Samsung announced today that the new Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone will be powered by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, a next-generation glass ceramic technology that provides enhanced durability in an ultra-thin, premium design. Inspired by a shared goal to push the boundaries of mobile engineering, Samsung and Corning collaborated to deliver a flagship Galaxy S series experience that combines both aesthetic appeal and rugged strength.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 takes the legendary durability that Corning Gorilla Glass is known for to the next level. Merging Corning’s glass innovation with Samsung’s proprietary device processing and reinforcement technologies, the Galaxy S25 Edge achieves a slim yet durable profile with improved scratch and crack resistance.
“Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance as our slimmest Galaxy S series device yet,” said Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team of Mobile eXperience Business (MX) at Samsung Electronics. “To support this breakthrough design, it was essential to develop a display material that was both exceptionally thin and reliably strong — a challenge that brought Corning and Samsung together, united by a shared vision for purposeful engineering and user-centric innovation. That vision is embedded in every detail of Galaxy S25 Edge.”
Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 features crystals embedded in the glass matrix, enhancing the toughness and crack deflection capabilities of the display. The precise interaction between the glass and crystalline structures is engineered for increased damage resistance while maintaining high optical transparency, A key demand for premium smartphone displays. Additionally, Corning’s advanced ion-exchange strengthening process fortifies the glass ceramic, improving the retained strength of the Galaxy S25 Edge’s display cover.
“With Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, we’ve achieved a remarkable combination of thinness and strength, giving consumers the best of both worlds — exceptional durability in a modern, sleek and premium design,” said Andrew Beck, Vice President and General Manager, Corning Gorilla Glass. “The craftsmanship of Galaxy S25 Edge with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 underscores Corning and Samsung’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of global smartphone consumers.”
