Instagram Brings YouTube-Like Watch History to Reels

Finding that one Reel you loved but forgot to save just got easier. Instagram has officially launched a Watch History feature for Reels, letting users revisit videos they’ve already watched in the last 30 days.

Announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, this new update aims to help users easily rediscover Reels without endless scrolling or searching. The feature not only lists every Reel you’ve viewed recently but also allows sorting by date, creator, and order of viewing giving you total control over your watch experience.

    What Is Instagram Watch History?

The Watch History option functions much like YouTube’s history tab. It appears under Instagram’s ‘Your Activity’ section and offers a dedicated space where you can view and manage Reels you’ve watched recently.

Once you open the tab, you’ll find a familiar grid layout similar to your Saved posts. From there, you can scroll through all your previously watched Reels, sort them based on newest to oldest, or filter them by specific dates and creators.

    Here’s what makes it useful:

    • Sort Easily: Toggle between newest or oldest viewed Reels.
    • Filter by Date: Choose time frames like last week, last month, or set a custom range.
    • Filter by Creator: View Reels from one or multiple specific accounts.
    • Remove Reels: Don’t want something in your history? You can easily delete it from the list.

Currently, this feature is available on both Android and iOS devices but hasn’t yet rolled out for Instagram’s web version.

How to Access Instagram’s Watch History for Reels

You can access Watch History in just a few steps:

    1. Open Instagram on your Android or iOS device.
    2. Head to your profile page.
    3. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner.
    4. Select ‘Your Activity’ from the list.
    5. Scroll down and tap on ‘Watch History’.

Once inside, you’ll see your recently watched Reels all neatly organized and ready to revisit.

    Why It Matters

This new addition makes Instagram more user-friendly and content-centric, especially for those who consume Reels regularly. By integrating a feature that’s long been a YouTube staple, Instagram is refining its short-form video experience helping users spend less time searching and more time enjoying.

So, the next time you can’t find that hilarious or trending Reel you just watched, you’ll know exactly where to look right inside your Instagram Watch History.
