Google Play Store now allows you to update multiple apps simultaneously

Google Play Store has rolled out a new feature that allows users to install and update multiple Android apps simultaneously. Until now, the Play Store processed app installations and updates sequentially, requiring users to wait for one app to finish before the next could begin. The new update now enables up to three apps to be downloaded, installed, or updated at the same time.

The development marks a shift from Google’s earlier experimentation with parallel app downloads, which dates back to 2019 and saw further testing in March of the previous year. The ability to install multiple apps concurrently is particularly beneficial when restoring from a backup or setting up a new device. While Google has yet to officially announce a launch timeline or specify which devices have received this feature, the functionality is reportedly available on a wide range of devices, suggesting it is a server-side update from Google.

Earlier in April, Google had introduced the capability to download two apps simultaneously, though this was limited to new app installations and did not extend to app updates. Now, with the broader implementation of simultaneous downloads and updates, Google is aligning more closely with what other platforms offer. For instance, Apple has long supported the installation of up to three iOS apps at once, and Android app stores from manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO already allow for concurrent downloads.

Google has also updated its minimum quality standards for Android apps. Starting August 31, apps that do not meet these new requirements will be barred from the Play Store, with non-compliant apps facing removal from the platform. Additionally, Google is reportedly working on a feature called ‘App Auto Open,’ which will automatically launch an app immediately after installation.

According to Android Authority, recent updates to the Google Play Store contain code suggesting that this feature will, by default, open the app as soon as the installation is complete. These updates reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and maintain high standards for apps on the Play Store, positioning Android as a more efficient and user-friendly platform.
