Sandisk Unveils WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD with PCIe Gen 5.0

Sandisk has launched the WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD, a high-performance internal storage solution leveraging PCIe Gen 5.0 technology. This SSD offers sequential read speeds up to 14,900 MB/s and write speeds up to 14,000 MB/s, with capacities reaching 8TB. Targeted at gamers, content creators, and AI specialists, it seeks to address the needs of modern high-performance computing.

The WD_BLACK SN8100 delivers a substantial performance boost, doubling the read speeds of Sandisk’s previous PCIe Gen 4.0 SSDs. It achieves over 2,300,000 IOPS for random performance on 2TB and 4TB models, alongside a 2,400TBW endurance rating for the 4TB variant. Additionally, it is 100% more power-efficient than its Gen 4.0 predecessor, operating at an average of 7W or less, which supports optimal performance with minimal thermal overhead.

The SSD incorporates Sandisk’s BiCS8 TLC 3D CBA NAND technology, which ensures both reliability and efficiency. For users seeking improved cooling, there is an optional version with a low-profile heatsink made of anodized aluminum, eliminating the need for extra power sources or fans. Additionally, this model features customizable RGB LEDs, allowing it to aesthetically integrate into various PC builds.

“The WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD with PCIe Gen 5.0 delivers peak storage performance for the most discerning users,” said Eric Spanneut, vice president of devices at Sandisk. Industry leaders from AMD and Intel have also praised the SSD’s capabilities, noting its role in advancing PC and workstation performance for gaming, content creation, and professional workflows.

We recently reviewed another PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD, the Samsung 9100 Pro, which also targets high-performance users. The WD_BLACK SN8100 stands out with its power efficiency and optional heatsink, catering to those prioritizing thermal management and customization.

The WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD is available now through major IT resellers and e-commerce platforms in 1TB (₹17,499), 2TB, and 4TB capacities. The heatsink variant is priced at ₹18,999 for 1TB, with 2TB and 4TB options also available. An 8TB model, both with and without heatsink, is expected later this year.
