Google has announced the launch of its Gemini app in India, an advanced AI conversational chatbot developed by the tech giant. CEO Sundar Pichai revealed this development on Tuesday. Initially launched in the US in February, the Gemini app leverages Google’s Large Language Models (LLMs) to offer users an enhanced AI experience. Now, it supports English and nine Indian languages, with Gemini Advanced also receiving these updates.

In a detailed blog post, Google confirmed the availability of the Gemini app on the Google Play Store in India, supporting a total of 10 languages: English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Users can access the AI chatbot by downloading the Gemini app or opting in via Google Assistant.

Announced by Sundar Pichai through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the expansion includes the advanced version of Gemini, available under the Google One subscription. Gemini Advanced, powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro, extends its capabilities to the same ten languages supported by the app. Gemini Advanced now allows users to upload extensive documents, up to 1,500 pages, or 100 emails for summarization by the AI chatbot. It also offers insightful analyses based on the content.

Additionally, Google states that Gemini Advanced can “clean, explore, analyze, and visualize your data” from spreadsheets, whether they are in Google Sheets, CSVs, or Excel formats. Importantly, Google assures that these files remain private and are not used to train AI models. While Android users in India can now access the Gemini app via the Google Play Store, iOS users will need to use the Google app for the same experience.

    Gemini in Google Messages

Google also announced the integration of Gemini within the Google Messages app in India. This feature, previously available to users outside India, now enables Indian users to engage in AI-driven conversations within the Messages app. The rollout is currently limited to select devices, specifically those with an Android handset boasting 6GB of RAM or more.
