WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new artificial intelligence-powered feature designed to help users catch up on their conversations faster and more efficiently. Spotted by WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature named Quick Recap will leverage Meta AI to generate concise summaries of unread messages across multiple chats.
This builds on WhatsApp’s earlier “Message Summaries” feature, but takes it a step further by allowing users to summarize up to five chats at once, instead of being limited to a single conversation.
How WhatsApp Quick Recap Will Work
The Quick Recap tool is designed to streamline chat navigation by providing an overview of what’s been discussed in selected conversations. Here’s how it will work:
- Users can select up to five chats either group or individual.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Choose “Quick Recap” to generate an AI summary.
This AI-driven summary will allow users to skip scrolling through long message threads and get a clear gist of conversations, saving time and effort.
Privacy Remains a Priority
WhatsApp emphasizes that privacy will not be compromised. The Quick Recap feature will rely on Meta Private Processing (MPP) technology, which uses end-to-end encryption and isolated computation to ensure that:
- Raw data never leaves the device in readable form.
- Neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access the original messages or summaries.
Chats marked under Advanced Chat Privacy settings will not be eligible for Quick Recap, respecting the preferences of users who opt out of AI features.

Availability and Rollout Timeline
The Quick Recap feature was found in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.12, but it is still under development. Even beta users cannot access the feature yet. It will be rolled out in stages:
- Future beta updates for Android users.
- Stable public release post testing.
- No confirmation yet on availability for WhatsApp iOS users.
Final Thoughts
With the introduction of Quick Recap, WhatsApp continues to enhance its user experience through AI while maintaining its commitment to privacy. This feature will especially benefit users who handle high message volumes or are part of multiple active group chats.
