. BenQ’s exclusive AI Contrast technology is a highlight, it dynamically analyzes content and ambient lighting to optimize contrast, brightness, and colour temperature in real-time.

Performance-wise, the display shines in everyday use. Brightness peaks at around 300 nits, which is ample for well-lit rooms, and the anti-glare coating handles reflections admirably. Response time is a respectable 5ms, minimizing motion blur in fast-paced scenes, though it’s not geared for competitive esports. In my experience, watching movies or playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 felt immersive, with the AI enhancements revealing subtle details in dark areas that cheaper monitors might wash out. The panel’s viewing angles are excellent at 178-degree, thanks to IPS tech, assuring consistent colours from off-angles, which is perfect for collaborative work or family movie nights.

Audio is another strong suit, courtesy of the dual 5W front-firing speakers tuned with BenQ’s treVolo technology. These deliver clear, balanced sound with surprising bass for built-in units, handling everything from dialogue-heavy podcasts to music playlists without distortion at higher volumes. In terms of connectivity, it features a USB-C port for 60W charging of laptops, three HDMI 2.0 ports for connecting multiple devices, and a headphone jack. However, it lacks a DisplayPort, which is beneficial for connecting displays to a PC that supports DisplayPort.
The BenQ EW2790U is highly regarded for its eye-care features, including Low Blue Light Plus technology, Flicker-Free functionality, and a Visual Optimizer that adjusts settings to minimise eye strain. Gamers can benefit from a dedicated mode that enhances visibility and supports AMD FreeSync, helping eliminate screen tearing. However, the 60Hz refresh rate may not meet the needs of high-frame-rate gaming enthusiasts.
Verdict
The BenQ EW2790U is an impressive 4K monitor priced under ₹20,000, featuring a sleek white frame and an ergonomic stand that rotates 90 degrees. With front-firing speakers and AI-driven performance, it excels in both productivity and entertainment, boasting excellent colour accuracy and solid connectivity. However, its 60Hz refresh rate may not satisfy hardcore gamers, and audiophiles might seek better audio setups. For a stylish white-themed desk or a versatile monitor, it’s a smart choice that offers great value.
