iPhone 17 Could Be Apple’s Most Expensive iPhone Yet

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series, set to launch in September, could see a price increase compared to the iPhone 16 series. The expected price hike is reportedly tied to the inclusion of new designs and additional functionalities. These upgrades are being cited as the main reasons behind the anticipated rise in cost.

Initially, trade tensions between the United States and China were thought to be a potential cause for the price changes. However, Apple has not cited tariff-related concerns over imports from China as a reason for its pricing policy.

According to reports, Apple plans to raise prices in a manner that is linked to design and feature improvements, rather than geopolitical factors or trade-related developments.

Apple Faces $900 Million Loss from Tariffs but Keeps iPhone Prices Unaffected

Despite the iPhone maker likely incurring an estimated USD 900 million loss in the third quarter due to higher tariffs, Apple has not indicated that the ongoing US-China trade tensions will impact its product pricing. 

In response to increasing tariff pressures, Apple has been relocating more iPhone manufacturing from China to India, aiming to avoid potential cost surges.

US-China Tariff Truce and Exemptions Beneficial to Tech Industry

In a recent development, the United States and China agreed on a 90-day pause on additional tariffs on each other’s products. This temporary truce opens a window for further negotiations.

Additionally, the Trump administration has introduced several tariff exemptions beneficial to the tech sector. These exemptions cover a range of products, including smartphones, laptops, hard drives, and semiconductor fabrication equipment. However, a previous 20% tariff on certain Chinese imports remains in effect.

Apple’s Future Plans: Ultra-Skinny iPhone and Major 2027 Innovation

Meanwhile, multiple reports reveal that Apple is preparing to unveil an ultra-skinny iPhone model later this year.

Looking further ahead, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on major innovations for 2027. The tech giant is planning to launch a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” with no noticeable cutouts to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.
