Nothing’s New ‘B’ Series Is Official, But Don’t Expect It To Replace The Phone (4a)

Nothing has officially confirmed that a new ‘B’ series of smartphones is on the way. While the company has stopped short of revealing the first device, speculation is already rife that the lineup could debut with a Nothing Phone (4b), positioned below the Phone (4a) in the brand’s portfolio.

The clarification came from Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis, who took to X to explain the rationale behind the new naming convention. According to him, the letter “b” doesn’t stand for anything in particular. Instead, it follows the company’s established naming structure, where numbers represent generations and letters denote different product segments.

Nothing says the new B Series will expand into a fresh category while maintaining a clear hierarchy within its smartphone range. The company’s A Series, which includes devices such as the Phone (3a) and Phone (4a), remains its most premium offering below the flagship Phones that carry no letter designation.

Evangelidis explained that introducing the B Series allows Nothing to avoid piling on suffixes while keeping its expanding portfolio easier to understand. He also reiterated that the A Series has been the company’s best-selling lineup, delivering Nothing’s signature design language while focusing on features that matter most to users.

Although no specifications or launch timelines have been revealed, the existence of a new segment suggests that Nothing could be eyeing a more affordable price bracket. Industry watchers are already speculating that a Phone (4b) could serve as an entry point into the Nothing ecosystem, sitting below the Phone (4a).

For now, Nothing has only confirmed the naming strategy. The smartphone itself remains under wraps, but a new member of the family is clearly on the horizon.
