WhatsApp has rolled out a new Message Translations feature designed to make conversations more seamless across different languages. With this update, users can now translate messages in real time, helping break down language barriers in one-on-one chats, group conversations, and even channels.
How WhatsApp Message Translations Work
Available on both Android and iOS, the feature allows users to translate messages with just a long press. Once activated, a Translate option appears, letting users choose the preferred language. For easier access, users can also download specific language packs to use offline for future translations.
On Android, the feature currently supports six widely spoken languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. WhatsApp has confirmed that more languages will be added soon, expanding the list to over 19 supported languages globally.
Automatic Chat Translations
One standout addition is the ability to enable automatic translations for an entire chat thread. Once turned on, all future incoming messages are translated instantly, without requiring manual action. Importantly, WhatsApp highlights that this translation process is handled on-device, ensuring user privacy and security, with no third-party or even WhatsApp itself able to read the chat content.
