As Apple approaches the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, the company is reportedly gearing up for one of its most ambitious product years yet. According to trusted Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the tech giant is lining up a wave of next-generation devices, including its long-awaited foldable iPhone, futuristic smart glasses, and more, all aiming to reassert Apple’s dominance in a rapidly evolving consumer tech landscape.
The Foldable iPhone
Leading the charge is the highly anticipated foldable iPhone, a device that’s been the subject of speculation and behind-the-scenes development for years. Gurman reveals in his Power On newsletter that Apple may finally unveil this milestone product by 2027, aligning perfectly with the iPhone’s 20th birthday.
While Apple has remained tight-lipped, insiders suggest the foldable device could feature a display with an almost invisible crease, a nod to the company’s relentless pursuit of design perfection. This foldable device is seen as one of the “two major initiatives” Apple is focused on for its 2027 lineup. And if it lands, it would mark Apple’s first real response to rivals like Samsung and Xiaomi, who’ve already planted their flags in the foldables market.

A Curved iPhone with a Nod to the Past
Alongside the foldable, Apple is said to be working on a new curved-screen iPhone, a bold design departure slated to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone X. This device could sport a fully uninterrupted screen, free from notches or punch-holes, hinting at a seamless integration of under-display Face ID and camera tech. Apple appears to be channelling the spirit of the iPhone X, the first to eliminate the home button and evolving it into something even more futuristic.
Smart Glasses
Perhaps one of the most intriguing additions to the rumoured roadmap is Apple’s first foray into smart glasses. These aren’t expected to be mere accessories, they could be standalone wearable tech powered by a custom Apple-designed chip. The glasses may offer features similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses but with a heavy infusion of Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI framework.
According to Gurman, Apple will use its expertise in miniaturisation, spatial audio, and industrial design to deliver a premium wearable experience. The glasses could use embedded cameras to provide contextual awareness and Visual Intelligence-like features, effectively turning the world into an interactive canvas.
Beyond the Usual – AI-Driven Hardware and Robotic Interfaces
But Apple’s vision doesn’t stop at phones and wearables. Also on the table is a robotic tabletop device, essentially a smart iPad mounted on an arm capable of tilting and rotating 360 degrees. Think of it as an AI-powered assistant that can move and interact dynamically with users, blurring the lines between tablet, robot, and smart display. In addition, new versions of AirPods and Apple Watch are also expected to debut by 2027, possibly equipped with cameras to support similar smart features found in the glasses.
Apple is also reportedly investing heavily in AI chip development and plans to integrate Siri with advanced large language models. The result? A far more conversational and intuitive virtual assistant designed for the next era of human-machine interaction.
And while all eyes are on 2027, Gurman hints that even more futuristic products, like a foldable iPad that doubles as a touchscreen Mac, could arrive by 2028. One thing is clear: Apple isn’t just preparing to celebrate the iPhone’s legacy, it’s laying the groundwork for what’s next.
