Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote introduced a massive software shift for iPhones, jumping from iOS 18 straight to iOS 26, skipping iOS 19 through 25. The new update includes usability improvements and a major design overhaul called Liquid Glass, a sleek, modern aesthetic reminiscent of Windows Vista, but more refined and Apple-like.But let’s answer the most important question: Will your iPhone support iOS 26?
These iPhones Will NOT Get iOS 26
If you’re using a device launched in 2018, it may be time to upgrade. Apple is dropping support for the following models:
- iPhone XR
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
These phones will not be eligible for iOS 26 when it rolls out this fall. iPhones 8 and X were already dropped in 2023.
iPhones That WILL Support iOS 26
If you own an iPhone launched in 2019 or later, you’re in the clear. Apple has officially confirmed that the following iPhones are compatible with iOS 26:
- iPhone SE (2nd gen or later)
- iPhone 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 / 12 mini / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 / 13 mini / 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15 / 15 Plus / 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e / 16 / 16 Plus / 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max
Tip: If your iPhone was released in or after 2019, it’s safe to say iOS 26 will work on it.

Using an Older iPhone? Here’s What You’re Missing
If your iPhone is no longer eligible for iOS 26:
- You’ll miss critical security updates, making your phone vulnerable.
- Some apps may stop working if they require newer iOS versions.
- You won’t experience new features or design enhancements in iOS 26.
Continuing with an unsupported iPhone is possible, but you’ll be using outdated tech that may limit performance and app compatibility.
When Will iOS 26 Release?
Apple typically rolls out major iOS updates in mid-September, just ahead of its iPhone launch events. Last year, iOS 18 launched on September 16. Expect iOS 26 to release in a similar time frame after the iPhone 17 event, which is projected for early September 2025.
