    JBL Tune Beam 2 Review

Big Sound, Small Price, No Wires Attached

    8.3 Verdict

The JBL Tune Beam 2 stands out in the ₹6,000 budget TWS market, offering excellent sound quality, adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), and good app support. With its punchy bass, customizable sound profiles, and reliable call quality, it is ideal for music enthusiasts and commuters alike. However, it has some minor drawbacks, such as an IP54 rating and the lack of wireless charging. If you prioritize customization and battery life, the JBL Tune Beam 2 is a smart choice.

    The Good
    1. Excellent sound quality with JBL's Pure Bass Sound.
    2. Effective Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC).
    3. Customizable app features for sound profiles.
    4. Up to 10 hours of playback on a single charge.
    The Bad
    1. ANC performance is not the best compared to pricier models.
    2. No wireless charging option.
    3. Lower call volume in noisy environments.

The sub-₹6,000 true wireless stereo (TWS) earbud market is a battlefield, with brands competing to deliver premium features at budget-friendly prices. JBL has entered the battle with the JBL Tune Beam 2, priced at  ₹5,499. Boasting adaptive noise cancellation (ANC), JBL’s signature Pure Bass Sound, and a feature-packed app, these earbuds promise to redefine value in their segment. But in a crowded field with rivals like the CMF Buds Pro 2 and OnePlus Buds 3, can the Tune Beam 2 deliver the knockout punch to claim the crown of the best TWS under ₹6,000? Let’s uncover whether it lives up to the hype or falls short in the heat of competition.

    Design & Build

The JBL Tune Beam 2 sports a modern, understated design that prioritizes functionality without sacrificing style. The charging case is compact, measuring 61.5 x 29.15 x 47 mm and weighing just 42 grams, making it pocket-friendly and easy to carry. Its matte finish and rounded edges give it a sleek, comfortable feel, though it’s prone to smudges, which might bother those who prefer a pristine look. The front of the case has three LED indicators for battery status, providing a practical option for quick checks. The JBL logo adds a subtle touch of brand flair. Inside, the earbuds are securely held by strong magnets, ensuring they stay in place but are easy to retrieve.

The earbuds themselves adopt a stem-style design with soft silicone tips. The oval-shaped earpieces are designed to be inserted diagonally, providing a secure and comfortable seal ideal for extended use, whether commuting or hitting the gym. With an IP54 rating, the earbuds are resistant to dust and water splashes, making them reliable for workouts or light rain. However, prolonged use may cause slight ear fatigue, and the glossy touch-sensitive areas on the earbuds attract fingerprints. While the design isn’t groundbreaking, its clean aesthetic and strong build quality make it a practical choice for everyday use.

    Performance & Sound Quality

The JBL Tune Beam 2 is powered by 10mm dynamic drivers, offering the brand’s signature JBL Pure Bass Sound, which is punchy, clear, and well-suited for genres like hip-hop, EDM, and pop. The soundstage is enhanced by JBL Spatial Sound, which transforms stereo content into a more immersive experience, adding depth to music, movies, and games. Out of the box, the earbuds offer a balanced sound with crisp mids, clear highs, and dynamic bass that doesn’t overpower vocals or instruments. For those seeking customization, the JBL Headphones app features a complete equalizer with presets such as Studio, Bass, and Vocal, in addition to a 10-band manual EQ for precise adjustments.

The Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a standout feature in this price range. It effectively mutes low rumbles, office chatter, and street noise, though it doesn’t match the noise isolation of premium models like the OnePlus Buds 3 Pro. In noisy environments, some ambient noise may come through, but the adjustable ANC slider in the app allows users to customize their level of isolation based on their surroundings. The Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes are equally impressive, letting you stay aware of your environment or hold conversations without removing the earbuds.

Call quality is highlighted by a six-microphone setup, including two beamforming outer mics and one inner mic per earbud, optimized for environmental noise cancellation and echo suppression. Voices remain clear and natural even in noisy environments, although we observed that the call volume was slightly lower, indicating potential for improvement with a software update. The lack of in-ear detection for auto play/pause is a minor drawback, as competitors in this segment often include this feature.

    App Support

The JBL Headphones app stands out by providing a level of customization that is uncommon in budget true wireless (TWS) earbuds. Available for both iOS and Android devices, the app is user-friendly yet loaded with features. Users can check the battery levels for each earbud and the charging case, adjust the active noise cancellation (ANC) levels, and switch between Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes. The app’s equalizer provides control over sound profiles with presets for various genres and a custom EQ option. Personi-Fi creates customized sound profiles tailored to your hearing and preferences, enhancing your listening experience. The app also offers a Relax Mode with calming nature sounds, a low-latency mode for gaming and video, and a Find My Buds feature.

    Battery Life

The battery performance of the JBL Tune Beam 2 is one of its key strengths. During our testing, we experienced 9.5 to 10 hours of continuous playback. Additionally, with moderate use of 3 to 3.5 hours daily, the earbuds lasted up to 9 days when used with the charging case. The fast charging feature is a great advantage, as just a 15-minute charge provides 4 to 5 hours of playback.

The lack of wireless charging is a significant drawback. However, the USB-C charging case can be fully charged in approximately 2 hours. Additionally, features like auto-standby and auto power-off help to conserve battery life.
