Sonos has introduced two new speakers, namely the Sonos Play and the Sonos Era 100 SL, as part of a broader effort to strengthen and simplify its connected audio ecosystem. The announcement aims to further enhance the company’s focus on multi-room listening and modular audio systems.
The Sonos Play is positioned as the company’s most versatile speaker to date. Designed for both home use and portable listening, it connects over Wi-Fi to integrate with existing Sonos setups while also supporting Bluetooth for use outside the home. Users can group it with other compatible speakers across rooms or pair two units for stereo playback.

The speaker is built with portability in mind. It features a removable utility loop, a durable IP67-rated waterproof body, and up to 24 hours of battery life. Sonos has also included a built-in power bank that allows the speaker to charge a smartphone when on the move. Automatic Trueplay tuning adjusts the sound profile dynamically depending on the environment, aiming to maintain consistent audio quality whether indoors or outdoors.
Another new feature allows multiple Sonos speakers to be synchronised directly from a Bluetooth connection. By connecting a phone to a Sonos Play and holding the Play/Pause button on additional compatible speakers, users can create a small synchronised setup even when away from Wi-Fi.

Alongside it, the Sonos Era 100 SL is designed as a simpler entry point into the Sonos ecosystem. The speaker removes built-in microphones, making it a mic-free alternative for users who prefer greater privacy while still delivering the room-filling sound associated with the brand. Despite the streamlined design, it retains the ability to expand into a broader Sonos system through stereo pairing, multi-room setups, or integration into a home theatre configuration.
