Nike Introduces Hybrid Footwear System for the Growing Hybrid Training Category

Nike has unveiled Nike Hybrid, a new performance footwear system developed specifically for athletes participating in hybrid training and racing. The new lineup comprises two purpose-built shoes: the Nike Hybrid RN, designed for everyday training, and the Nike Hybrid Fly, built for race-day performance. The company says the new platform addresses the unique demands of hybrid sports, where athletes regularly transition between running, strength exercises and dynamic movements during both training and competition.

According to Nike, conventional running shoes prioritise speed and responsiveness, while traditional training shoes focus on stability and grip, forcing hybrid athletes to compromise. The new Hybrid system has been engineered from the ground up to bridge that gap, combining technologies such as Nike Air, ZoomX foam, ReactX foam and the carbon fibre Flyplate to deliver performance across multiple movement patterns, including sled pushes, lunges, rowing, ski erg sessions and running.

The flagship Nike Hybrid Fly is aimed at competitive hybrid athletes and features ZoomX cushioning, a full-length carbon Flyplate, dual forefoot Air Zoom units and a wider platform for improved stability during strength stations. The shoe also incorporates race lockdown laces, four-zone sticky rubber traction and a lightweight engineered mesh upper designed to provide grip, structure and durability across varied surfaces.

Meanwhile, the Nike Hybrid RN has been developed for daily training. It combines ReactX foam with a forefoot Air Zoom unit to balance cushioning and responsiveness while maintaining stability during lifts. Additional features include an X-shaped upper overlay, a wide outsole and a dual-rubber traction pattern designed to support athletes through different training environments.

Nike says the footwear system was developed with input from elite hybrid athletes, including world champions Dylan Scott and Lauren Weeks, alongside everyday competitors to refine its design through real-world testing. The Nike Hybrid RN will launch in China on September 24 before becoming available globally from October 8 via Nike.com and select retailers, while the Nike Hybrid Fly is scheduled for a global launch in April 2027.
