Meta is rolling out a major India-focused update for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, introducing Hindi voice interaction, celebrity AI voices, festive photo effects, and UPI Lite payment trials. With these new features, Meta aims to make its wearable tech more localised and useful for Indian users offering seamless, hands-free control for daily tasks like asking questions, taking photos, or even making payments.
Meta AI Gets a Local Touch
Celebrity AI Voice
Meta AI on the Ray-Ban Meta glasses can now respond in an exclusive AI voice of Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone, speaking in Indian English. Users can interact with Meta AI either through the glasses or the Meta AI app. Meta also confirmed that support for more international celebrity voices is on the way, allowing users to personalise their AI experience.
Full Hindi Language Support
In a big step toward localisation, the glasses now offer complete interaction in Hindi. Users can switch to Hindi as their default language by navigating to Device Settings → Meta AI → Language and Voice in the Meta AI app.
This feature enables users to perform tasks like searching online, capturing images or videos, answering calls, sending texts, or controlling music all in Hindi. Meta revealed that this technology is powered by Sarvam, an Indian AI startup specialising in large language models.

Festive-Ready: Diwali Photo Restyling
To celebrate the festive season, Meta is introducing Diwali-themed photo effects for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Users can say, “Hey Meta, restyle this”, to instantly apply effects like lights, fireworks, and rangoli to their photos. The restyled images will be available in the Meta AI app for sharing.
Hands-Free UPI Lite Payments
Meta has started testing UPI Lite QR code payments on the Ray-Ban Meta glasses in India. Users will soon be able to make secure, hands-free transactions up to ₹1,000 by simply saying, “Hey Meta, scan and pay.”
The payment will be processed via their WhatsApp-linked UPI account, making it an effortless way to pay for small purchases without reaching for a phone or wallet.
More AI Tools on Meta Platforms
In related news, Meta has expanded its AI dubbing feature for Reels to include Hindi and Portuguese, alongside English and Spanish. This tool allows creators to translate, dub, and lip-sync their videos before sharing them on Instagram or Facebook, helping content reach a broader global audience.
The Takeaway
With UPI payments, Hindi support, and festive effects, Meta is doubling down on India’s fast-growing smart wearables and AI market. The Ray-Ban Meta glasses are quickly evolving from stylish eyewear into a true all-in-one assistant capable of speaking your language, celebrating your festivals, and even paying your bills.
