Overall, the HP OmniBook X Flip is a solid choice for a lightweight, high-performance laptop. Its slim design and Intel Core Ultra 7 capabilities offer great value, despite minor drawbacks in battery life and heat management. This versatile 2-in-1 delivers no-lag performance and innovative features, making it a smart buy for those looking to enhance their work and creative life.

In today’s fast-paced world, a laptop that combines portability with strong performance can significantly enhance your daily routine. Imagine moving from a morning video call at a coffee shop to editing high-resolution photos on a train without the burden of a heavy device. The HP OmniBook X FlipNGAI 14-fm0029TU is a next-generation AI PC that aims to improve this experience. Priced competitively, this 2-in-1 convertible laptop often outperforms competitors like the Lenovo Yoga 9i and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio in terms of AI integration and overall value, even if it doesn’t boast premium construction in every area. Is this laptop the better choice? Let’s find out.

    Design & Build

The HP OmniBook X Flip impresses right out of the box with its premium aesthetic and thoughtful engineering. Measuring just 12.32 x 8.6 x 0.59 inches and weighing a mere 1.38 kg, it’s remarkably slim and lightweight, ideal for on-the-go professionals and students. This featherlight design doesn’t compromise durability; the chassis is crafted from recycled aluminium, offering a sturdy feel with a modern, eco-friendly touch. The blue finish adds a splash of personality, setting it apart from typical silver laptops.

At the heart is the 360-degree hinge, allowing for seamless transitions between laptop, tent, stand, and tablet modes. This flexibility is excellent for creative workflows, whether sketching ideas in tablet mode or presenting in tent mode during meetings. The 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen display is a standout feature, delivering vibrant colours, deep blacks, and a 0.2ms response time for smooth visuals.

Connectivity is another strong point for this device, featuring two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A port, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone jack, ensuring ample connectivity without the need for dongles. The 5MP webcam with IR for Windows Hello offers clear video calls, although its low-light performance is somewhat lacking. The backlit keyboard, while responsive, has stiffness to it.

    Performance

Under the hood, the HP OmniBook X Flip packs a serious punch, thanks to its Intel Core i7-258V processor. With up to 4.8GHz turbo boost and 8 cores, it handles everything from web browsing to intensive multitasking effortlessly. Paired with 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD, it delivers lightning-fast load times and seamless operation.

The integrated Intel Arc 140V GPU enhances graphics performance, making it suitable for light gaming, photo editing, and even 4K video playback. Benchmarks show it outperforming AMD Ryzen AI equivalents in specific workloads, particularly those utilizing its 47 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit). A dedicated Copilot key stands out as a game-changer, activating Microsoft’s Copilot AI with a single press for quick queries, content generation, or system optimizations.

    Battery Life

The HP OmniBook X Flip’s 59Wh battery provides approximately 7-8 hours of use with web browsing and document editing at moderate brightness levels. Fast charging via USB-C reaches 50% in approximately 30 minutes. However, tasks like video editing or lightweight gaming can reduce battery life to 4-5 hours, so keeping it plugged in during intensive use is recommended. While the OLED display consumes power, adaptive brightness helps reduce it. Although battery life is competitive among AI-focused laptops, it doesn’t match that of all-day models like the MacBook Air. To maximize battery life, use power-saving modes and leverage AI features wisely.
