Meta’s social platform Threads is preparing to roll out a new feature that will let users share long-form text posts in a seamless way. Currently, the app restricts posts to 500 characters, but the new update called “text attachments” will allow creators and writers to publish extended content without splitting it across multiple posts.
What Are Text Attachments on Threads?
The upcoming feature enables users to add long blocks of text to a single post. Instead of relying on screenshots from note-taking apps, Threads users will be able to format their writing and display it inside a preview box, which can then be expanded to read in full.
This addition is designed to make Threads more creator-friendly, giving people space to share essays, book excerpts, news commentary, or opinion pieces directly within the platform.

Why It Matters
The move is seen as Meta’s attempt to compete with X (formerly Twitter), which already offers long-form publishing through its “Articles” feature. However, while X’s tool is limited to Premium subscribers, Threads’ text attachments will reportedly be available to all users for free.
Currently, Threads supports only text in these long-form attachments, while X also allows images and videos. Meta may expand capabilities in the future, as the feature is still under development.
How It Benefits Writers and Creators
For content creators, journalists, and writers, this feature could be a game-changer. It eliminates the need to direct audiences to external platforms like Substack or blogs, offering them a built-in audience within Threads itself. With additional updates like DMs, custom feeds, fediverse integration, and AI tools, Threads is steadily evolving into a more versatile platform.
