OpenAI is preparing a major update for ChatGPT, promising a more natural, expressive, and human-like AI experience. “If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it,” Altman said.

OpenAI to Introduce Age Verification and Mature Content Access
Perhaps the most significant change comes in December, when OpenAI plans to roll out an age verification system. Verified adult users will gain access to mature content, including what Altman described as “erotica.”
The move aligns with OpenAI’s new principle to “treat adult users like adults.”
Standard accounts, however, will remain restricted from accessing such content. The company says this update aims to balance freedom and safety, allowing adults more control while continuing to protect younger or vulnerable users.
Why Is OpenAI Relaxing Restrictions?
When ChatGPT first launched, OpenAI intentionally made it “pretty restrictive” to avoid worsening mental health challenges or risky conversations involving self-harm.
