Sonos has announced Sonos 27, the newest version of its audio operating system. It brings AI voice control, a new way to move sound between speakers, a redesigned app, two new flagship products, and a new speaker launch for India.
Sonos 27 brings two AI tools: Sonos Voice, its own assistant for music and mood, and Sonos MCP, which lets outside AI assistants connect to a Sonos system, starting with ChatGPT. Users can now ask ChatGPT to play music on Sonos without leaving the conversation. OpenAI’s Atty Eleti said the feature helps people stay in the moment while listening.
Sonos also previewed Sonos Custom Agents, letting users build their own AI agents, each with its own model, persona, and voice. Chief Innovation Officer Nick Millington said the goal is to let people pick or create the right agent for each job.

Sonos Fabric is a system-level feature that lets Sonos products sense each other and adjust automatically. It powers two new features: Headphone linking connects the Sonos Ace Ultra to a user’s system, letting them push audio to nearby speakers or pull it back to their headphones, launching in Early Access; and Portable surrounds uses high-frequency sound to detect a speaker’s location, so a compatible portable speaker turns into a rear surround the moment it’s moved into position near a home theatre setup.
India gets a new product alongside the update: Sonos Play, the brand’s most versatile speaker yet.
Play groups over WiFi across rooms, or pairs for stereo with a charging base. It’s built for portability, with a removable utility loop, 24-hour battery, IP67 waterproofing, and a built-in power bank for your phone. The battery is replaceable, built for a longer product life, and the speaker works with voice assistants, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, and the Sonos app.
Sonos also announced two global products, with India dates to follow. Beam Ultra is a mid-size soundbar with true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos in a smaller form factor. Sonos Ace Ultra expands the headphone lineup, built for deeper system integration, including headphone linking in Early Access.
