OnePlus has always been known for delivering flagship-level experiences at more accessible prices, and the OnePlus 15R continues that tradition. Launched as the budget-oriented sibling to the recently released OnePlus 15 flagship, the 15R strips away some premium elements to hit a competitive price point of ₹44,999 in India. However, in a market crowded with strong contenders from brands like Samsung, Google, and even OnePlus’s own models under the OPPO umbrella, does the 15R truly stand out as the best value-for-money option? Or do its compromises hold it back? I have spent several weeks using the device in my daily routine. Let’s dive in and find out.
DESIGN & BUILD

The OnePlus 15R borrows heavily from its flagship brother in terms of aesthetics, delivering a premium look and feel that punches above its price tag. It features a large 6.83-inch flat display upfront, surrounded by slim, symmetrical bezels that give it a modern, immersive appearance. The screen is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass 7i, adding durability against scratches and minor drops.

Around the back, you’ll find a matte glass panel that disfuse light beautifull. The camera module is prominently placed in the top-left corner, with a familiar OnePlus design language. The frame is made of aluminum, providing a sturdy feel without adding excessive weight. At around 219 grams, the phone feels substantial but not overly heavy, making it comfortable for extended use.
PERFORMANCE
This is where the OnePlus 15R truly shines and justifies its existence. It packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset – a powerhouse that’s making its debut in this segment. Paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the 15R delivers incredible performance that rivals full-fledged flagships.
In daily use, everything feels snappy. The launches are instantaneous, multitasking with dozens of tabs and apps open is effortless, and the OxygenOS 16 interface (based on Android 16) is buttery smooth with no stutters. OnePlus’s software optimizations play a big role here; the UI is clean, bloat-free, and packed with useful features like AI photo editing tools and smart battery management.
But the real magic happens in gaming. Running demanding titles like BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) on the highest settings is an absolute joy. The device maintains stable high frame rates with no noticeable lag, even during intense team fights or long sessions. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s efficient architecture and advanced cooling system (with a large vapour chamber) keep throttling to a minimum and keep temperatures manageable. However, the back does get warm after 30-45 minutes of heavy play.
CAMERA
Talking about the camera, the OnePlus 15R packs a dual setup: a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide. On paper, it’s a downgrade from the triple-camera array on the OnePlus 15, lacking a dedicated telephoto lens – a clear cost-cutting measure.

In good lighting, the primary camera takes decent shots with natural colours, good dynamic range, and sharp details. Portraits come out well with accurate edge detection, and a slightly saturated look that’s signature to OnePlus.
The ultra-wide performs adequately in broad scenes, but there’s noticeable distortion at the edges and softer details than on the primary sensor. Video recording tops out at 4K 60fps with decent stabilization, making it suitable for casual vlogs.
However, the system needs a lot of improvement in challenging conditions. Low-light photos often suffer from noise, loss of detail, and slower processing times. Night mode helps, but results are inconsistent – highlights get blown out, and shadows lack depth. There’s no optical zoom, so digital crops beyond 2x look muddy. Selfies from the 32MP front camera are average, with over-smoothing enabled by default in beauty modes.
BATTERY
Battery life is one of the standout features of the OnePlus 15R. It packs a massive 7400mAh cell, one of the largest in any smartphone today, thanks to advanced Silicon NanoStack technology.
In real-world use, the device easily lasts more than a day, even with moderate to heavy usage. That includes light gaming sessions on BGMI, endless scrolling through social feeds, streaming movies on Netflix, video calls, and navigation. On lighter days, I often ended with 40-50% left after 7-8 hours of screen-on time.
The efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, combined with the high-refresh-rate display’s adaptive tech, ensured power isn’t wasted. To top it off, OnePlus includes an 80W fast charger in the box, which is a welcome addition given that many brands have stopped including one. It juices up the massive battery from 0 to 100% in about 45-50 minutes, with 50% reached in under 20 minutes. Wireless charging is absent, but at this price, it’s forgivable.
VERDICT
At ₹44,999, the OnePlus 15R delivers flagship-level performance, a smooth display, and excellent battery life, making it a great choice for gamers and OnePlus fans who value clean software. However, its camera performance is decent but lacks the quality of rivals like the OPPO Find X9 or Vivo X300. Overall, the OnePlus 15R is a strong budget flagship for performance enthusiasts, proving that OnePlus can offer excitement without the high price tag.
