LinkedIn Rolls Out New AI People Search: Find Professionals Using Natural Language

LinkedIn has introduced a powerful AI-driven people search feature for Premium subscribers, allowing users to find professionals using simple, conversational phrases instead of exact job titles or keywords. The update marks a major shift in how users discover talent, experts, and business connections on the platform.

What Is LinkedIn’s New AI People Search?

The new AI feature lets users type natural-language queries such as “someone who has scaled a startup” or “a digital marketing expert”. Instead of relying on job titles or company names, LinkedIn’s search engine now interprets user intent and delivers relevant profile matches.

This feature leverages LinkedIn’s massive dataset of user profiles including skills, experience, and career history combined with AI models that understand context and meaning.

    How LinkedIn’s AI Search Works

LinkedIn says the tool is designed to move beyond keyword-based searches. The AI analyses the query, identifies what the user means, and then ranks profiles that best match that intent.

This approach solves a long-existing problem: traditional search required precise inputs. If users didn’t know the exact job title, certification, or department name, their results were often incomplete. With AI-powered intent detection, users can now discover professionals even if their profile wording doesn’t match the query exactly.

    Why This Feature Matters

The traditional LinkedIn search system often limited discovery. Users had to tweak keywords, add filters, or guess titles to find the right people. This created barriers when:

    • You didn’t know the exact job title
    • The person you’re looking for uses non-standard titles
    • You needed broad expertise but didn’t know how to phrase it

AI-based search removes these barriers by interpreting descriptions and delivering more accurate, contextual results.

Who Can Use LinkedIn’s AI Search?

For now, LinkedIn’s AI people search is exclusive to Premium subscribers in the United States. The company plans to expand access to more regions and user tiers, although it has not revealed a specific timeline.
