Google is set to roll out agentic artificial intelligence (AI) features across its Search, Chrome, and Gemini platforms. These upgrades aim to deliver more personalized search results and user experiences, marking a strategic move to stay ahead of the growing competition from AI rivals such as ChatGPT.
The announcement was made during Sundar Pichai’s keynote speech at the Google I/O Developer’s Conference, which took place on Tuesday in the United States.
What Is Agentic AI?
In December of last year, Google introduced a prototype known as Project Mariner. This early research initiative aimed to develop AI agents capable of interacting with the web to perform tasks on behalf of users.
“We’re bringing Project Mariner’s computer use capabilities to developers via the Gemini API. Trusted testers like Automation Anywhere and UiPath are already starting to build with it, and it will be available more broadly this summer,” said Pichai.
Enhanced Personalization with Gemini
With user consent, Gemini will soon leverage data from various Google apps such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar to offer context-aware suggestions and responses. This means Gemini can deliver answers and recommendations that are deeply relevant to the user’s ongoing activity and communication style.
“It will match your typical greeting and capture your tone, style, and even favourite word choices, all to generate a reply that’s more relevant and sounds authentically like you. Personalised Smart Replies will be available for subscribers later this year,” Pichai added.
AI-Powered Search and Chrome Features
In its largest markets the US and India Google is seeing over 10% growth in queries that include AI-written Overviews, showing the strong impact of these new AI capabilities. Additionally, Google is introducing a new end-to-end AI Mode in Search, which will support longer, more complex queries, enabling users to ask more sophisticated questions and receive comprehensive results.
AI for Developers and Enterprises
Developers will soon have broader access to Gemini’s agentic features via the Gemini API. With enterprise partners like Automation Anywhere and UiPath already on board, businesses can start integrating powerful AI automation into their workflows.
Conclusion: The Future of AI at Google
Pichai emphasized the transformative power of AI and its potential to drive innovation across industries.
“The opportunity with AI is truly as big as it gets. And it will be up to this wave of developers, technology builders, and problem solvers to make sure its benefits reach as many people as possible,” Pichai said.
With these upcoming launches, Google is doubling down on personalized, agentic AI to redefine how users interact with technology whether it’s through smarter searches, more intuitive replies, or AI-driven web automation. As the AI landscape evolves rapidly, Google’s latest moves signal a major leap forward in user-centric digital experiences.
