Apple could feature a cheaper and lighter version of its Vision Pro headset as soon as later this year. The company has been developing an “Air” version of the mixed reality headset with a potential launch window between late 2025 and the first half of 2026. The new headset’s nature whether it will be a standalone unit or require tethering to a Mac is still uncertain.
Internally, Apple reportedly considers the current Vision Pro too heavy for extended wear, and its high price has slowed adoption. The new device is expected to address both of these concerns, offering improved comfort and a more accessible price point.

Apple is said to be working on two new mixed reality headsets: a direct replacement for the Vision Pro, and a lighter, more consumer-friendly model. Though limited information is available about the lighter version, it is expected to include fewer hardware components to reduce both weight and cost. This could mean fewer camera sensors, a lower-resolution display, a reduced field of view, and the removal of the EyeSight display, the external screen that shows the user’s eyes. Reports also suggest that this lighter model might not function independently and could require a connection to an iPhone or Mac.
In the meantime, the next-generation Vision Pro is expected to focus on enterprise applications, with improvements in latency performance. The second-generation headset will likely offer direct Mac connectivity and ultra-low latency capabilities. This feature could prove vital in fields such as surgery, where visualizing medical images in real time is critical, or in high-fidelity flight simulators.
